I'd like to see all the forum guys, staff included, try on those heels! :-D
I did try them on but each time I took a step the heel fell out of place.
Should be modified with a sharper nail puncturing the heel.
That sounds extremely painful, Dennis! But maybe Panais (since those are his heels) can give you a foot rub with some pistachio foot cream!
Today, shod with the same high heels as yesterday, I discovered that my footwear is very good for accompanying the beat of a particularly rhythmic song - tap tap tap tap tap tap. Fortunately, everyone else in the computer room was wearing headphones and could not hear the clacking from my corner :-)
PS: Just discovered a garden lizard scuttling around the computer room...again!

I found a proper car for you.
Panais,
Are you saying that Athene is Heal on Wheels?
just a play with words...hehehe
*stuffs Panais and Dennis into car and rumbles through the forum on screeching tires while a dense cloud of smoke trails behind* Yays! :-D
Athene,
Can I select who I want to be stuffed in the car with?
Might turn out to be an enjoyable trip!

Yes, of course, Dennis. *slams on brakes brutally, engine coughs and splutters* But I drive. So, who would you like to be stuffed into the car with? :-)
Not me thanks,im too young......
*hands you your zebra stripes* You left these in the car :-D
Emmm.... i feel little cold i dont know why though.......
Today I was cleaning my old case, and wash it. So I'll post pictures to see it.
This morning, I ended up buying a new pair of high heels which are even higher than the ones I'm wearing...
You could borrow some of Lady Gaga's shoes, for your next step!
Lol!!! What are high heels for me are flat shoes for other people...seriously :-) The highest heel I'm willing to wear is 7.5 centimetres*. Anything above that is just asking for a twisted ankle, especially if you have to walk across cobbles and run for the bus nearly every day ;-D
*2.953 inches...according to this converter ;-)

Came across the same lizard in the computer room today...another girl and I tried to catch the little critter, but it was too fast. It is currently hiding between the floor and the wall, with only the tip of its head poking out. I am now equipped with a big plastic cup (borrowed from the students' bar just around the corner) in case it races around the room again - the poor thing must be very hungry (shut up in the room for two days and one night), and someone might stamp on it :-(

Also is good think to have a lizard or geko around.
No mosquitoes or flies.
I'm trying to rescue it in order to prevent it from being hurt...That's the whole point ;-) It's scared and hungry at the moment, I think. It is venturing out of its hiding place slowly...Yes! It's almost out!
Maybe this gentleman could help you?
Mbravo!!
Yaaaaaaaaays! Rescue mission successful! The lizard nipped out, and I trapped it with the cup...Then I and another girl (who opened the doors for me) put it out in the bushes. *beams*

Carl had a driving tutor who now is in charge of walking Gracie.
Hope the tutor doesn't walk in front of Kim's house.

Today I picked up my volunteer appreciation award (I volunteer regularly at a library, and each month the library board members pick a volunteer for the volunteer appreciation award) .
And always remember.
Good girls go to heaven.
Bad girls go everywhere!!
Today I have buy one Adidas Climaproof tracksuits. Found them chep, for a 45 Euros.
Today I broke in my new 3-inch high heels. Made an awfully loud racket on some wooden stairs, and I had to walk very daintily across a cobbled patch of yard ;-)
Well, well my magic power still works!!
I broke my 4" heels today!
Had to go barefoot over hot paved roads. Finally got home and had blisters on both knee's. heheehehe
Have a great week-end all you geeks!
I am a geek so no offense to anyone..

Hi Dennis, how about breaking in our new high heels together? At least we can clutch at each other for support whenever one of us stumbles :-D
Where do you want to meet so we can stumble home?
Or I can let you have my good shoe so you can get home safely while I fight off
the Wolves!
I guess we'll have to meet away from home so we can stumble home :-D If you have to fight off anything or anyone, just throw your heels at them
to them.
Would rather nip at their heals just to get there attention..
Just as long as you don't nip at my heels *hides shoes* :-)
You probably have your slippers on by now so you are safe.
Have pleasant dreams while I am going to chase down Hopalong and Topper.
I haven't bothered them all week so I am going through withdrawls.
Lol, you're right, I'm wearing nice comfy flat slippers now and will be heading off to nest and rest soon ;-D
Good night, all! :-)
Good night, all! :-)

Thanks, Bill
Julian: Lol! My slippers are shockingly mundane and boring - not interesting and furry like the ones in that thread.

In my neck of the wood it's showing 55F on my gadget for the local temps, I still keep it showing Fahrenheit rather than Celsius, I'm old fashioned.

It's a nice autumn day today, 15C. Pleasantly chilly :-)
Today my car has screwed up...
What happened to your car?
Sounds like a nice day to me.
Yes - perfect for airing out a variety of summer paraphernalia before it is stored away for the autumn & winter months :-) Can't put anything on my veranda sill, though - in case a magpie (we've got plenty of them) lands on the roof and messes up the sill :-/
My front tires can't turn left. Something from the front is not good.
Oh dear. Hope you (or the garage) can get the problem sorted out soon! In the meantime, you can borrow this car ;-)

My fearless uneducated guess is one or both of your tie-rods has failed...unfortunately, that could be a pricey repair, unless you are friendly with a mechanic. Sorry to hear it!
Lol Dennis !
Thanks giuys,I get it to a mechanic sooner as I can,so I'll see what would be..

Hubby has just had his car go through it's MOT this week, he had a couple of new tyres on the front last month so they were OK but this year the break pipes had to be changed and a suspension socket put back in place.
He's still waiting for a replacement fitting from the manufacturers so that the repair the AA man did on the gear lever can be fixed properly, but at least that's not part of the test so didn't matter, it's held up by wire and plastic ties at present.

Today I am joining a program of Ph.D. coursework in the university . Out of total six weeks, it will continue one week only. The classes will be started from 10 AM and continue upto 5 PM. So I will not be able to be online in the daytime this week
Does this mean you shall be known as Dr. Archie if the coursework goes well? Good luck to you in class!

Good luck Archie
Lol, regards to you from a fellow-PhD-er (but in a different subject), Archie ;-) I'm currently book-hunting for my dissertation :-D Self-discipline and stamina are unavoidable ;-)
Good luck Archie!
Interesting your comment on self-discipline.....if I'd only had that when I was still of school age, things would have turned out much differently for me than they did....instead, I lived in a bottle for 20 years.

The Stranger
A few years after I was born, my Dad met a stranger who was new to our small town. From the beginning, Dad was fascinated with this enchanting newcomer and soon invited him to live with our family. The stranger was quickly accepted and was around from then on.
As I grew up, I never questioned his place in my family. In my young mind, he had a special niche. My parents were complementary instructors: Mom taught me good from evil, and Dad taught me to obey.
But the stranger... he was our storyteller. He would keep us
spellbound for hours on end with adventures, mysteries and comedies.
If I wanted to know anything about politics, history or science, he always knew the answers
about the past, understood the present and even seemed able to predict the future! He took my family to the first major league ball game. He made me laugh, and he made me cry. The stranger never stopped talking, but Dad didn't seem to mind.
Sometimes, Mom would get up quietly while the rest of us were shushing each other to listen to what he had to say, and she would go to the kitchen for peace and quiet. (I wonder now, if she ever prayed for the stranger to leave.)
Dad ruled our household with certain moral convictions, but the stranger never felt obligated to
honor them. Profanity, for example, was not allowed in our home - not from us, our friends or
any visitors. Our long time visitor, however, got away with four-letter words that burned my ears and made my dad squirm and my mother blush.
My Dad didn't permit the liberal use of alcohol but the stranger encouraged us to try it on a regular basis. He made cigarettes look cool, cigars manly, and pipes distinguished. He talked freely (much
too freely!) about sex. His comments were sometimes blatant, sometimes suggestive, and generally embarrassing..
I now know that my early concepts about relationships were influenced strongly by the stranger. Time after time, he opposed the values of my parents, yet he was seldom rebuked... And NEVER asked to leave.
More than fifty years have passed since the stranger moved in with our family. He has blended right in and is not nearly as fascinating as he was at first. Still, if you could walk into my parents' den today, you would still find him sitting over in his corner, waiting for someone to listen to him talk and watch him draw his pictures.
His name?....
We just call him 'TV.'
(Note: This should be required reading for every household!)
He has a wife now....we call her 'Computer.'
Their first child is "Cell Phone".

As you all know.. October is Breast Cancer awareness month..
" Mammogram Court " article .
While conducting some business at the Court House, I overheard a lady, who had been arrested for assaulting a Mammogram Technician, say, "Your Honor, Im guilty but . . . there were extenuating circumstances."
The female judge said, sarcastically, "I'd certainly like to hear those extenuating circumstances. I did, too, so, I listened as the lady told her story.
"Your Honor, I had a mammogram appointment, which I actually kept. I was met by this perky little clipboard carrier smiling from ear to ear and she tilted her head to one side and crooned, "Hi! I'm Belinda! All I need you to do is step into this room right here, strip to the waist, then slip on this gown. Everything clear?"
I'm thinking, "Belinda, try decaf. This ain't rocket science." Belinda then skipped away to prepare the chamber of horrors.
With the right side finished, Belinda flipped me (literally) to the left and said, "Hmmmmm. Can you stand on your tippy toes and lean in a tad so we can get everything?" Fine, I answered.
I was freezing, bruised, and out of air, so why not use the remaining circulation in my legs and neck to finish me off? My body was in a holding pattern that defied gravity (with my other breast wedged between those two 4 inch pieces of square glass) when I heard and felt a zap!
Complete darkness, the power was off!
Belinda said, "Uh-oh, maintenance is working, bet they hit a snag" Then she headed for the door.
"Excuse me! You're not leaving me in this vise alone are you?" I shouted.
Belinda kept going and said, "Oh, you fussy puppy. . . the door's wide open so you'll have the emergency hall lights. I'll be right back."
Before I could shout NOOOO! She disappeared. And that's exactly how Bubba and Earl, "maintenance men Extraordinaire" found me . . half-naked with part of me dangling from the Jaws of Life and the other part smashed between glass.
After exchanging a polite Hi, how's it going type greeting, Bubba (or possibly Earl) asked, to my utter disbelief, if I knew the power was off.
Trying to disguise my hysteria, I replied with as much calmness as possible, "Uh, yes, I did but thanks anyway."
"Ok, you take care now," Bubba replied and waved good-bye as though I'd been standing in the line at the grocery store.
Two hours later, Belinda breezes in wearing a sheepish grin. Making no attempt to suppress her amusement, she said, "Oh I am sooo sorry! The power came back on and I totally forgot about you! And silly me, I went to lunch. Are we upset?"
And that, Your Honor, is exactly how her head ended up between the clamps . . "
The judge could hardly contain her laughter as she said "Case Dismissed!".

Came across a large ladybug in dire straits, lying on its back with twitching legs and one wing sticking out of its wing-case. After I carefully flipped it back onto its stomach, it proceeded to wander around the sill in a rather drunken manner, stopping every now and then to retract its trapped wing - without success. My hopes concerning its survival were rather low.
Fifteen minutes later, when I returned to my room, I found it sitting happily on the wall, with that wing finally fully retracted. Right on cue, it spread open its wing-cases and zoomed out of the window to the neighbour's tree. A determined little creature!

First wall lizards, then ladybugs...I wonder what will be next ;-)) I don't like to see the little critters suffer or experience discomfort, and helping them is usually such a straightforward matter. Our neighbour, by the way, is sure he saw a fox recently. Lots of animals are losing their habitat thanks to the building lobby, and they're wandering into human settlements. I've noticed that if a new house sprouts up, many birds will lose their lives flying against the glass - it can take a good year or two until they have adjusted their geography.
I am sorry to say that the rubbish bins at uni are not changed/cleaned out regularly. They do not even have a bin liner. The result: CLOUDS of drosophila flies sitting in the bins and feasting on the garbage. Nudge a bin with your foot, and a whole swarm of flies rises in protest. Today, I was forced to eat my lunch in another room after five or six flies kept circling my sandwich...

At least the bugs occur naturally in outdoor surroundings ;-D But indoors, they're breeding and breeding clandestinely in the garbage bins. The uni microwave, too, is filthy, coated with crumbs and a kind of crust which I dare not describe further...
And the uni computers have not been updated for six months, I think. The Firefox version installed on them is 3.6, for example...Sigh.

Good Morning Everyone (well the U.S. people it is morning)
Good morning! I have to ask.....username is 96accord, but isn't that a WRX in your avatar?
I use to own a '96 Accord LX that was given to me back in 2003 as a graduation gift from my grandparents. I made that username everywhere and kept it.
I purchased my 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX in May 2007 and I didn't want to change my username everywhere so I kept that username and continued to use it (I only have one other username on another forum and it's bootyluvr lol)
That is my WRX in the avatar She's definitely not stock!
I should create a thread with my modifications and pictures!

I thought there was a vehicle/car thread on here at some point but it might have been a while ago.. Hmmm  I will research that!
There is a car thread.......somewhere....here in the Chill section!
Was it this one - Show us your ride.
Yeah I was going through my Subscribed threads!
Thanks John.
That was the one I was thinking of.
Might as well resurrect the old one.

That is a beauty! I wouldn't want to buy the gasoline for it nowadays though.
Have all the car owners in this thread got a bicycle as well? :-)
Why would anhybody need a bicycle when they have a car
Well, it's admittedly easier to keep fit if you've got a bike...especially when you've got to cycle uphill, then you've got to get those pedals going :-D The Swiss adore bikes ;-)) They are even designed in such a manner that people have enough place to fasten baskets to the carrier :-D
Oh...and when there's a big construction site blocking the whole road, you can often slink past on your bike while cars have to give a turn and search for another route...
And a bike is considered more environmental-friendly ;-)

It may be more environmentally friendly but no fun when trying to run tree huggers overs.

Thanks to the huge construction site right outside the house, my table and windows are vibrating, and I can feel these vibrations travelling up my chair and arms...
Well, that sucks.
Lol! Yes, it does...and the drilling machine is right outside our house, so my table has started vibrating even harder...Fortunately there'll be peace over the weekend...but even that's not a given, because the workers are behind their work, so they pop up on the occasional Saturday as well...

Nah, that would only be postponing the evil moment...and they're just doing their job :-))
Today I was working at my old Delux case. You can see the result here in my thread.

I thought you already had a birthday cake, Dennis! Not nice :-/
If it is eatable it's gone.
I will eat anything just to keep my figure up!

Grats on the build! Did it make your blood run hot, your skin sweaty, did you feel the power, the absolute power of being in control of your computer?! If not then building them isn't for you.
Incidently, I made this today.

My luck made it out. It's all back normal
How do you like the cabling? I had to break some clickies to get the Graphic Card in because of one single cable. But who cares, I don't use those clickies, but screws.
Cabling is messy and annoying and takes a huge effort to get invisible. I've done a good job in my case, but it's still not perfect the way I'd like. This is mostly because my system doesn't have hole in all the right places for the cables that I have.

welcome back john, i trust your trip wasn't stopped short this time.
today my three year old son is recovering from a minor op that descended his left testicle, the poor little bugger,
it (the testicle) is now stiched to his sack to hold it down temporarily.
and i wince every time i change his nappy/diaper as one half of his sack is very dark blue bruised.
he is feeling slightly better now as the pain killers are working but he cries every time he coughs.

Hi guys, do you still remember me?
Sorry for my absense. I was very busy this month due to work, night shifts, family issues, etc. I had an accident on 24th OCt at night when I was coming back from home. My left leg and shoulder were hurt but my phone screen was completely damaged so I had no access to the internet most of the time in this week.
We (Me and my lovely wife) both work in the same office but due to different building and shift timings, we meet once in a day. So here I am, saying "Hello" to everybody. I will try to be around most often like before. Just need some time to sort out a simple thing called "Life".
Regards,
Dinesh.

Nice to see you again Dinesh! Remember me??
Hi Dinesh,
Hope your arm and leg get better soon. It's a nuisance that the phone got smashed, but at least the phone can be repaired or replaced, while it's not so simple with one's health.

Regards,
Dinesh.

Hello Dinesh.
Nice to hear from you.
Just a pity it wasn't in happier circumstances.
Anyway, meeting just once a day would be considered a bonus in some marriages that I know of!

Hello folks, today I m as usual, working on a Sunday. Initially, I thought it is going to be fun at the office as there will be very less calls on weekend... But I was completely wrong. Our Irish customer just love us and do not forget to ring us for slightest problems with their phones.
Luckily, tomorrow I m home on account of Halloween.
How is/was your weekend guys?

Today is the last day of my one month long Durgapuja vacation .... and from Monday I will be at work . It feels good that I will be back in action again, and at the same time it feels bad that I am to jump back in the routine life again !

Hi guys, hope you are all well.
After my last disasterous failed attempt of a holiday...(I got rice poisoning on day 2 of what was supposed to be mine and john's ten year wedding anniversary getaway (not sure if John had something to do with that lol) and subsequently came home early... I continued to be ill for a few months after!)
However, thankfully, I have just returned from my recent holiday with John and Hannah and managed a whole seven days!
Thanks for all the mockery and congratulatory comments!

Did ours last weekend, here in the UK it's the end of October to change the clocks back, like you I do ours before going to bed, although I'd probably be up at 2am but not awake enough to go round changing clocks.
No chance of me getting up at 2am to change the clocks
Fortunately, my watch automatically adjusts when it synchronizes with the radio time transmitter overnight so that isn't a problem for me. The FreeView boxes also adjust automatically, so they aren't a problem either. It's the others that can cause problems, in that you think you've got them all, only to discover a day or so later that you've forgotten one! In my case, it's usually the one in the car. Fortunately, this time I didn't have to change the clocks at work. There are nearly 30 of them.

I remember having big marital problems with my first wife because of mushrooms. I found some nice mushrooms, made a soup but because I was not sure I invited my then mother-in-law to lunch, gave her some soup and just sat there waiting and looking her to eat, making some notes, asking her if she likes the soup or if there's any oddities.
The problems started when my wife stepped in to dining room just when I finished writing my notes after mother-in-law had finished her soup. My wife took the note from my hand and read it loud:
"Test subject seems to be OK, no visible changes or symptons. Subject tells soup tasted OK, also the aftertaste being quite pleasant. Conclusion: these mushrooms are not poisonous and can be eaten by humans, too."
We divorced a few months later.

In remembrance for those who have served their country!
THW
Thank You.... to all who have served !!!
For those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of freedom - we salute you.
We should all be thankful for our veterans' service.....both those who came back whole and those who paid the ultimate price. Let's also remember those who have been injured. Thanks to advances in medical procedures and technology, many of these brave men and women injured in combat survive now that would have died in decades past......and face incredible challenges dealing with their injuries for the rest of their lives.
Thanks to all of our Canadian friends who have stood with the USA, along with countless others.
Today, I talked to the Tech Guy from work and there's a slight chance that I got a bad processor because of the high temps it shows (45C idle and 70C load) with similar room temps and stock everything (voltages and cooling), we took an i5-2300 today and it was super cool (28C idle and 54C full load) so there's a chance that the processor is a little damaged in some way... I'm going to take the processor there to do some tests.. good thing is that we ran out of i5-2310 so if the processor i got is a bad one, i'll get a free upgrade to an i5-2500 for free but still i like my processor
Today I bought one Adidas black jacket(winter ) for pretty good price,50 Euros...
My utmost respect to all Veterans who served, and those who gave all. Also to those who support our veterans.

Today, I was brutally ripped out of my sleep by the most dreadful racket emanating from the enormous construction site in our street. When I ventured outside on my bike, I was forced to make a big detour because the road was blocked. Then, on switching to the public transport, we had to wait for about fifteen minutes because - you guessed it - the road was blocked further ahead. Finally, for the last lap, I ascended the bus, looking forward to a hitch-free ride.
Due to another road blockage, the bus had to change its route and spill us out onto the nearest tram...after which I finally arrived at uni with the minimum of patience and the maximum of wrath.
And since the autumn fair stalls were being taken down and loaded into vans, thus clogging up the footpaths, we had to walk in the middle of the road with annoyed cyclists swerving and swooping around us.

is the last day of the WEEK.
Today is also the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.
Are you sure?
Yesterday hmm? When was that? I forget.
Yesterday hmm? When was that? I forget.
Forget what? My memory has never been the same since I got married all those years ago...................
Happy Thanksgiving, Hoppy. I hope you have a good day.

I was going to write something here... but I've forgotten.
i'm surprised you made it as far as your keyboard!
Happy Birthday Dwarf?

Tomorrow is here and what I told myself late yesterday that what I was to do tomorrow wasn't that important
so now today I forgot what were we talking about.
I am sure Hoppy will remember and bring me up to date!

One wasn't listening yesterday and the other was sleeping.
I'm a bit confused about the definition of Today. Is it Tomorrow's Yesterday or is it Yesterday's Tomorrow ?
Dwarf, just listen to the voices in your head, it can be either.
I thought tomorrow never comes.
In one hour it is tomorrow, the same day Aussies and Kiwis have already now. But, in one hour, when I arrive to tomorrow where Aussies and Kiwis already are, my Yankee and Chico friends are still in yesterday. So in which day am I?
Confused...
Kari
Guess you're a bona-fide time traveller then, Kari.
I thought no matter what day it is, it's still today? A Guy
...unless it's yesterday.
Sometimes.
It is today now but can change at any moment.
It depends on what time zone my voices are in and what planet.

Monday Blues...
Specially at work.
That's exactly why I don't like them. If I have a Monday off, I don't mind the day at all....but when I do have to work it, it's one of the more unpleasant days to work.
Good morning, 08:06 here in the UK and I've just had my first cup of tea of the day.
It's a cold and foggy start to the day, but now that I'm retired, Monday just blends into the week like any other day.

Lucky you
You can say that again.
My wife and I were lucky enough to receive occupational pensions to top-up our state pensions.
We'll never be rich, but we still have each other and a comfortable lifestyle, so in that sense we consider ourselves very fortunate.
It is young people just starting out and young families struggling to make ends meet that we feel for.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Joy filled Thanksgiving this year,
I know so many are having a very hard time..making ends meet,
with many mouths to feed, cloth and shelter.
May your family and friends help those who have less than we do.
Point then to the churches where they can take part in free meals this year,
go help serve all those who need to know we care.
Our community will feed countless people this Thanksgiving Day.
We are so blessed!!!!

I added a little kludge to my HalfShell utility for FreeCommander 2009.02b
HalfShell opens folders selected in Explorer either using SysWow64\explorer.exe on a 64 bit system, explorer.exe in 32 bit system, or you can use an alternative file manager(shell) and it will open folders using that program.
If FreeCommander is the "Alternative Shell" in use when HalfShell is in Alternative Shell mode, it used to just launch FreeCommander.exe with 1 or 2 folders listed on the command line. Now if more than 2 folders are selected it will use a macro to open them in new tabs.
To show what I mean, here's an Explorer window with 7 folders selected:
At this point if you hit Shift-Enter FreeCommander ends up like this:
(Note the right hand side has 6 folder tabs.)
If FreeCommander is already running then all the folders are added as new tabs on the side that has the focus when the window is activated. This is, of course, provided you didn't change the key bindings. Control-t to open a new tab and Alt-g to open the edit line for the tab.
Just a kludge but fun.

Today the roads are being tarred right in front of our house. The noise is making the windows and furniture vibrate...This includes my chair and desk, so I am vibrating along...

Our heating has gone whacko overheating the place, with the result that I'm sitting in a T-shirt fanning myself, the windows half open, the temperature 25C indoors and 4C outside...

Bummer that you had to go back in but I'm glad you escaped.
Better go back to lurking I think they found you again.
I'm at home today stuck with a cold that some work colleague kindly decided to share with me....Lying on the couch using the wife's laptop to browse 7F. Need to find an appetite and shove some vegemite and toast down my gob....

After several days of tropical temperatures at home thanks to our whacko heating, a heating guy came out to check the problem and fixed it (he told us that the previous heating guy had made a complete mess of the system). It will take two or three days for the building to cool down, after which I will no longer have to wear T-shirts indoors when it is minus temperatures outside, and my plants can finally hibernate...and so can I ;-)
Today i completed 2 yrs at work. Thanks everyone for making that experience letter 2yrs ago.
Congrats Dinesh
So after 2 years, do you still like your job?
Thanks Savior, Arc and Randy. Yup, I still love my job.
Then congrats....you're better off than a lot of people. Some days I wish I could walk in there and tell my boss what to do with his job and then other days, it's not so bad.
You are welcome!

It must be Monday today...
First thing this morning, I fell in the shower, hurting my forehead and arm really bad (for those who know the story, my balance is still not very good). Then, a mug of hot coffee, ready to enjoy the first sip when out of nothing the mug decides it's time to depart from its bottom part. The bottom of the mug just fell onto my lap, spilling hot coffee to my bathrobe, stomach and thighs.
Booted laptop, checked Seven Forums. PM from admins, I have received an infraction and am now on parole . OK, I deserved it but still it's hurting. Checked news, jumped to car and drove Erfurt 160 km / 100 miles away. Halfway through, a place I know really well, a few kilometers stretch of 130 km/h speed limit on an otherwise no speed limit Autobahn, a speed camera I know very well took a photo of me driving about 180 km/h. Oh what a s***ty letter I will receive when they have developed the film .
It's only 11:20 AM at the moment. How will this day end?
Please someone confirm it is Monday today, at least somewhere in the Universe.

Kari
That is one bummer after another Kari.....perhaps you'd better find a hiding place for the rest of the day!
We dont want to know about the charity shop, windows installations, bla bla ....
Inform us the facts of Gracie's walking, your driving, and pole dancing
Gracie passed the driving test.
Carl is on his 5th instructor.
The first four are retired or in therapy.
Pole dancing? That must be Carl.
Today is the first day of testing for finals and I'm beginning to realize why the makers of Ativan stay in business....
Today I had my violin, which is more than 15 years old, re-stringed at a violin studio. The bow has to be re-haired because of wear and tear, so I'm looking forward to picking up my violin on Tuesday and "musicking" away in the evening ;-D
So you'll be serenading me later this week?

Today i got a new LCD Monitor.
An LG W2353V: 1920 x 1080 resolution, 2ms response, 50.000:1 contrast ratio, VGA/DVI-D/HDMI/Audio outputs and all the fancy stuff (tactile buttons), and pretty cheap actually
Sad thing is that it didn't come with a DVI-D cable, only VGA the other sad part is that i don't have enough room to put it in my actual table... the new is on its way, so until i don't have my new PC module i won't be able to hook it up any ideas for a good quality DVI-D cable? i've always used VGA.

40" (wide) x 48" (tall) x 24" (depth)

Today, 6th of December 2011 we Finns celebrate our 94th Independence Day. As an immigrant living far away from home I have today found tears in my eyes and warmth in my heart when talking with my mother on the phone and listening Jean Sibelius' Finlandia hymn. An especially great pleasure was to notice that first time ever Google noticed our day, so today we Finns have enjoyed of this:
I am sure all of you fellow ex-pats and immigrants can understand what I mean when I say that although completely happy with my adopted, self-chosen home country Germany, I really miss my native Finland. Especially today, 6th of December. Independence Day.
I really would like to ask you fellow geeks and geekettes to read what I wrote today one year ago: Today [5]
Please forgive me, old man being a bit sentimental...

Hello Kari.
What a fascinating story, there's certainly nothing to forgive.
When one considers what Stalin did to his own people it could be argued the it was only good fortune that enabled Finland to become an independent nation, but independent she is.
Enjoy your day, our thoughts are with you.

Happy Independence Day Kari. India was under the British Rule for over 175 yrs. I know what it feels to breathe in an Independent Country.

Christmas Poem by a Marine
T'WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
PLASTER AND STONE.
I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO
IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.
I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
NOT EVEN A TREE.
NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.
WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT
CAME THROUGH MY MIND.
FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.
THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.
THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED
A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.
WAS THIS THE HERO
OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
THE FLOOR FOR A BED?
I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.
SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.
THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.
I COULDN'T HELP WONDER
HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.
THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
AND STARTED TO CRY.
THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
'SANTA DON'T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;
I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS.'
THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.
I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.
I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE
ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
SO WILLING TO FIGHT.
THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
WHISPERED, 'CARRY ON SANTA,
IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE.'
ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
'MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,!
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.'

Christmas Poem by a Marine
T'WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
PLASTER AND STONE.
I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO
IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.
I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
NOT EVEN A TREE.
NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.
WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT
CAME THROUGH MY MIND.
FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.
THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.
THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED
A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.
WAS THIS THE HERO
OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
THE FLOOR FOR A BED?
I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.
SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.
THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,

Today i stood quietly with many others outside our cathedral as a mark of respect for Sapper Elijah Bond (24)
His coffin was being accompanied into the Cathedral by a Guard of honour.
it was particularly sad to see his young friends and family following his Coffin, and was a poignant reminder at this time of year that all is not well in certain parts of the world, and what a sad loss of life this was.
This post is not to bring people down at Christmas but to remind us that life can be / is short and to make the most of what time we have. party on!

Merry Christmas everybody! To all friends here I wish a peaceful Christmas and a prosperous 2012!
Today, as almost every year, we had invited some friends and neighbors for cocktails at home by us, followed by a late Christmas lunch in a local restaurant. What I saw in that restaurant is why I am posting this:
Dear geeks & geekettes, nerds & nerdettes, especially the younger ones, let an older man explain something to you: You do not need to be rich or have a top education to have manners, to behave civilized. It's causing me almost physical pain to see how quite a big part of young people today seem to have absolutely no idea of good manners. Please remember, we nerds and geeks can also behave civilized, regardless of our background.
Here's some key points I noticed today:
- First, one of the most important rules: a gentleman never wears a hat when inside, no matter if it is a Stetson, a baseball cap, a Borsalino or a simple woolly hat. Young men sitting in a restaurant, eating, wearing a hat, it really is uncivilized. No matter if it is Waldorf Astoria or Mcdonalds or Starbucks or Four Seasons, the hat is taken away already when entering a restaurant or cafe or house or building. This rule has no exceptions. Wearing a hat inside is rude, ugly and shows you have no manners.
- No matter how proud you are about your tattoo or piercing, it is no excuse to wear sleeveless t-shirt or one that leaves your belly naked or exposes half of your butt during the winter season, especially when it is one of the most important holidays and other people are dressing nice to occasion. You can brag of the results of your self-mutilation again on beach next summer.
- However fine headset your MP3 player has, it goes off when you are having a dinner with friends and family. Otherwise you show disrespect towards others.
- If you forgot your headset home, it does not mean you can listen your favorite music from your handheld device's speakers, not even to show the people how cool music you have.
- Same with mobile phone: it goes off or at least silent when gathering together for dinner. Also no texting or mobile surfing. Only exceptions are if you are on duty, that you need to be available because of your job or waiting a "life or dead" call. But, also in this case you do never take a call when sitting at the table; instead you excuse yourself politely and go where your call does not disturb others or cause unnecessary attention.
- You do not smoke when others are still eating. Especially in a non-smoking establishment, as I saw today
- Fork, knife and spoon are meant to be used as tools to get food from your plate to your mouth. Your fingers are not for this use. Exceptions exists, if you do not know those exceptions ask others in your company "Is this meant to be eaten with fingers?".
- Restaurants are in general not meant to be used for foreplay. Wait until you are back home or at least back in your car.
Basically I could rant a few pages but I think this was enough for now...
Other than that, we really had a nice day with friends. I especially enjoyed, once again, to see how beautiful my Angie is! I'm the proudest man on Earth standing next to her

I read somewhere that Germans and British were the most civilized humans on earth. Specially, they are well mannered when it comes to eating food.
Kari, whatever you wrote is quite noticeable almost every where on earth. Here in India, we're keen on adopting the "western culture" and keep forgetting the basic manners which separates us from animals.
...And we pride ourselves in calling us "humans".
P.S.: The current generation is so rude and arrogant.

Eating utensils are not an option so how do you expect the young ones to learn the intricacies of utensil manipulation?
They most likely would harm themselves or others.
Surely you do not expect the parents to have taught them good manners.

I must set up things I want to use, like my mail accounts.. Yes I can use my hotmail acct. on it, as well as a gmail acct. It uses Google as my browser (it's the android one. ) it is honeycomb 3.1I hope you're enjoying yours as well.

Just caught up with him....Reading the review on Could Antivirus!
The shortest review that tells a lot
I switched on my laptop today and it said Panda Cloud antivirus has stopped working. So that was it. Uninstalled.
So apparently it "couldn't".
In Crashes and Debugging Panda is between the worst (bsod sources) with mcafee and zonealarm.
The 3 caballeros.
I was simply bored of MSE and Avast so I thought I'd try panda. I just installed Avira to see how it works.
Avira aren't bad after all.

Today, hurt myself.
Today sucked.
Today sucked.
You wanna talk about it? How bad you get hurt?
Greg,
I asked the same question on Vista Forum and MWRed responded with this.
I have a problem with my right side sacroiliac joint.
Apparently there's not much that can be done about it at this point, until it gets so bad that I need some serious help.
I have a crooked pelvis, which from what I gather, is from issues with my hip, knee and ankle. I destroyed everything that holds my ankle together besides the bone. Was told that it would have been better if I had broke it, then they could have put it in a cast. They couldn't do anything, other than let the ligaments and tendons all reproduce/repair themselves. It didn't heal right, and I am always accidentally rolling and turning over my foot...sooner or later, i'm not going to catch myself in time, and i'm going to end up breaking it.
Kinda funny how I originally hurt my ankle.
Me, my boy, his mom, and her sister and kids were out sledding(this was roughly 12 years ago), and I jumped on a sled( round, disc shaped thing, a little too small for me to be on really) and sat on it, crossing my legs and holding on the sides. At the bottom of the hill is literally a small bump, so when you get to it, you "get a little air". I got air alright, and my foot slipped off the front of the sled, I landed on it, and it went under me and the sled. Take my word for it....it hurt.
A wrap, and "there's nothing we can do for it" was all they said, but they offered me a crutch, which I kindly told them where they could put it. I was mad.
My knees on the other hand got hurt on my first (AND LAST) time skiing. The breakaway ski's (supposed to breakaway from the boots if you wipe out) didn't breakaway.
the hip problem is actually with both hips, but mostly in one, and I have no idea why that started. I noticed it when I was about 22. it just slowly gets worse and worse, sometimes to the point to where, the way it feels, the ball of my hip will get stuck, feeling like it's almost dislocated.

Have you seen a physical therapist?
First thing I look for is what country he's in, to see if he's covered regardless. People are left without care by the millions in the US.

I'm still kicking over here. had an easy day at work. It has gotten better, like all the other times, it will disappear by the weekend, until It decides to come back sometime later. Probably during the summer.
Last summer when it was bad, I actually couldn't hardly cast my fishing pole. Trying to keep my balance in a boat was challenging.
Pain can't keep me away from fishing.

Hello, Forum..
Today is my last vacation day.. Well, i didn't take vacations at all, i was working 8 hours a day, 6 days a week.. Tomorrow i'll be taking my semester classes like i usually do, plus 4 hours a day, 6 days a week in my job.. I'm starting to realize how hard it's to study and work at the same time, i don't have time to be with my family, party, skate, or just sit around and do nothing.. i'm usually tired as hell.. Yesterday i skipped a party to work on a friend's laptops, ipod touch and blackberry.. it took me until 4:00am to finish the whole enchilada..
I want some vacations but i can't, i need the money to live and to pay for University, like i've seen on some threads: "Reality hits you hard, Bro"
Sometimes i just want to drop everything for a few months, but then i start to think about my career, i want to graduate, i want to go to Italy to visit my family (that's why i'm working, too..), but it's hard.. really hard..
I guess i just said everything i needed to get out of my system...
Cheers, Forum! Love you all..

Just hang in there and get your school work done first.
We are very proud of you by going to school and working.
I did that for 2 years until my wife told me we were going to be parent's. Wouldn't go back and change anything.
Best of luck to you,

It was when we saved your XP installation in a marathan thread that started here and was moved. It ended with this post which I wasn't ever sure you had seen or needed. Glad it helped:
Always good to max out your RAM. Here's the best video I've found to show how to install it if needed, plus you can check your work spec'ing it out to make sure it's the right RAM:
What's most important is to touch the case while touching the electronic parts so you're grounded, and don't work on carpet.
While in the case check your HD to see if you have WD or Seagate so you can use their superior free Acronis True Image backup imaging programs linked above - the Manual is on the Downloads pages, look for Backup Imaging in Contents.
If not use free Macrium from the tutorial link also above. Paragon 11 freeware is also good.
Save the backup image to the external. Make the boot disk so you have a rescue method if XP stops booting again and is irreparable. Just boot the disk and Restore from image in 20 minutes.

The non-stop rain during the cold winter got beyond my resistance . I am getting off today, will be back very shortly, when I will feel a bit better.

You take care of yourself Arc
I wish you to get well soon Archie!!
Interesting that you are getting all the rain.....it has been a very dry winter here so far.
Take a couple of days off Arc, you deserve it.
Hope you feel better soon Archie, even though we'll miss you it will be better for you if you take some time off and pamper yourself, hopefully this will return you to full health so you can come back fighting fit.
Take care.
Take care.
Take care of yourself my friend. I hope you feel better soon. A Guy
ARC.. gracious I'm sorry to learn you're not feeling well. it isn't like you at all.
As others have said above.. take good care of yourself.. hopefully by a day or so. you'll return feeling much improved.. Eat some chicken soup.. that always makes me feel better.. or whatever your comfort food is there.
Get extra sleep.

Today I am feeling a bit better, but still I am very weak. Actually the annual athletic meet will be held on this Wednesday ... so I was supervising the preparation of the tracks and field . It was damn cold already, and suddenly it started raining.
Consulted with the doctor and took some meds . After the meet is over, I will try to get some days as leave.

hey bro pea, sorry to hear your poorly,
if you can get or already have
lemons
ginger
honey
squeeze the lemon into a large mug ,removing the pips.
Peel then finely grate a chunk of ginger into the mug
fill mug with boiling water
add a dolop of honey to taste
infuse until brewed then drink.
the lemon will give you vitamin c which will help battle the cold you have
the ginger will soothe your throat and ease any soreness
the honey makes the lemon bareable .
failing that i can send auntie round she knows a good cure

I've been very busy lately. Starting of December, my company hired 16 new people for tech support dept. They were given a months's training and starting of this month, they were graduated on the floor to take calls. I, along with 2 other senior agents were chosen as the mentors for this new group. So I don't have to take calls anymore but to look after them and answer their queries. Then in the last 3 hrs, we've to train them with various devices like iPhone, wifi routers, etc. and once they leave for the day, I've to make reports about their progress for each day. Hence these 2 months are going to be very hectic for me. But at least I've climbed the 1St ladder for my promotion.
Congrats Dinesh, we're proud of you

Man, that's a very old man & I'm just 23. LOL.
Feeling a little bit pleased with myself.....managed to crack the Windows 7/Linux dual boot - the secret is to use the GRUB2 option in the EasyBCD program......EasyBCD is a really nice program : keeps the Windows MBR and GRUB bootoaders nice and separate so its easy to revert if I need to. Mint12 is so much better than Ubuntu...it will even let me use dual monitors
Next challenge for me is to overcome the the Windows 7/Windows 8 dual boot gremlins that plagued me earlier....................
