Task scheduler error part 1

brianzion

can any one help with this error its when i open up the task scheduler

brianzion

i also have this error to

brianzion

I think your error is unrelate to my article.Make sure you have in "Folder Options" checked "Show hidden files and folders" or better way use any 3p file manager i.e Total Commander and empty folder C:\Windows\system32\Tasks,if problem repeat you have to diagnose which one soft cause this problem - you have to chek in event viewer>>Application section...

brianzion

thanks for your feedback

brianzion

cant resolve this problem

brianzion

Go to Start>>Search>>services.msc and make sure Performance Logs & Alerts service is set to manual and try to run it manually.

EDIT

If Performance Logs & Alerts service work fine and stiill you have this problem then remove the folder C:\Perflogs

brianzion

thanks tried that but no change

Did you delete folder C:\PerfLogs as I said in my previous post? I edited my previous post and I don't know you noticed it...

Guest

do i delete the folder and its contents(if so where do the reports go?) or just the content? i removed all the schedule's in task schedule and tried that but that did not work so i put them back (its quite easy you export them to a folder for safe keeping then import them back.)

brianzion

You have to delete the WHOLE this folder! System will rebuild this folder when you will create new system health report -don't worry!

brianzion

no that did not work

brianzion

The wait for the report generation tool to finish has timed out. same error i wonder if i can change "generation tool" timer?

it made another C:\PerfLogs folder and new reports are in there but its not showing the gui like normal? when it finishes i just get "The wait for the report generation tool to finish has timed out" error

brianzion

Strange reset reliability monitor Reliability Monitor - Reset and will see...

brianzion

i do not want to system restore neither do i wish to reinstall i would much rather workaround this error i have informed Microsoft its tedious Ive been trying to solve this for 2 days now im wondering if updates have caused this

Guest

Find key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Schedule key and then delete its subkeys

Guest

is it this one?

this one

Guest

becuase you have this one in your error

Quote:
<Provider Name="Microsoft-Windows-TaskScheduler" Guid="{DE7B24EA-73C8-4A09-985D-5BDADCFA9017}" />
go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCache\Tasks\{DE7B24EA-73C8-4A09-985D-5BDADCFA9017}

click on this key and read to which one program belongs it

one example from my computer:

Attachment 90519

in this example as you can see task has been created by Windows Media Center

identify program, remove this key and check remains subkey. If any subkey relate to the same program too, then delete it too,and of course uninstall this program as well.

Not for all subkeys administrators have full access so to remove some keys sometimes you will need takeownership it Take Ownership of file - Vista Forums

Guest

cant see it?

Guest

In fact, there is no this key here

You have no choice -you have to delete all subkeys in this key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule - when you will create new system health report system reconstruct these keys too but you have realize creating new report will take more time - in my virtual machine it was almost 30 minutes

brianzion

thank you for your help and Patience do you mean what i have highlighted ?

brianzion

You have to remove all subkeys not only this one string

you have to remove

HKLM\...\Schedule\Aliases
HKLM\....\Schedule\CompatbilityAdapter
HKLM\...\Schedule\Configuration
HKLM\...\Schedule\CredWom
HKLM\...\Schedule\Handlers
HKLM\...\Schedule\Handshake
HKLM\...\Schedule\Taskcache

you will need takeownership each key with it's subkeys Take Ownership of file - Vista Forums

My special technical warning:go to advanced options in permissions and check "replace all child object permissions with with inheritable permissions from this object"

Attachment 90528

to apply changes to all subkeys with each key -in this way you do this must quicker.

As I said - first creating system health report will take more time than usually, next times will be in mormal times

Good luck!

brianzion

Theoretically it should fix both -system health report & task scheduler

brianzion

because its the registry i have to get it right. so if i right click on schedule and delete?

Guest

Quote Quote: Originally Posted by brianzion View Post

I'm not sure it's correct operation -emptying Schedule key (with its subkeys also) -surly yes,but deleting it I'm not sure -other example emptying TEMP folders is also correct operation but removing TEMP itself -no.

Guest

And what about reseting Schedule key?

If you have problem to apply permissions to all subkeys, alternatively you can try this method:

1.Download SetACL tool Download SetACL: Windows ACL management from SourceForge.net,extract from ZIP file SetACL.exe and place it in C:\Windows\System32

2.Run cmd.exe with elevated previlliges (right click on cmd.exe as admin) and type (or better copy from post and past to console):

setacl -on "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule" -ot reg -rec yes -actn setowner -ownr "n:Administrators;"

press ENTER

setacl -on "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule" -ot reg -rec yes -actn ace -ace "n:Administrators;p:full"

press ENTER

REG DELETE "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule"

press ENTER

REG ADD "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule"

press ENTER

//as you can see all command give Administrators group full acces to Schedule key and its subkey, remove Schedule key and next recreate empty Schedule key//

Next try again to create system health report..

and this is when i follow microsofts link for the error>Event ID 1006 — PLA Data Collection Status

and a link for the error codes>>http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms681381.aspx

both your errors

from post 8

Quote:
<Provider Name="Microsoft-Windows-TaskScheduler" Guid="{DE7B24EA-73C8-4A09-985D-5BDADCFA9017}" />
and from post 28

Quote:
<Provider Name="Microsoft-Windows-Diagnosis-PLA" Guid="{E4D53F84-7DE3-11D8-9435-505054503030}" />
both relate to Application and System section in event viewer, exactly both keys are in

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\WMI\Autologger

I think it's any WMI error

Try below

1.Run cmd.exe with elevated previlliges (right click on cmd.exe as admin) and type:

sfc /scannow

2.Again in cmd.exe with elevated previlliges type:

winmgmt /resetrepository

show also message which this command return

+ restart

3.In cmd.exe also with elevated previlliges type

wevtutil cl Application

press ENTER

wevtutil cl System

press ENTER

If nothing help as one of your links suggest make this command in elevated command prompt

typeperf -qx >%userprofile%\Desktop\log.txt

On your desktop appear log.txt file -attache this file to post...and I'll answer tomorrow or day after tomorrow because in such sophistacated case I have to consult with one my friend which is an expert from WMI...

brianzion

thanks very much

brianzion

I've checked already your log -nothing special. There are only standards errors whom you can meet on many machines.

Many people reports some issue with Task Scheduler/perfmon are caused by 3p security software. So I suggest uninstall completely 3p security software and check results.

brianzion

thank you i will try the security software today

brianzion

i tried the machine without security but there is no change in the errors

brianzion

i was checking services and the Microsoft. net to see if that has an affect on the problems????

thanks i reported all these probs in this thread to Microsoft technet and waiting for an update in there forums i think the problems are not a commen one.

Guest

Maybe I'll try it diagnose in other way.

Download & run Process Monitor Process Monitor

Run Process Monitor and task manager (in processes tab choose "show processes for all users") and open Taks Scheduler, when it return error go to processes tab, find mmc.exe process, right click on it and choose "create DUMP file",save it anywhere, save also Process Monitor log as *.PML file, pack all to *.rar or *.7z format and upload on RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting

Still nothing wrong I can see ,We'll try to catch this error in a bit different way.

Again run Process Monitor and task manager (in task enable "show all processes for all users"),try to create system health report, when it return error (don't close any window!) go task manager find perfmon.exe process right click on it and choose "save as dump file",save anywhere, save also log in Process Monitor as *.PML format, pack all, upload on rapidshare and give me URL addresses to uploaded files.

is that not the same as i have already done ?

No.Probably I tracked incorrect file,it should tracked process with that is problem (not with higher process) - previous it was tracked mmc.exe and shouldbe perfmon.exe -thus I need DMP file from perfmon.exe, because many processes ID are only temporary per session (not pernamently constant) I need new log from Process Monitor too -both *.PML and *.DMP must be done in the same session.

brianzion

i have done the logs just uploading to rapidshare

There are couple strange things to verify, this time PM detected some problems with permissions, let's check it:

1.Empty the whole C:\Windows\Temp folder (delete all files and subfolder in this folder,if you will have any problems with it,then do that in safe mode)

2.I attached to post with original permissions for HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WBEM\CIMOM key. Please download it and place on your desktop:

Next run cmd.exe with elevated previlliges (right click on cmd.exe as admin) and type:

setacl -on "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WBEM\CIMOM" -ot reg -actn restore -bckp "%userprofile%\Desktop\Cimreg.txt"

press ENTER

next restore permissions for C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile ,also reported by PM

setacl -on "C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile" -ot file -rec cont_obj -actn ace -ace "n:Administrators;p:full" -ace "n:System;p:full" -ace "n:bry;p:full"

press ENTER

Warning:

I saw in your log your account folder is C:\Users\bry -probably "bry" is also your account name if it's another correct last my command

3.I saw in your log some queries for C:\autorun.inf,D:\autorun.inf - hard to say from log these objects exist in your system or not...Do you have any such kind of objects in your system on any partition?Check it by using any good 3p file manager i.e Total Commander, explorer may not see these files...

Guest

hi yes bry is my user name is it safe to remove all the temp files?

Yes.
do i leave the temp folder as a folder in windows' and just empty all its contents?

Guest

when i run this i get this in cmd?

Next run cmd.exe with elevated previlliges (right click on cmd.exe as admin) and type:

setacl -on "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WBEM\CIMOM" -ot reg -actn restore -bckp "%userprofile%\Desktop\Cimreg.txt"

press ENTER

brianzion

To have able to make this command you have to have setacl.exe in C:\Windows\System32,probably you removed this tool thus you have error. Please download this tool again Download SetACL: Windows ACL management from SourceForge.net,extract setacl.exe file and place it in C:\Windows\System32 folder and repeat these commands again.

brianzion

I have only one question.Do you have on any partition autorun.inf files? There was many querries to these files. As I said in any previous post hard to say you have such kind of files or not,the better way to check yourself in any 3p i.e Total Commander -if you have such kind of files that means you have some trojan in your system.Independly the answer is yes or now I recommend use Windows live One Care Windows Live OneCare safety scanner: Free online tool for PC health and safety to scan and diagnose all potential issues in your system

Try also reset security settings to defaults by using both methods

1.How do I restore security settings to the default settings? (for you is applicable method for Vista)

2.Try also this soft Rizone Security Restore 0.2.2.228 | Rizonetech 2

...and no more idea - if these softs also does not fix problem you have to contact with MS Support...

jeffmason

i searched autorun.inf, i have a partition on the main hard drive and that showed nothing i have external drives and im looking at them now.

Guest

Try also reset all settings for Task Scheduler service -import this fix to registry (this i completly different fix than fixes attached in my tutorial) Attachment 94055 + restart -If it doesn't work do that what I said in post 63.

Guest

I'm just preparing tutorial about WU issues due to CLFS transaction logs issue...and I found it that issues with CLFS transaction logs may cause issues with TaskScheduler, perfmon, system health report too...

So try reset CLFS transaction logs in three ways:

1.Follow to this MS article You cannot change the settings for a file backup operation or use Windows Task Scheduler to change the defrag schedule in Windows Vista (I suggest use built-in "MS Fix it" program)

2.Manually "hard method"

Try reset transaction in harder way:

Boot system in "safe mode with command prompt" (see also Advanced Boot Options
)

and type:

cd %windir%\system32\config\txr

press ENTER

attrib -r -s -h *

press ENTER

del *

press ENTER

cd %windir%\System32\SMI\Store\Machine

press ENTER

attrib -r -s -h *

press ENTER

del *.TM*

press ENTER

del *.blf

press ENTER

del *.regtrans-ms

press ENTER

if any command return error unable to delete file because file is used go to point 3 -you have to do that from from your installation disk level

3.The hardest method -Boot your installation disk

Choose language>>repair computer>>command prompt

and type:

cd /d C:\Windows\system32\config\txr

press ENTER

attrib -r -s -h *

press ENTER

del *

press ENTER

cd /d C:\Windows\System32\SMI\Store\Machine

press ENTER

attrib -r -s -h *

press ENTER

del *.TM*

press ENTER

del *.blf

press ENTER

del *.regtrans-ms

press ENTER

Guest

well im still in the dark with the two probs Microsoft is stubborn on a reply in the forums i have posted in om there tech sites, thanks for all your kind help i will post with any news.

Just a follow-up on an OLD thread. It is now mid-April 2012, and I am seeing this same type of error:

FYI. (Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit SP1)
