Hi all, I know there has been alot of benchmarking threads on here and if this is in the wrong spot please forgive me
Just wanted to share some screen shots on my card and the benchmarks it got vs the guru 3d site im sure the driver has been modified since then im useing 11.3 right now
The first pic is the guru site and the second is my score , I wish i could run a i79xx chip but im not willing to spend that much anyway comments and other benches are welcome
so please post you BENCHMARKS !

Anyone have results they want to share?
I think It would be better if it wasn't just limited to a 6870. Not everyone has that card, let alone a 6000 series card.
Anyway you've seen my score before - Which ATI 6950?

That bench really spins up the fans.
I thought this thread was only for the red team

Not bad for a single Nvidia 460 with no OC.

my 2x6870's give the following results, using the 11.4 preview driver:
- assuming we have the same basic test settings..
- mine's running at 1600x900 widescreen
- this result is without any OC at all..
- she ran the test very smoothly and remarkably quiet, too..

I just re-did my benches and this is what i got now,not bad I don't think could be better
Anyway interesting scores smarteyeball.
BTW here my 6950 crossfire score when I had a temporary setup as posted here - Which ATI 6950?
It's certainly crossfire /SLI friendly. I thought had some 5970 benches for comparison, but I'm buggered if I can find them
I just used the newer one and did one more and here is the results man it keeps getting better
2.0 vs 2.5 versions i need to x-fire then maybe i'll be with the big boys
smartey your gtx580 is one hell of a card how much did that run you if you don't mind me asking

That's a big jump. I'll have to install the update and see what I get.
yeah that had me smilling even though this is a decent card i felt i could do better ,you know budget comes into play as well
Im scared to see how high yours will go I can tell you this benchmark ran alot smoother then 2.0 that i was useing

The ole we've never seen this one before warning. Used to link provided here, and downloaded it from 2 different servers. Hmmm.......
it did me like that too but took a chance it is not a WQHL driver that is why i assume
I installed it it kept giving me options, at first i decided not to but went for it worse comes to worse i can just re do my machine and make it better

Well I might as well join in this one.

that score looks off a little if you look at page 2 there is a poster that gave varies resolutions and one of them was 1900x1200 - and it was a little higher take into mind the guy was useing a 580 gxt ----still looks good though

BTW here my 6950 crossfire score when I had a temporary setup as posted here - Which ATI 6950?
- was that with stock timings on the card?
BTW - which driver were you running back then, 'cos the 11.4 preview is a doozy with the 6*** series..
- might be worth benchmarking to the 2.5 version of Unigine,
- be cool to see what the effects of W7's SP1 are, too..
- wonder what made the Min FPS blip low like that..??
PS that 5*** series result is no fluke either, I've seen some amazingly high scores with those cards
they might thrash a bit, but AMD were right to tout them as the fastest in the world..!!

It is clean.
That is what I used in my v2.5 I posted earlier.
The security is tighter on downloads with IE9 and with its newer updates.
That was the third flagged download the last couple of weeks for me that I know were safe.
Mike
Well here's my score after upgrading to Heaven 2.5......
Here's the one with version 2.2.....
BTW it's kind of hard to compare scores since people are using different resolutions. I think a standard res of 1280x1024 should be used to compare scores to one another. With that....
Note that all of these are using the same drivers. Cats 11.4 preview (the fist ones).
And yeah Mike you're right about the false positive IE9 gives

Sygnus
That is strange yours went down....but then the v2.5 was updated for the Nvid 500's and the ATI 6000's.
So I guess it is more accurate.???
Your 12xx X 10xx res makes sense except on wide screen.
My 1400x900 would be sort of comparable that I posted. So I don't feel bad with my 460's results.
I have read that games look better on equal monitors except if one is 2ms response time and another 5ms for example.
I always wondered how much if any the millisecond response time rating has on benchmarks?
I know resolution goes up frame rate drops. That makes sense it has to make a larger image.
It would make sense response time is lower for same resolution the frame rate would increase.
Not a big deal just a hmmm? curiosity moment.

Well I do have a 6000 series video card (6950). In fact I never used Heaven until I got my card as discussed here - Which ATI 6950?

Ive gone threw and looked at some of my setting I see I have work to do to tweak this card and my mobo.
But this that said here is a base line with res at 1280x1024 using cat 11.3
Still have some work to do and to mess with the second bois on the card too.

You score is more in line with mine at that resolution as we both have 6950 2gig cards.
Now if everyone here used the same resolution (1280x1024) for comparision purposes we'd have a better idea of how our cards compare/should compare to one another.
Thanks for sharing.

But after all the constant frustration I had with my 5970, it's been worth every damn penny. What I've lost in raw FPS, I've made up for practically everywhere else. Overall, it's just a better gaming experience.
It's far smoother, far less glitchy and so damn quiet.
1280x1024
As for these benchmarks, they should be taken for what they are - a bit of fun.
@ smarteyeball, what'd you do with the 5970? Sell it? Just curious - (no I don't want it)
BTW the last time I paid that much for a card was in 2003 when I bought an ATI All in Wonder 9800Pro for 427.69
Anyway nice card and damn good numbers
@ IownAmoneyPit, same with you nice numbers.
Glad to see everyone using a standard we can compare to.
Thanks
And dang, my little ole 6950 is getting left in the dust

ran 'em again at 1280x1024
that one was with the basic settings as before..
this one's with everything in sight maxed to the hilt..
- not much difference..
- no need to worry about playing games at ultra-max..
- the native res of my monitor is 1600x900, so I assume it's more "efficient" at that setting
- at least the circles stay round and all that.. heh, heh..!!

I see they're pretty much the same which says there isn't too much of a performance hit. Nice.
All of you have peaked my curiosity I am going to give ver. 2.5 a try. Thanks BugMeister
I'll never buy another x2 card again. They're just too much of a pita.
I'm not ruling out going SLI/Crossfire with the next gen cards, but for now I'm very happy with this card and getting back to 'single GPU' basics.
I had a buyer lined up for it, but the deal fell through
I'll offload it eventually.

here's my results from 1280/1024

First is in the normal, second I turned the settings up a tad. Both done on standard clocks and in crossfireX
Will try it with the cards OC'd a bit and see what happens

We kind of agreed that for "comparisions" sake we'd use a "standard" res of 1280x1024 to compare scores.

fair enough, will give that res a bash and see what the scores come out with.
Not bad if I do say so myself
Not bad at all. What cards are those - your specs don't say, and the hardware section just tells me they're 6800 series cards. So.... 6850's of 6870's?
They look like 6870 CF scores
They are a pair of 6870 MSI OC twin Frozr II's. That last score was with the cores at 950 and the memory at 1150 with standard voltage. Unfortunatley due to the AB not liking DX11 games in crossfire I can't turn the voltage up.
those are some nice cards /crossfire looks nice i have the diamond hd6870 clocked 975/1215 I just oc'ed my cpu yesterday to 3.7 up from 3.4 slight performance bump ......
Im still waiting on swapping boards and ram as well see if i can get a better score
Im still useing DDR2
Hehe.... I played with a crossfire setup (a pair 6950's) for a weekend. Had to have my 6950 replaced so Amazon sent the replacement before the other card had to be returned - Which ATI 6950?
Anyway I thought about getting another 6950 but in the end decided against it as I didn't want the hassle a crossfire setup can sometimes bring. It's nice when they work though
BTW note how close they sit on my Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5

thats one of the reasons Im kinda against crossfire lack of spacing and the bridge connector is like 1 inch long lol if they come with a bridge that can give you atleast one slot between them both would be awesome
you know what i mean more air less fry ....none the less it looks pretty sexy when it works right and no botched drivers like we been getting in the past
Well actually my fear is more performance related than spacing. Though with the X58A-UD5 space would be a concern as well. However I could have used the last X8 lane PCIe slot for better spacing.....
But I wanted to use both the X16 lanes.
Also I didn't need two bridge connectors as shown. One would have worked. Rookie mistake

ATI released new drivers so I thought I would benchmark them against each other. Nothing crazy to say about them but did get a small 2 fps up in the new set lol.
I have been reading the threads on the Heaven benchmarking , just thought you may be intrested in my scores for the resolutions of 1920x1080 and 1280x1024. both with the latest ccc drivers

just tried the 11.4c hotfix, and got these results:
a slight narrowing of the overall fps band..
up slightly on the min, but down a bit on the max..
fraction higher over all..

Hi guys, thanks! All clocks on those benchmarks where stock 6970 with no oc , that new 11.4 driver seems to have made a big difference to the 6900 cards.
That is a good score for the 6870 cards BugMeister.
Time to play around and see what i can get out of the cards at 1280x1024 res, will keep you all posted

Any that's how I do it, just uninstall and install the new ones. Lately though I've just been installing over existing ones, but I usually only do this if the driver is a hotfix.
That's me.
Ive always just upgraded my ATI drivers over top of the existing installation and never had a issue myself ..
If going to the next release I/E 10.2 -- > 10.3
If rolling back, for whatever reason, I just uninstall with ATIs Express uninstaller, Reboot, and install whichever CCC Im wanting to use.
This is however with my ATI card which reminds me of a interesting point.
Since my new card is going to be a Nvidia card (EVGA 570 SC which should be here by end of next week)
Im wondering what the best means of cleaning out all ATI GPU related stuff before I switch to Nvidia?
If this uninstall method as Ive always done will be all thats needed , or,
ATI express uninstall then run Driver Sweeper in safe mode?
Or someone have a better suggestion

I have always deleted the old drivers first using the catalyst install manager then reinstalled the new ones. that has always worked for me .
Wishmaster , cccleaner and driver sweeper in safe mode will work just fine

Thats pretty much what I was planning to do.
Ive upgraded cards in that manner before, and never had a issue, although its just been an upgrade of same brand.
I just wasnt sure if Changing from ATI->Nvidia may be a bit different issue.

I don't think so, but ever since 3DFX was bought out by Nvidia years back I've always been with ATI.
Good luck.

Well guys , I think i licked the issue
I went and uninstalled the drivers and rebooted then used driversweeper then reboot
After all the nonsense i went on to install 11.4 here is what i got
Diamond Hd 6870 none Oc'ed and then the second one clocks bumped up to 975/1200

out of pure interest i did the benchmark on my old computer, my main machine is err laying in peices in a box right now since i blew a few things on it
q6600
4gb ddr2 1066 ocz reaper
ati 4870 1gb
gigabyte ep35c
native resolution for me is 1920x1080 for both monitors so i did max settings here
medium settings here
and 1280x1024
interesting from a comparison point of view if you look at older cards to new cards and what we gain and lose.
also tesselation disabled...tbh i don't think the 4870 can do it i'll see if i can turn it on later

whenever I want to completely eradicate my ATI drivers, I use this guide:
TweakGuides.com - ATI Catalyst Tweak Guide
'bout halfway down the page, it tells you how to scrub everything out..
- it's an excellent guide to the ATI settings as well..

Thought Id run this benchmark on my 4890 as a comparison.
1280x1024 (Tesselation OFF)
1920x1080 (Tesselation OFF)
Not too bad, but it starts to really choke w/AA and Im guess Teselation would choke it as well, if it was capable.

wow, that's amazin', Crazymike..
especially given it's @ 1920x1080 res..
wonder if it'd increase at 1280x1024..

Yes, Im really loving it so far.
I made a thread in the GPU section showing some Metro benchies and a comparison w/my old 4890 for those interested in that sort of stuff.
Still getting used to the software/Control Panel etc.
Ive become so comfortable with ATIs CCC, its a bit strange still.
Not too bad, but a few extar things or things named slightly different. Will just take a bit to get used to.

Hi guys, here is some scores on a mild overclock of my 6950. Had them a month now and still running well. Very pleased with how there running
Sure, here you go.
oops - sorry, Crazymike..

no overclocking..
slight reduction in overall score - the min/max fps band has widened
- it runs the test very smoothly, though..

Ambient Occlusions is killer, but it makes games look sick. It's too bad ATI's don't have the option in the driver CP. I'll have to remember to test with all 3 settings. For all the tests I already put up it was set to quality.
To be able to more evenly compare cards, I'll also throw up settings. Without those it's difficult to compare cards. My personal preference is to go for the highest quality, so it would be interesting to see what others have theirs at given the huge impact drivers make on benches.
**edit**
lol @ "just".

As for graphic settings most users just use the standard settings so that wasn't an issue, just the resolution.

Did you have to move the power slider to +20? And how's the fan speed and temps?
Thanks

Rgr that on 1280... I'll do that... didn't catch your earlier posts.
I don't mean the test settings that matter, I mean individual driver settings in the control panel. They can sway the test radically. We need to figure out what driver settings most closely resemble each other.
The temps idle at just over 40c and running MSI Kombustor they have hit 92c.
The variation in the temps is down to the UD5 Motherboard, the 16 pcie slots are very close so the top card gets about 6c hotter.

As for testing the card via the video card's control panel we can do that but then you'd have readings all over the place. Since we're just comparing, the easier and standard way would be to just just standard settings at a standard res.
That's my way thinking but........
For example, if I have my drivers set to performance, then I'm going to be faster than someone else who has theirs set on quality, even if we have the same everything.
If you're using driver optimizations for textures and filtering, then someone who's not, like me, isn't going to be able to put up the same numbers... without some form of agreement on driver settings, independent of Unigine, the test is skewed.
For example, there is no ATI setting for Ambient Occlusions. Nvidia has 3 settings. There's a performance hit almost as great as 2xAA if enabled. Likewise for texture and filter optimizations, although the hit isn't as great... but still... it's a hit.
We need a baseline.

I tested my gts450 on the settings as you and got a score of 504. To slightly improve the score you could crank up your clock settings but in real game play life is adjusting the settings going to make much difference? I personally would say no.

I already have the files from TechPowerUp, I've just been hesitant to do the flash because I don't I'm worried about the extra noise and temps it may bring, especially if I have to play with the power tune settings, which I don't really want to have to do.
I notice a lot of people flash the card, than overclock from there; I just want to flash the card and leave it as is - not overclock after the flash.
I do a bit more research and make a decision soon.
Thanks

When you do, I'll be right here waiting to go another round. Flashing vs Precision Tools sounds like another fair fight to me.
Anyway I'll post results if I do it, though I don't intend to overclock the card, just flash it.
Later.
I was able to clock the card to 850MHz core, but decided to stick with the defaults because I didn't see games getting faster; they were already fast enough at the settings I like.
However, if given the proper motivation...
However, if given the proper motivation...
We'll see. As I said Im kind of hesitant to flash mines as I like where it's at right now - noise, temps, performance wise. However curiosity is starting to get the better of me now
I know... I was real tempted to flash my 5850, and I still might, one day, but man if it doesn't go right, or if I happen to have one of those cards that isn't up to it... Scary stuff.

Those settings on mine are all standard 6970 with no overclocks and that is what i have done most of my benching on, i have found it is just the new drivers that have made the differnce and overclocking them makes little change to the fps.
And all so i have found that there is not much change in the temps or increased noise. The only time the cards become realy noisy is when you run the benches and push the cards to there max, but other than that they are fine.
I play shift 2 on mine and the max temp was about 70c and fan speed went to about 50%.
I just have to make a few alterations to my case cooling to get more air to that top card, other than that i have had the cards for a while now and have had no problems.
I have yet to post my results cause i am baffled that my card scored really high the first test
Now each test after that goes down little by little it is kinda frustrating to see this
I am working on it though and when i am satisfied enough i will produce something for you guys

That's pretty much been the case with every benchmark I've ever done unless I make a change to the hardware, like clocking up. It's all downhill after that first one, lol... but that's ok, I think everyone here has run enough to realize what's going on; besides, it's not like the scores are dropping that much, are they?
they kinda are it has droped a good 12 points
It should't matter as long as my games play stutter free and also im not using a 6900 series so im not expecting it to be near but the first test rendered me 134.1 frames now it has gone to 119.1
Even restart nothing running im baffled

pfff... lol. 12 points is insignificant to the point of being meaningless. By the way you were talking I though the drop was a few hundred points... which you can manipulate just through driver settings.
Set your drivers to performance. I'm sure you'll get it all back, and then some.

yeah i been messing around with the settings seeing if i can get it back otherwise i can go back to the 11.5
Also i figure with new drivers every two months i would think the benchmarking program would need some newer updates too ,or i could be talking out my you know what ...
But im wondering is there a newer version of the benchmark available ?

Well, that's sorta the way it goes with benchmarking apps. There's always one set of drivers that gives the best results. I know the 275.33's don't, but there's no way I'd revert to an older set just to get a better score in a benchmark. Like you said, the only thing that really counts is how well your games play... this is just for shits and giggles.

Only gained 4-5 points
Noise and temps are about the same though. We'll see how it goes as in about a week though.

I was afraid for your card... but it looks like it turned out well. How's gaming performance?
Right now I'm playing FEAR 3 all maxed out (it's a DX11 game) and it's running without any stuttering or slowdowns, though I'm not sure the game is a system tasker.
So far the card hasn't acted up but like I said before, I'm not overclocking it, just using the 6970 BIOS. I've also done no tweaks in the CCC control panel.
All is good thus far

Here is mine, this bench test looks amazing. My card didn't even break a sweat. Fans kicked in though to keep my gpu temps below 65C

We kind of decided early on that a standard resolution of 1280x1024 would be used for comparison purposes - hd 6870 Unigine Heaven Post your score !
BTW nice scores guys, especially at the higher res. Mines needs work, and I have a 2gig card
Thanks Sygnus, but I'm not sure why yours needs work, it certainly beats mine.

@ essenbe, I'm talking about the higher resolutions, @ 1920x1080 I get 44 frames. Maybe they are in line for that res, just looks a little low to me.
@ solarstarshines, I don't have a crossfire setup. I've heard, read, (can't confirm, never had one) about too many issues with Crossfire/SLI to be going through that headache. Plus I don't feel like dealing with the added heat.

Well I went Ahead and Crossfired Two differrent AMD cards same make but Different Brand names
Main Gpu Diamond hd6870 930/1120 Second Gpu Msi Twin frozer hd6870 920/1120
After a few failed attempts to get a solid Benchmark i finally got the clock to behave at above speeds
regular clock speed for a Hd 6870 is 800/1050
Im actually Happy with the Numbers but what do you guys think ?

here you go the max settings my computer can do becasue of monitor (1280x1024 max.) and one bad stick of mem but i don't think that would change any thing running 12gb unstead of 16gb. and cpu is over clocked to 4.0 GHz.
Nice scores, Mark369.
Is this ok?

There is no reason to show max settings we used variables to every setting there was i just never did 1920/1080 simple because there is no need to
Im also in turn about to purchase a pair of Hd7950's in a few weeks comming up then ill post some results lol but im still debating

- unless you want to make a statistical comparison..
Exactly and I'm not everyone else running 1920/1080 all the time
That is only for watching movies
I play games on 1680/1050 so it makes no difference to me I know my set up will still run on that resolution fine
Crossfire HD7970
Nice scores, Tommy. I know you are happy now...at least for a little while.
