Alright so lets have a "fastest browser contest" :P
Basically you just benchmark your browser here Peacekeeper - The Browser Benchmark and post the results here ! you can benchmark as many browsers as you like that you use on your system...
Here I go
P4 2.8ghz
1gb RAM
128 GPU RAM no pixel shader (Lol)
Firefox wins for me :P

lol nice whats your specs o.o
Here we go:
Top left to right firefox 3.5b5 followed by firefox x64 3.5b4
bottom left to right IE followed by IE x64
I tried with Opera but it complained it couldn't find MSVCRT71.DLL not my problem so I uninstalled it right away. Google Chrome wouldn't even connect to the page... gone too
All in all firefox was the easiest, didn't need anything, unlike IE which needed to download some ActiveX controls (Meh!) Was the fastest by far too.
I was also downloading some files during the tests too...

Small update:
Passive system (nothing else happening - single tab in browser) - (got Chrome working - Ugly but fast) firefox is pretty much the same as before. I also tried fx x64 (shiretoko 3.5.b4) with java x64 and there was no difference to my earlier post.

wow chrome was owning in this thread so I was curios and tested it and guess what!
Firefox is my Default Browser. I need the extensions like Web Dev toolbar, xmarks, greasemonkey , wordpress helper, FastDial etc...
on my system Safari 4 beta wins hands down...
Chrome 2 doesnt do too bad...
Opera 9.64 performs better than FF...
Exploiter 8 is an EPIC FAIL... (as expected)
I ran the benchmark while my girlfriend was playing WoW so my results are probably inaccurate although they do reflect the "real" situation I work with...

if you bench mark IE8 or other browser with in the same system you'll know the answer
On a hunch, try lowering your refresh rate to 60Hz or something like that...
It wont let me. the lowest it says i can go is 70Hz>>
Not too bad.

Hi all. I'm new here. I thought I would post my results as I'm not sure how to read them. It appears as if Safari 4 for Win and Chrome win out but again I'm not certain. Anyway, here goes. Thanks and I look forward to learning a lot from everyone here.

I just ran one and it worked.
I D/L Chrome yesterday and that wouldn't work either, I think Chrome is rubbish as you have to adjust the zoom on every page so I uninstalled it.

I'm fairly certain the scores received through PeaceKeeper are effected by the hardware/operating system being tested on. Unless your looking for your scores 'just to be the best' then theres no real point in you 'improving' your scores.

Yeah, you can do that, or, attempt to uninstall IE, not use it, and download Opera (which you seem to have), or Chrome. Those are the fastest browsers. Safari is pretty fast too. You can also buy this machine: 48473 - Blackstorm Ultimate - Verkkokauppa.com

WOW.. upgraded to Chrome v5.0.356.2 and it jumped up 1788 points...
Chrome v5.0.335 - 6506
Chrome v5.0.342 - 8289
Chrome v5.0.356 - 8520
My big jump was 335 => 342 where I saw 1783 point jump. From 335 => 356 I saw an overall increase of 2014.
Obviously, the developers optimized the code along the way.

This is strange. These results do not reflect real world usage for me. Chrome loads web pages noticeably slower than either FF or IE
synthetic benchmarks do not reflect real world usage
Of course they don't however, what I should have said, was that margin of difference in this benchmark is way too great. I wonder what could cause such a big discrepency. These results reflect other people's experience with Chrome but for me, it's slower than FF all round.
Looks like I have some investigating to do
Looks like I have some investigating to do
I shouldn't have to tweak a browser to make it faster then another.
No tweaks at all and definately not a joke!
I suppose as I've said in the past "Different hardware, different setups, different results" but geez.

What I find odd is that I never have to wait on Internet Explorer to load....ever. So why switch to a "faster" browser?
IE loads quickly at startup; it just doesn't load pages nearly as quick as FF and Chrome - at least on my machines. That can make a big difference for those with slow internet connections.

I've got cable hookup, so you could be right. Have you ever tried running IE without ActiveX enabled?
My opera 10.51 score: 5884 (@work)
No, I haven't. I don't use IE except for MS sites and even then, I usually use FF with IE Tab. Back when I was living in the boondocks (five years ago) neither cable nor ADSL were available. All I had was dialup. I switched to FF because IE was so slow to render pages. Since then, I have used FF. Now that I have ADSL, the speed issue is not as important; but even with ADSL, FF, Chrome, and Opera are much faster at rendering most pages than IE8. And this new browser, Lunascape, is even faster. It is a pretty cool browser. Kari turned me on to it.
Yeah, me too. I downloaded it yesterday. However, I'm just going to use it when I need to check my JavaScript codes for browser compatibility. I love my IE8. The only time I didn't care for IE was when popups first started coming out [God I feel old]. IE would get uncontrolable popups, and open up more windows than you could close. But they fixed that shortly afterward. I guess I'm the only die-hard IE guy around. I never cared for Firefox, I think it looks like a kiddy browser.
Lunascape looks very practical, but is not the way forward. In an ideal world browsers should adhere to web standards...
Agreed; but unfortunately, we are not in an ideal world.
New version of Chrome Dev 5.0.360, gave me another big boost of around 700 points from 8520 to 9241.

Just ran the test again using Opera 10.52 portable.
Only use IE on some MS sites.
After I got Chrome, FF and Opera just weren't getting used, so finally let them go.
It's all personal preference, none are better than others, it's what you like and feel comfortable with. Well, except for IE, it's just slow.

I'm severely broadband limited as well. Slow connection
Not that it matters that much. According to this my Chrome install is twice as fast as my Firefox, but I can see no real world difference between them and I use Firefox as my browsers.
It's kind of hard to measure performance on the web because of the broad composition of code in different web sites plus factoring in network bandwidth / latency.

As far as I know, 64-bit linux operating systems cannot use 32-bit linux applications. Not an expert though so I could be wrong but try to install anything i386 and it will deny it.

I have just installed & benchmarked the Wyzo browser which is based on Firefox my PC seems slower today Opera seems to have slowed down by about 10% while Chrome is about 50% slower.
After running the Peacekeeper test on Wyzo & closing the browser I noticed there was a process left open by Wyzo (FF3.5.6) & it was still consuming 103 MB. Wyzo has several extensions added by default which may be slowing it down ?

I did notice that during the lower score times, I was also having slow access to the peacekeeper page.
It definitely seems like a flaky benchmark. Sunspider might be more consistent.
But benchmarking browsers is a largely pointless activity. A browser being even 2 or 3 times faster doesn't actually result in a better browsing experience, because the bottleneck is not in rendering, it is in getting pages off the net.

Dromaeo is better because it tests the DOM and some CSS selectors along with Javascript but doesn't test HTML5.
Slickspeed is a comprehensive benchmark for CSS selector framework speed.
There's no real good test for HTML5 canvas besides Peacekeeper. Maybe c5bench but it says its only for smartphones.
You are right that network download time (even if we had Google gigabit fiber) is still the dominant bottleneck in web performance but it is still good to improve in other subsystems.

And also note that Peacekeeper does have issues with ~20% margin of error.
is this good?
Just tested the latest betas from Chrome & Opera very close, remember Chrome 5 & Opera 10.52 are betas Chrome edges it but the Opera scores are more evenly spread.
I remembered i can tile the tabs in Opera makes it simpler if you want to show the details as well.

All the browsers are fast enough with my 10MB broadband even IE 8 , if the internet connection is slow or i am being throttled (capped) by my broadband provider the turbo mode in Opera will make it the fastest but if you forget to turn it off when your connection speed improves Opera will then be the slowest browser.
What the Peacekeeper test does not show is how fast Opera is when you use the back or forwards buttons that is noticeable.
IE 8 is fast enough for most sites but is pretty useless on sites like Chromium Experiments.
The User Interface of a browser is where you can gain speed the slowest part of my system is the human keyboard operator so has your browser got good keyboard shortcuts mouse gestures etc...
Opera has released 10.53 a stability & security fix. I benchmarked it against Chome which for some unknown reason was running very slowly so I installed a newer version & that was even slower. Opera & Firefox were unaffected.
Doesn't seem to me that opera's the world's fastest browser.
Some browsers you don't see often on Windows 7 64 bit running on a mobile processor.
@ Devon not on your PC but the fastest system on Peacekeeper using Opera 10.52 scored 14274 so if any browser can lay claim to being the fastest it's Opera .
Just tested the latest 10.54 beta from Opera & its very fast while Chrome at least on my PC has slowed to a crawl.
Two weeks ago Chrome 5.0.375.17 beta scored 11252 on my PC see page 15 of this thread post 148.
Since then on my PC Chrome has been running very slowly especially on the rendering tests installing the latest Chrome beta tonight it's the same story everything else on my PC is running fast browsing with Chrome feels as fast as ever it's only running the Peacekeeper test it seems slow especially the bouncing balls, no idea why.

Wow im looking at some of these and going, "How do you survive with internet that slow?!"
These browsers seem to be going backwards instead of forwards.
This Peacekeeper browser test is so crap. If I test with Opera while keep browsing, I get 20% higher point than normal.

Index of /buildbot/snapshots/chromium-rel-xp
Scroll down to the very last folder, no auto update ability for nightlies so manual updates only (meaning downloading the mini_installer.exe and running it to overright the current installed nightly).
Can be installed alongside Chrome/Chromium (Beta/Dev).
No clue. I put Maxthon beside it because thats what I used for that one.
I was going to compare Firefox with I.E.8
But it couldn't..... CONNECT !!!!!

Apple say Safari is "The worlds fastest browser, Safari has speed to burn"
I don't know what weed they've been smoking but its not that fast on my PC.
About Maxthon it's Chinese & based on IE it has a menu button like Opera paste & go & mouse gestures very few options to configure it.
"GPU rendering will used in conjunction with Webkit, one of two code sets that make up Maxthon 3.0s hybrid rendering engine. The engine translates a Webs pages HTML code into text and graphics displayed on the PCs screen. The other code set is Trident, used to optimize older Web pages written for Internet Explorers vintage display standards. Maxthons rendering engine switches automatically between the two code interpreters depending on the type of Web page the browser is opening."
Safari unknown & Internet Explorer 7 are both Maxthon 3.0.11.8
I've also tested Firefox 3.6.4 release candidate.

My result with the latest chrome:
With the latest (I think) nightly of Chromium 6.0.432.0 (49413)
Chrome is fast again on my PC but opening 23 tabs in both Opera was a lot quicker.
I like the way you can just drag & drop a bookmark folder into Chrome from another browser , pretty cool i hope Opera adds that feature.

@divilex, gpu acceleration for chromium is already in the works! As a matter of fact, our OpenGL-based gpu compositor is pretty complete although currently sitting behind a compile-time flag. I'm working on making it available as a command-line option within the next day or so. Please stay tuned.
@phistuck is right that a lot of even fairly new windows PCs out there don't have up-to-date OpenGL drivers. That's why we started the ANGLE project and are now working on integrating it with Chromium.
I'm glad Google will use a OpenGL-based compositor instead of DirectX, so we can get GPU-accelerated rendering on any Linux platform including Chrome on Android for Google TV, and Mac OS X.
At work...
Dang, still haven't cracked 10K. Chromium 6.0.432.0 (49506) This is with both GPU rendering and video layering enabled.
well for me.... i use 2 browsers...
firefox for all browsing and chrome for social sites....n these 2 rock.....
never liked IE, opera (dun know :P), safari (very heavy), maxthon (too messy), flock (once used, never liked again) etc...

GPU Accelerated Web Graphics NVIDIA, AMD, Google, Mozilla, Opera
"Accelerated Graphics, totally absent from Web world, are now opening up for direct GPU access offloading CPU further. A new venture that includes Mozilla, Google, and Opera Software along with graphics processor leaders AMD (ATI) and Nvidia, announced this morning their intention to produce a royalty-free mechanism for producing hardware-assisted 3D graphics using JavaScript-enabled Web pages, for initial distribution during the first half of next year."
