Kari says he misses his friends as SF. The neurologist said he is recovering and he is planning to turn on his PC this weekend. Feeling already better, but not as active as he wants to be!

Great news! Thanks Dinesh!

Dwarf

That is good news. Thanks, Dinesh.

Thorsen

Good stuff. I am glad he is recovering. I know we have all been worried as to how well he would recover. I hope for him everything gets back to normal or with the help he is getting, he can cope with any disabilities this has caused him. Bless you Kari, I am so happy you are recovering.

Hmm, I missed this thread. Good to hear about the recovery. Hope he continues on well.

Kari

Hi guys.

To put it short, what started as Meniere's Disease problems as both me and my doctor thought, me fainting and throwing up all the time, ended with a stroke. Been in hospital and therapy since that, trying to learn to walk and talk once again.

I'm quite useless ATM, left side of my body is not working, my mouth looks comical when the left side has dropped an inch or so, my speech is almost impossible to understand and so on. Powered my computer first time in over a month yesterday, now trying to cope with it only using right hand and two fingers. Noticed already that using keyboard is a bit difficult, so I'm typing with on-screen keyboard.

Going through extensive therapy, all possible forms: physiotherapy, logotherapy, ergotherapy, speech lessons; you name it, I have it. Angie's love, the different therapists and my lifesaver neurologist are slowly but surely bringing me back to the world.

Please be patient with me, the way I have to use the computer ATM is very slow and uncomfortable. But I'm trying.

Kari

Dinesh

I wish you all the success in your recovery mate. Glad to see you online after a month.

Is that typing with one finger and giving the occasional 2-finger salute when you make a spelling or other mistake?

I hope that you continue to improve, and that you soon start to recover the use of your left hand side.

Joan Archer

Oh it's so wonderful to see you back online Kari, doesn't matter if you're slow or make a mistake just the fact that you are back is enough to put the cheer back into to us all.

Take all the time you need we're all here waiting for you and we aren't going away.

Don't worry too much, you will get better soon.

Dom

Kari, this has really brightened up my day - just to see you posting now for over a month. I am sure you are finding things very difficult right now, just try not to rush things and get ahead of yourself. Do what the doctors and therapists tell you to do, one step at a time. You will be back to normal before you know it, and maybe even forget it happened. And don't go trying to help people YET Kari

We have all missed you,and are extremely happy for your return.
Best wishes,

Dom.

I'm not a person who prays Kari but I am thinking about you. I have a friend who had a stroke last year and I know the long struggle he went through to regain some movement in his left side.
He's almost back to normal now, I don't know if it as good as it's going to get but he keeps going.
I miss your clever posts and your strange, dry, hybrid wit. Your stuff was always worth reading.
There's no pressure here. You post when your good and ready but all the best of luck friend.
Keep going and don't get down.

Quite right....Dinesh was our insider who got us news of Kari's progress, and then tragedy struck his family, so he is taking a break from here.

So Kari, if you get to read this.....

Dinesh

Sorry I could not get time to update this thread. Kari was in the hospital for a week again. His left side has been paralyzed. He cant even hear or speak properly. The doctors says it will take time for the recovery but I think its been already more than a month and his health is only getting worse.

God Bless You Kari. My prayers are with you.

Dinesh.

boohbah

Oh! that is a shame , fingers crossed . best wishes kari.

Tews

Thanks for the update Dinesh... this is sad news indeed, we will continue to keep Kari in our thoughts and prayers..

Arc

Though it is not a sort of good news , but many thanks for the update, as we all was eager .

At the same time , welcome back ! I hope there is everything kinda smooth (I understand that it is not so easy ) in your and your extended family .

johnwillyums

Thanks for the update Dinesh. Much appreciated. This sounds like a bad setback for Kari but I'm really hoping that that's all it is, a setback.
Sometimes these things take a long time to come back from.

+1.

Dwarf

That is indeed sad news.

One way or another, for some of our members (and they know who they are), this has been an Annus Horribilis. However, they have all pulled through and are back with us again.

We can only hope for the same outcome with Kari.

This is so sad.
On another note, I hope your girlfriend and her father are doing well Dinesh.

Arrrgh! I, like the rest of you, was sure hoping to hear good news ... not this.

Joan Archer

Same here Jacee, it's not the news any of us wanted to hear but medicine these days works wonders and I'm sure his strength of mind will get him through this.

Thank you for the update Dinesh, I know it's not the best time for you at the moment so it's especially good of you to go to the effort of finding out and posting the news to us, thank you.

A Guy

Will not think he will not be back this year. Only positive thoughts, and we will see him before too long. Only good karma, and good wishes. And hoping you are well to Dinesh. A Guy

The Howling Wolves

I agree with everyone here, that we owe Dinesh a big "Thank You" for keeping us updated on Kari, especially when Dinesh is going through troubled times himself.

We all wish Kari a quick recovery and for Dinesh to be strong for those around him.

Hear Hear very well put my friend,
What is a comforting thought is that the short return Kari had to seven forums gave him the knowledge that he is Missed, respected and loved by so many and that should help him cope with the slow recovery proccess

Kari you were really missed today!

We had a lady whose daughter is in the Peace Corps and wants to help someone by putting Spanish 7 on her laptop.

We didn't have our top language expert Kari here to advise her. There was such a void where I would normally PM you to get the info.

Brink ran a VM simulation trying to activate Spanish 7 with English Product key to confirm it's a no go.

We miss you a lot Kari! Please know that many of us here think of you every day and are looking forward to your return.

Dinesh

I received an email from Kari about an hour ago. I will quote a part of his email which is related to this thread.

Quote:
I had a third stroke, a really bad this time. It came as an surprise when recovering from the mild, second one, in a rehabilitation clinic. What saved my life is that I was surrounded by medical staff and doctors when it happened.
I was a couple of weeks in a very strange situation. Lying in the stroke unit in hospital, I was almost all the time conscious and aware of everything, but unable to communicate and almost completely paralyzed. After waking up, some 4 days after the stroke, I could see and hear, think and understand, but I didnt get a word out of my mouth. It was like living in a B-class, surrealistic road-movie; life and world goes on around me but I was not able to participate.

Ive been at home 10 days now. Im unable to move without help, even getting to wheelchair from bed I need help. Although therapy is going well, at least they keep telling me that, its going to take maybe months before I can cope alone. I am still almost completely unable to speak, especially German with Angie and English with my friends who come to see me. Strange enough, somehow the communication between my brain and mouth works better when I try to speak my native Finnish; it seems the Finnish words are at the moment easier for me to produce. I can think quite clearly, but to express myself, I need to write it with the trackball and on-screen keyboard to laptop screen, for Angie and / or a friend to read. The grip in my right hand is not strong enough to hold a pen or mouse, but it goes with trackball. Using my thumb, phone lying inThank God for Windows 7 Ease of Access-tools!

The thing that frightens me most is that my memory does not work as it should. I can remember things from last spring quite well, something from the summer but almost nothing since mid-August. Its like a two month wormhole in my brain. Last week or so I have been trying to get those memories back by reading through my old mails, text messages and postings on several forums.
It must have took more than an hour to type this email for him. I have also provided my new phone numbers to Kari and now we are able to communicate via SMS. So this thread will now be updated more often.

I wish him all the success in speedy recovery and better health.

Bare Foot Kid

Hello Kari, you are continually in my prayers; get well and keep looking up my friend!

It must feel awful Kari, not being able to communicate very well. Hello Kari I do not know you personally but have read numerous posts by you since I was a noob here (sometimes I think I still am). In my childhood I had to overcome physical disabilities learning to walk, ride a bike, even my speech was delayed but improved using the same will & determination you seem to have.

I along with other members who so eloquently stated await the triumphant return of their Official SevenForums "Reformed Newb Hugger"

Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

A Guy

Kari, I can only imagine how hard it must be to be unable to express yourself and do the things your mind is capable of. The fact that your mind is so sharp is a great advantage. It means your mental faculties are still there. The short term memory loss, while discouraging, is totally normal for someone in your position.

To see your email, which must have take patience and fortitude to compose is evidence of your willpower, and is exactly the type of effort that proves you will persevere and make your recovery necessary.

We're all pulling for you Kari, we want you to enjoy the company of your family and friends and know we will be able to see you posting here again. I wish you all the will and strength of mind you will need to accomplish your goals.

On the selfish side, we miss you, and want you back. Take care, hang in there, the 7F "family" is all rooting for you.

richc46

We appreciate the updates. You are in our thoughts and hearts Kari. We all look forward to your return.

Kari

Long story short, Im back. Not as often as before, not so many hours as before, and definitely writing shorter posts as before.

After three strokes in less than 8 weeks, my life ATM is only therapy in every possible form, and getting bored at home. Left side of my body is still almost useless but getting better, verbal communication is difficult because although I can think clearly in all languages I have to use (Finnish immigrant here in Germany, German wife and half German half English social networks around me), I have strange difficulties to form words in other than my native Finnish. According to my neurologist, my brain is almost undamaged (which greatly amuses my dear Angie!), so theres light at the end of the tunnel.

Ive been very surprised and moved to notice the amount of support Ive gotten from fellow geeks here on the Seven Forums. Emails, text messages etc. Please forgive me if I have not answered, and accept this as a universal Thank you! I also hope you can forgive me if I do not remember something or somebody, it seems Ive some difficulties to remember near past. The longer back I go in my memories, the better I can remember; problem is the near past. Before feeling me ready to come back here, I have read the forums and my own posts without logging in, to get a picture where and when I left you guys. Ive also read through all my emails and text messages from the past months, to me help me in this remembering process.

Im happy to be back. Thanks for your support.

Kari

P.S. Funny! I had to click Forgotten your password link before posting this. I had absolutely not a clue about my password J

But I really would like to install a laptop and a trackball to my Jazzy!

Kari,

You have just made an average day into a great day

I clicked on the thread to get the latest news on your condition and found your actual words - absolutely wonderful news indeed

As for your Jazzy - if it has a standard 12v or 24V Battery, you should be able to get some suitable inverter unit to provide AC mains power for your laptop - then you just plug in as you would as normal

12v Power Inverter - Compare Prices, Reviews and Buy at NexTag - Price - Review

Keep working on the recovery my friend

The statins and Dipyridamole are what's going to keep you alive and Angie Happy.
The whiskey will impair your vision and eye/hand coordination for your trackball.

If I were anywhere near you, I would come over and get you a trackball mouse installed into the armrest of that chair for you, and a little table for the laptop that you can fold up or down.

Of course, you could also just duct tape it in place on the arm rest!

From the owners manual it shows it has two 12v batteries but the charger puts out 24v so I assume the batteries are in series to give 24v. May be able to find an inverter with 24v input but may not be common. Also need to find a way to mount the laptop. Lets put our thinking caps on and see what we can come up with. Use of Duck Tape is optional but not preferred.

This FAQ is fun. Here is some awesome info on converters: Inverter FAQ - DonRowe.com - Frequently Asked Questions about Power Inverters

Kari, having read your post I see that you have been through a horrendous time most recently, all I can say is that I wish you a very speedy recovery back to health.

Barman58

The 2x12V batteries in series to give 24V is the European standard for a lot of larger vehicles such as trucks and buses so the 24v Input invertor should not be too hard to find

Kari, so very pleased to see you posting here. You were truly missed, and I think you understand that we hold you in high regard (with our without duck tape!). Take care, and keep up the good work on your recovery.

Doc, judging from your avatar you need to come back to the future. That's too far in the past!

Welcome back, Kari. I haven't had the pleasure until now, and I see what I have been missing out on

Kari

Welcome back Kari - made my day!

Arc

Thanks, Greg and others. Really nice to be back, although it seems I've forgotten so much I am not able to help others so much.

I use this opportunity to answer those mails and other messages asking me to come back to Messenger and / or Skype. I'm typing so slowly at the moment, and my speech is almost impossible to understand, that it's not possible. I'll "see" you guys online when it's possible.

It is just so good to see you back. Post when you can and when you feel like. We understand.

Kari

I was in another thread when I first saw a post from you Kari and I can't tell you how happy it made me feel that you were back with us posting again.

It doesn't matter how often you post just knowing that you are on the road to recovery is enough for us all here so once again a very big hug and welcome back.

Once again, thank you geeks!

I'm getting quite fast with trackball & on-screen keyboard, but am already keenly waiting when I can type normally. It's not so easy to spontaniously post some obnoxious and arrogant comments when you click letters one by one

Kari,
I was waiting for you to say "obnoxious and arrogant comments!"
Now I know I can have fun with you again.
So glad you didn't lose you sense of humor.

But Dennis, with you, in my current a bit disabled situation, I need some handicap. Let's say 2 to 1: We call it even when I only insult you once for every two of your insults

Deal?

Kari,
Let the games begin...............I will start slow and be nice for awhile.
I know that sounds shocking but I am so damned glad to have you back so it will take me a while to brush up on being obnoxious and arrogant.
Got stuff to do today but our GAME IS ON!!

Kari,
I just noticed a recent post by you. Made my day!

Welcome back! And rest awhile ... we (well, some of us -- OK, me) need a head start before sparring with you verbally.
You are clearly in top form. Good to see.
