Blue screen of death. Urgent help needed. part 1

Cobrabite11

Hi, my computer keeps crashing and this is the most reason 'XML view' report and I was wondering if anyone knew what the cause was? Any help would be amazing. I am really worried. Thank you.

ZIP BELOW!

Cobrabite11

HERE!

Is Windows 7 . . .
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? 32 bit.
- the original installed OS on the system? No, vista.
I bought Windows 7 a while back. January time I think.

- What is the age of system (hardware)? 2 yearsish.
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) I reinstalled the 'update' version yesterday to try and cure the BSOD but it did not work.

ZIP FILE ATTACHED PLEASE PLEASE HELP!

richc46

There was no dump report. Read these instructions and be sure to follow step 2, Run as Administrator
http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

Cobrabite11

Finished. Followed all steps correctly!

CarlTR6

There is still no dump file. Try this:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...en-forums.html

And make sure you have mini dumps enabled.

Cobrabite11

They were not enabled so I have set it to appropriate settings. Would you like me to follow those steps again?
I am currently uploading MEMORY.DMP to megaupload for you to take a look at. Thank you.

richc46

We need the dumps to even begin the analysis.

CarlTR6

If you set it up, you do not need to do so again. It will save the dump the next time you have a BSOD.

Tews

Please, just zip up the file and attach it to your next post as an attachment...(paperclip icon) .. it makes it a lot easier for us...

CarlTR6

What antivirus and firewall are you running? I think I spotted McAfee. Uninstall McAfee using this tool >Info > Tool. McAfee is a known cause of BSOD's on some Win 7 systems. Install Microsoft Security Essentials in its place and make sure Windows Firewall is turned on.

I also spotted AVG. I suggest you install AVG. It is known to cause crashes on some Win & systems >
Tool (32bit) - Tool (64 bit). If you have AVG Identity Protection installed, remove it with this tool > Info > Tool

Cobrabite11

I am running AVG anti virus and also I can't upload the MEMORY.DMP file to here it will take too long so I am on megaupload, and I won't have minidump files until my next BSOD sorry! Can you do analysis on the MEMORY.DMP file?

CarlTR6

Zip the memory dump and upload it to a file sharing site. Then post the link. Some of us here can review it. I have not been very successful with them myself. Follow my advice and uninstall AVG and McAfee. That in itself may solve your problem.

Cobrabite11

I am currently following your advice and unistalling AVG and McAfee and then I'm currently uploading the memory dump file to megaupload which will be finished in five minutes and hopefully will give you some info.

Cobrabite11

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

There is the memory.dmp file. Please take a look at it while I finish uninstalling AVG. Thank you all so much.

Cobrabite11

Did anyone get any results? Please get back to me as soon as you can! Thank you!

Tews

Please be patient... sometimes doing a proper analysis takes a bit of time..

Cobrabite11

Sorry I am just nervous, thank you! I'm going to come back in 20 minutes I will be patient!

CarlTR6

It will be another 8 minutes before the dump is even downloaded. Then I will have to see if I have a script that works on it.

Cobrabite11

As long as you need I am very grateful! Post when you are ready, I will keep checking back. Thank you!

CarlTR6

I cannot handle the large memory file. Hopefully, one of the other team members can.

Cobrabite11

No problem, could you please help me get the file looked at by asking one of the other available team members! Thank you.

Jonathan_King

I'm downloading it now, I'll try my luck at it.

Next time, if you need to upload a full dump, right-click on it, and select Send to>New compressed folder.

We can cut the size from 225MB down to about 80 or so.

Cobrabite11

Sorry about that! Please get back to me when you can! Thank you so much!

Update your ATI drivers ASAP!
Code:
atikmdag.sys Fri Jul 27 23:36:35 2007
Here is the download page: Graphics Drivers & Software

It is not good at all that drivers so important as the GFX drivers are so out of date.

Your touchpad drivers are also quite outdated:
Code:
SynTP.sys Thu Aug 14 22:02:22 2008
Do follow Carl's advice to remove AVG. Install MSE as a replacement: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials

Let's start with that. Make sure that your system is set to create a minidump.

If the BSODs persist, enable driver verifier: Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

...Summary of the Dumps:
Code:

Cobrabite11

Could you please give me a link so I can update my touchpad drivers and any other links you would recommend? And yes I have uninstalled AVG and replaced it with the recommended MSE. Thank you for your help.

Jonathan_King

Try this driver for touchpad: Download License Agreement | Synaptics

Be sure to update that ATI driver!

Cobrabite11

I am downloading that one but it is urgent! Please please give me a download link for that ATI driver. It directed me to the toshiba website where I couldn't find it. PLEASE, PLEASE HELP!

My laptop is: Toshiba Satellite L300D-11V and I need a driver for the ATI Radeon X1250 for Windows 7!

Cobrabite11

PLEASE someone find the correct driver for me this is urgent!

Jonathan_King

Try installing this driver: https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206...a32-64_wdm.exe

Let me know if you get an error, and we'll get you a different link.

Sorry I'm just in a panic and no that told me I did not have access. Also, it is telling me my Realtek HD Audio drivers are out of date too.

Could you post the relevant links for both as it would be a major help!

Thank you for all your time.

Jonathan_King

Try here: ATI Catalyst™ Legacy Display Driver

Cobrabite11

Also, could you find me the Realtek audio HD drivers?

Jonathan_King

Sure, try here: Realtek

You want the Vista, Windows7 Driver (32/64bits) Driver only (Executable file).

Cobrabite11

Thank you. Everything is good now and hopefully I won't experience anymore BSOD!

Jonathan_King

Keep us posted!

Cobrabite11

Using Driver Detective it is telling me everything is up to date apart from my realtek audio however, I installed the one you linked me and I don't know if there is a more recent one for my model. Could you please tell me what I should do?

Tews

Wait and see if you continue to have more BSOD crashes..

Cobrabite11

Ok thank you! Will keep you posted if I do!

CarlTR6

I want to thank Jonathan for stepping in and analyzing that memory dump and thank Tews for helping also. I thank you for following instructions and suggestions.

Please post back in a day or so and update us. If you are still BSOD free, we will ask the mods to mark the thread as solved

Cobrabite11

I have just a BSOD several minutes ago. I will follow the posting instructions and get back to you. Sorry about all this.

Cobrabite11

Here is the results..

Please help me.

Cobrabite11

I really appreciate all this work guys. Please post when you have analysed the files. Thanks.

I installed that patch and I am running the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor but I have unistalled iTunes today after the BSOD and I think it may be iTunes that is causing the problems. Have you heard of iTunes causing crashes in Windows 7 before?

Jonathan_King

I haven't heard of iTunes causing BSODs before, but anything is possible. A reinstall of iTunes may help.

Cobrabite11

I will reinstall iTunes. Would you like me to upload the report from the upgrade advisor here? It has given me 5 issues. All Toshiba.

Cobrabite11

Here is that report.

Cobrabite11

Could you get me links for all the things I need to install as I am finding it really difficult.

Jonathan_King

I suspect it may be some incompatible Toshiba driver. See if that driver you installed fixes the crashes. If not, post back with the BSOD Posting Instructions.

Cobrabite11

I agree but the programmes it has listed as incompatible I have tried opening just there and it won't let me upload so I need to be able to get the installation files for all of those and I can't find them. Could you help me?

CarlTR6

Make us a list of the programs/devices you need help with and we will assist. I took a try at this one -

DVD MovieFactory for Toshiba: DVD MovieFactory for TOSHIBA Software Informer: Latest version download, news and info about this Ulead Systems, Inc. program.

What I did was paste "DVD MovieFactory for Toshiba" into Google search. You can do this with each one. If you get stuck, just post and we will help.

Cobrabite11

Ok, thank you! I have downloaded everything I think I need to download and I will wait it out and see if I get anymore BSOD. If I do I will come back here. Thanks for the help!

CarlTR6

Very good. I hope you will be BSOD free! Please update us in a couple of days and let us know how your system is running.

Cobrabite11

BSOD AGAIN!

Here are the minidump files. I am currently following the sticky posting instructions and will also add that when it has finished but for now here these are.

CarlTR6

Both dumps are error code 19, BAD_POOL_HEADER. Usual causes are device drivers. Unfortunately, the dumps do point to any specific driver.

Let's try driver verifier and see what that shows us. Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Run Driver Verifier for at least 24 hours and use your computer normally. Upload any BSOD's as soon as it is convenient to do so.

Cobrabite11

Here are the results!
And I can not use my computer for 24 hours straight! Can I leave it on overnight just running?

richc46

Hope you dont mind, but just to add to Carls astute advice

A pooler header issue is a problem with Windows memory allocation. Device driver issues are probably the msot common, but this can have diverse causes including bad sectors or other disk write issues, and problems with some routers. (By theory, RAM problems would be suspect for memory pool issues.

Just a thought, if memory was not checked.

Cobrabite11

I apprieciate your post I just don't understand what it means! Can you dumb it down for me? Maybe instructions on what to do?

richc46

Bottom line, if you did not take a memory test, take one. Its hit and miss, and I could be wrong, but its a thought.

Download memtest86 and test RAM
RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Cobrabite11

I took a memory test and it said no errors and told me to press ESC to reboot and I did and it went black then before it even started to open again I seen a blue screen and then it went black again and started to boot.

Cobrabite11

I think that blue screen was a little problem at start up though to do with the test not previous crashes. Would you like me to follow the normal procedure and upload the usual up to here or can we skip that?

richc46

If you are posting to me, there is nothing to upload. Just follow the instructions for the memory test.

Cobrabite11

I done the memory test. No errors. Should I just come back and post BSOD results next time it happens and see where we go from there?

richc46

Continue to follow the instructions of the other membesr, who are helping you. I just had a thought that it might be memory related. You are working with quality members of the BSOD squad. Follow their instructions.

CarlTR6

Thank you, Rich, very much for helping. I appreciate it.

To answer this question. Yes you can. You can just run it for a couple of days.

Quote Quote: Originally Posted by Cobrabite11 View Post

You ran Memtest for at least seven passes, correct? And there were no errors showing in red?

If no errors were found in seven passes, you RAM is most like fine. That is good news. But we still have to find the problem.

Go ahead and run Driver Verifier. You don't need to let your computer run all night. You can shut it and down and when you reboot, Driver Verifier will be running until you turn it off. Here is the link to the tutorial: Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable. Use your computer normally. Upload any BSOD's as soon as it is convenient to do so.
Hopefully if a driver is the cause, a BSOD will identify the faulty driver.

Our next step will be to test your hard drive. But we will do that after you run Driver Verifier.

Cobrabite11

Ok, well I am running Driver Verifier. I will come back next BSOD as it is getting kinda late. Thanks guys.

Cobrabite11

Problem again. Windows update told me it needed to do updates but on reboot BSOD kept happening and wouldn't let me in to my system. I booted safe mode and looked and the windows update had infact installed an earlier version of my Synaptics Pointing Device driver than the one I was already running. So I did a system restore and now I can get into my system. Will be uploaded crash reports soon.

Cobrabite11

Here are the dump files and things. I am going out for a while so I may not reply for a few hours but I will come back. Please help me figure out what's wrong.

CarlTR6

Again, both dumps are error code 19, BAD_POOL_HEADER. Usual causes are device drivers. Unfortunately, the dumps do point to any specific driver. Driver Verifier is not enabled in these dumps. Enable Driver Verifier if you have not done so. Post any dumps generated by Driver Verifier. You definitely have a hardware issue, we just have to find it through the process of elimination.

Jonathan_King

Perhaps the problem is caused by your outdated Agere Modem drivers from Toshiba.

Try installing this driver: http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/cont...C00221500C.exe

Cobrabite11

You also have an old version of a known problem.

ASACPI.sys fffff880`03d52000 fffff880`03d5a000 0x00008000 0x42476c4c 3/27/2005 22:30:36

Quote:
The 2005 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.
Please visit this link: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- download_item_mkt
Scroll down to the Utilities category, then scroll down to the "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Windows 7 32&64-bit " (it's about the 8th item down).
Download and install it.
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers to check and make sure that the ASACPI.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (NOT 2005).

Jonathan_King

Hi. I have downloaded that file yet I do not know how to install it as it will not appear in the folder you told me it would but it is still in my downloads folder.

Cobrabite11

Just double-click on the driver zigzag linked to, and a black box should appear, then close.

The driver should then be installed.

Cobrabite11

I have done that but the ASACPI.sys remains in downloads and does not move to drivers folder.

CarlTR6

And driver verifier is running.

Cobrabite11

After the driver installs, reboot your computer.

Cobrabite11

I have rebooted but driver has still not moved.

In my downloads folder I have a folder called: MB WIN7 ATK then inside that is a folder called 32 and another one called 64 then inside 32 there is folders named Win7 or WIN2000 or WINVISTA then there is an .exe file called AsAcpiIns which is what I double clicked and a configuation settings file called install. Then in the Win7 file there is a security catalog called asacpi then a setup information file called asacpi then a system file called AsAcpi.sys (which should be in drivers).

CarlTR6

Windows Update is telling me there are two important updates to install. One called: Update for Windows 7 (KB2272691) and another called Update for Windows 7 (KB982110). Should I install them?

Guest

Navigate to c:\windows\system32\drivers. Look in that folder for ASACPI.sys and check the date. If it is dated 2009 or later, it updated. Installing will not remove the files from your Downloads folder. The files will remain there until you delete them.

CarlTR6

Yes, but make driver verifier is turned off before you attempt to install the updates.

Cobrabite11

Asacpi.sys is not there. I will reboot again.

Cobrabite11

I disabled verifier. Installed the updates. Checked to see if asacpi.sys is in the drivers file yet (it wasn't). Then reenabled verifier.

CarlTR6

Good job on updating and re-enabling Driver Verifier. There was no asacpi.sys file in Drivers at all? Not even the one dated 2005? If not, open Windows Explorer, click on "Local disk C:" and do a search for asacpi.sys. If the search only finds it in the Downloads folder, you don't have to worry about that driver.

Cobrabite11

Upon rebooting which is needed to renable verifier I was hit with a BSOD straight after the Windows sign screen so I couldn't enter my system. Therefore, I had to go into safe mode and disable verifier and reboot to log back in.

Cobrabite11

I found 6 files called asacpi.sys but all were in the MB WIN7 ATK folder in Downloads. Can I delete that folder now and forget about it?

Cobrabite11

Hopefully I won't get any BSOD from now but if I do I will come back here and upload all reports. Thank you.

CarlTR6

Hold on to those files for a while. If you get another BSOD, we will look to see if that 2005 version shows up. If it does not, you can delete that download. If you run for a week or so and have not crashed, you can delete it. Those files won't do anything sitting there except take up space.

Good luck and I hope you are BSOD free.

Cobrabite11

Didn't get a BSOD ALL of yesterday. Finally thought I was free until I just got one there. I am going out so if I don't respond immediately I will reply soon.

Cobrabite11

Did anyone figure out why that BSOD was caused?

ttran

CarlTR6

Follow Ttran's advice and update those drivers. Obsolete drivers cause conflicts, memory corruption and crashes, especially thos edatedd 2006, 2007, 2008. Please let us know if you need help with the drivers.

Cobrabite11

I can't find direct links to any drivers as I am unsure on which files to look for. Please could you give me DIRECT links to what I need to download and install and I will do that.

Cobrabite11

Finding drivers is difficult for me although device verifier often stops my computer from opening and I have to boot into safe mode. Please could you give me direct download links for any drivers you feel necessary.

CarlTR6

Turn Driver Verier off while you are updating drives.

Ttran provided the links in his post. Go to each link he provided, look for help and support or downloads, search for the driver. When you find it download the driver to your desktop.

AGRSM.sys - SoftModem Device Driver belongs to the software Agere Systems Soft Modem or TOSHIBA V92 Software Modem or Creatix V.92 Data Fax Modem by Agere Systems (www.agere.com). Try the Toshiba site first and if you can't find it there try the Agere site.

I doubt if you can find an updated driver for Chicony USB 2.0 Camera; but it is worth a try. If you can't, uninstall this camera; it is obsolete.

Let us know which ones you can find and which ones you can't.

How To Find Drivers:
Quote:
- I have listed links to most of the drivers in the code box below. Please use the links there to see what info I've found about those drivers.
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
Quote:

- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page:
Drivers and Downloads

Cobrabite11

I understand he provided links but I can not find my way to navigate towards the driver I need. I am finding it too difficult to locate, and I can't uninstall the camera I use it for MSN sometimes.

CarlTR6

You need to upgrade and get a camera that is compatible with Win 7. Hardware and software that was made to run on XP is not going to run well on Win 7 unless the manufacturer has upgraded it to do so.

Download and run Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor: Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - Download - Microsoft Windows

Post your results. I will help you with the drivers. I have some things I have to do. I will be back in about 1.5 hours.

Cobrabite11

Here are my results. Thanks for the help.

CarlTR6

Ok, very good work. Start with the programs on the first page that Update Advisor has no information on. The Advisor says update available. Go to the Toshiba search for each of these programs. When you find, read about the current version. Is it compatible for Win 7? Download and install the updated program. It will take some work and searching to find the updates. If the update is not available on the Toshiba site, go to the program manufacturer's site and search.

I notice that the camera did not show up. Did you have it plugged in before you began the scan? If not plug it in and run the scan agaon. See what Advisor tell you about the camera.
Quote:
Before scanning your PC with the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, be sure to plug in and turn on any USB devices or other devices, such as printers, external hard disks, and scanners, that you regularly use with the PC you're checking.

Cobrabite11

The camera is built in to my laptop.

CarlTR6

You can check any of your programs or devices by going to this link:

Windows 7 Compatibility: Software Programs & Hardware Devices: Find Updates, Drivers, & Downloads

The advisor should have picked it. Did you look at each of the categories?

Cobrabite11

I used the toshiba website and found a lot of drivers that were supposed to be installed on my drivers and spent a long time installing them all. I think this will make my computer BSOD free but if not I will come back. Thanks.

CarlTR6

Excellent work, cobrabite. Good job. I hope this solves your problems and your system runs smoothly. Post back in a few days and let us know. If you have another crash, upload the new dump file and we will go from there. Good luck.
