Running fresh install of 7 x64 ultimate. Was having lots of BSOD. Was told they were driver issues. Updated drivers and computer was running fine. Shut down computer for a couple hours and when I turned it back on I got another BSOD. Can someone please debug this dump and let me know what caused it?
Thanks for your help

Hello,
Uninstall ASUS ATK0110 ACPI Utility/AISuite Utilities/ASUS PC Probe as they are a known cause of BSOD w/ Win 7.
Update your Graphics Driver - here
Do a Memtest86+ and run for at least 7 passes (6-8 hours): RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Do a sfc /scannow
Do a Disk Check
Lastly, run a HDD Test (using SeaTools)

How do I uninstall something that's not installed?
I have already run memtest for 5 passes with no errors.
I ran the disk check already and it came back with no errors
I don't have a seagate hard drive. its western digital. does that matter?

Still run SeaGate HDD Tool please.
ONLY FOR THE ASACPI.SYS!!
Look in Add and Remove Program Utility found in Control Panel.
or
Rename the driver from .SYS to .BAK (found in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers)

Do a repair install
After shutting down the computer for the night I am getting massive amounts of BSOD in safe mode and normal mode. Sometimes it makes it all the way into windows and loads up but then BSOD after a couple minutes. Here are the dumps.
mgorman87, why did you start a new thread?
Here:
http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...ml#post1284852
As long as you are having the BSODs you should of kept the train of thought here in this thread.
Here are some steps to try for the atikmdag.sys problem I saw in your "New" thread:
atikmdag stopped responding and has recovered...
Now we have to bounce between two threads to see how you made out with Maguscreed's advice about running Memtest.

Because I thought this was gonna get lost in the threads. I already ran memtest and it came back with no errors after 5 passes
Do a repair install as requested.
In the process of doing that now
Ok. Repair install complete. Is there something I need to do after?
Edit: I re-ran the system file check and it reports that there are no integrity violations now.

Ok so again the computer runs fine after doing the fixes. Then once it sits for a couple hours it BSOD right after the loading screen. It didn't dump to the hard drive because it hadn't loaded into windows yet. I tried running the windows repair and it said something was missing and gave a code of 0xc00000f. I also got a STOP 0x7e and 0x7f
Run System Repair again.
Try booting into Safe Mlde with Networking

Even if you ran memtest, it looks like a hardware issue., possibly mem, or some other piece of hardware.
If it was memory wouldn't it show up in the memtest? Also, there's nothing hooked up to the computer so it's either a bad mobo, cpu, memory or hard drive.
I ran a check disk from the ultimate boot disk and it found errors and fixed them. My question is, why does letting the computer sit for a couple errors cause the system integrity to become corrupt?
I am unable to get into windows to run the repair again. I've gotten two STOP 0x7e, a STOP 0x1a and a stop 0x3b. For some reason it's not writing mini dumps even though its enabled. Also, when I try to do the repair from the boot menu it says "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible. Status: 0xc000000f"
So I pulled the hard drive and hooked it up to another computer to attempt to get the dumps off of it (there were none). I went back to the computer, cleared the BIOS with the mobo jumpers and hooked the hard drive back up. It booted into windows and so far no BSOD (cross fingers). It created a new dump from the last crash that I would like someone to look at. I also, before the last time i shut down, changed ASACPI.sys to .bak. The next time I booted up it wouldn't work so I switched it back to .sys. I am so baffled as to why this computer crashes after being off but once its on it runs fine.
Could this be hard drive related? Wat if by having the hard drive hooked up to my computer it warms it up and when I hook it back up to the host computer it works fine but when it sits idle for a couple hours and cools off and I attempt to boot it up it wont boot? Is this heard of?

Could a bad sata cable cause bsod's?
Sure, but what leads you to believe you have a bad cable?
I do not know about the other members that are trying to help you, but I need more information about what you have on your system to balance what I am seeing in your .dmp reports.
The easiest way to know would be for you to fill out your SystemSpecs.
From you other thread: I ran it 5 passes with no errors but I will do it again to make sure Have you run memtest again? Some members suggest to run it for 8 or more passes
The cdd.dll ( cdd!vGDIDirtyUpdate+33 ) that is listed first is making me think this is memory and graphics related.
Can you update your video drivers? Do you have memory on your video card?
I would also like to see a stress test on your video card, you can use these tools:
This for a baseline: ATITool - Overclocking utility for ATI and NVIDIA cards
Then:GPU-Z Video card GPU Information Utility

In order to know what you have in/on your machine these tools are handy, and listed in no particular order:
Speccy - System Information - Free Download
Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit
I am going to have to update my copy, but I use Everest also, and it has been upgraded to AIDA64.
This Everest link EVEREST Ultimate Edition - PC Diagnostics | Lavalys.com will redirect you to here:
AIDA64 | PC Benchmark | System Diagnostics | Network Inventory
Unfortunatly I will no longer suggest Everest/AIDA64 because I could not find a free version for it!
CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting
I would really like to see a report from here:
GPU-Z Video card GPU Information Utility
Posting ScreenShots:
Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums
I would also like to know if you built this machine yourself or if it was manufactured by:
* ABS Computer Technologies* Acer* eMachines* Gateway* Packard Bell* Apple* Dell* Alienware* Gateway* Gericom* Gigabyte* Hewlett-Packard* Compaq* VoodooPC * Hitachi* IBM....etc....etc...

I'm seeing bad pool headers and memory corruption.
Did dean have you check the memory?
RAM - Test with Memtest86+
It should run for 5 to 7 passes, it will take a bit of time.

Can you update your video drivers? Do you have memory on your video card?
I would also like to see a stress test on your video card, you can use these tools:
This for a baseline: ATITool - Overclocking utility for ATI and NVIDIA cards
Then:GPU-Z Video card GPU Information Utility
So I got a couple more BSOD dumps. After about 5 BSOD the computer boot into windows. I have not run memtest again. Once I can get into Windows the computer runs fine. It's only after the computer is off for a couple hours that I get BSOD when I boot it back up. I believe I have the latest video drivers. I could not get the stress test to work. It says the driver isn't verified and that I can only install verified drivers. Is there a way to turn that off. I am also going to attach the screen shots you requested. This computer is a friends of mine. He built it himself about 8 months ago and has never been able to get it running. It gave him issues from the start.
Everything is on-board. The video card has it's own memory (128mb DDR3 1333).
It just boggles my brain as to why the computer runs without hiccups once its up and running but letting it sit off for a couple hours is causing BSOD when you turn it back on.

Asus
M4A785TD-V EVO With onboard video
This seems to be either VGA driver issue or corrupt onboard (but I don't think so)
Go to the site, get the latest divers, uninstall old drivers reboot and install new ones.
HERE IS THE BEST BET.
(If you don't understand what you are doing, don't do it).
If you want to really do a clean install of vid drivers, Download Gpuclean put the command in the root of the C drive. Uninstall old drivers reboot in safe mode, run gpuclean as instructed on web site
Before you reboot, go to the device manager and uninstall vga by right clic/properties/uninstall driver. Reboot, install lates AMD drivers
Here are the latest from AMD
HERE
You can also test the drivers (big issues often are either drivers or mem)
Driver Verifier (How to)
OK, this is something that is very hard to find. If you try to shoot in the dark all the time, you will get aggravated and you still won't find the issue.
For the hardware, unplug all cd, dvd drives, all other hardware except the main hard drive
For the ram, if you can make the machine work with one stick at a time, try that, or better yet, swap the ram if you have some spare.
Go in run window type Msconfig.
In the first tab Choose select startup
In the services tab, choose hide Microsoft services and un check all the other ones.
In the fourth tab Startup, programs un check all boxes except anything that mentions MS.
Reboot play with the sys for a while.
If nothing, go back to Msconfig, and add a program with it's service one
at a time rebooting and testing.
This will tell you if you have software issues.

So as a precaution I ran memtest for 25 passes (lol) and had no errors. I only have one stick of memory and I don't have any extra lying around so I cant swap anything. I was going to try and take my video card from my computer and stick it in this one and see if the problem still continues but I will try your suggestions first and report back.'
Edit: So I did that Gpuclean and uninstalled the drivers and now it won't let me install the ATI drivers. It tells me there's nothing installed and under device manager the display adapter says Standard VGA Grahpics Adapter. I also got another BSOD after uninstalling the display adapter
Edit2: I don't have anything under the services except for the video card control center
Edit3: I can't install any video drivers. I took my video card from my computer and put it in and it won't recognize it. I also got a BSOD from driver verifier after trying to install the video drivers from the asus website

There is definitly a mem issue and a driver driver issue.
Something in that machine (either hardware or driver) is the cause. Now tell me how you removed the vid drivers step by step please.
I also saw a csrss.exe which some associate with viruses but it also happens when the system is haywire because of hardware or drivers.
Try another vid card and disable onboard just to see.

I ran memtest for 25 passes with no errors. could it be the video memory or is it system memory?
Please don't add info to a post you replied. We won't be able to follow you.
Like I mentioned, Memtest is not fullproof.
You need to answer questions or users won't want to help.
It's hard troubleshoot a machine when you aren't in front.
You have no system specs indicated which in itself is tough enough.
Please tell me what you did about video drivers?

I ran gpuclean, uninstalled video device and then rebooted into safemode and tried to reinstall video drivers and it wouldn't work. I'm doing a system repair to see if it fixes it

Device Clean Boot
________________________
Click Start, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Search bar and press Enter.
Expand "Sound, video and game controllers".
Right click on your sound card and then click "Properties.
In the dropdown menu of Device Usage, please choose "Do not use this device (disable)" and click OK.
Use the same method to disable other dubious hardware such as: internal modem, network card and CD-R drive.
Please note some devices such as video adapter are not available to be disabled.
so how do I correct it? should the system repair fix it?
To be honest, You have so much issues,
I would do a clean install, no drivers except INF file after install and the latest AMD drivers for onboard video. No sound drivers, nothing. let the machine run.
If you don't have crashes, then the mem is not affected and it driver issue.

this is a fresh install. doing the system repair corrected the video issue
I had already done that and it didnt fix the problem

Also, did you install INF chipset drivers when you did a clean install before anything else?

Ok. So I installed my video card into the computer and installed the latest video drivers. I shut down the computer for around 4 hours. When I came home I turned it on and as soon as it got to the windows loading screen it BSOD. The first time it was 0x7F. I restarted the computer and booted again. At the same spot it BSOD. This time it was 0x7E. I restarted again. Same spot it BSOD. This time it was 0x19. I restarted it one more time and again at same spot it BSOD. This time it was 0x7E. After the fourth one I turned off the computer with the switch on the PSU. I unplugged the hard drive power and sata cable and then plugged it back in. I turned the computer back on and it booted into windows without any BSOD and I'm on it right now typing this. I've run multiple hard drive tests and they all pass. Would this be motherboard related?
Yes it could be but you have to run the tests that a lot of people gave you.
I just turned the computer back on after having it off a couple hours and this time it made it to the windows welcome screen and BSOD. I did it twice and both times it gave 0x1E and I was able to get system dumps. I then shut off the computer, unplugged the power and sata cable from the hard drive, plugged it back in and booted up the computer. It booted into windows and is running fine.
I'm also running driver verifier fyi if that helps reading the dumps
mgorman, first of all I want to thank you for filling out your System Specs.
I would like to concentrate on the memory that is installed on your machine, and rule it out once and for all.
All of your stop errors are related to memory and/or the way the memory is handled.
From the way you describe the symptoms the system is not handling the release of memory when it is being shutdown, and occasionally it affects startup.
I notice in the one CPU-Z-SPD tab report here That the stick is installed in slot#3. Have you tried running this stick in any of the other three remaining slots?
And, if you did not rotate the stick as suggested here under Technical Information in Troubleshooting Memory Errors while running the memtest86 your test results are inconclusive.
I ask this because one MB I had was very particular where the memory was installed, and it took me several hours before I found the right combination and the MB would run properly.
If you have kept this stick in slot#3 the entire time we have been trying to troubleshoot, here is what I want you to do.
Remove the stick, and install it in slot#1.
Use the machine like you have described; with the rebooting after an hour, several hours, and/or immediately after you make the change, and observe the result, does it increase/eliminate the BSODs or no change?
Then try slot#2, and #4 in the same manner, and observe the result.
Please post back on your findings.
There is also a distinct possibility that your MB will have trouble in running only one stick of ram.
Crucial, the memory company is ambiguous on whether or not your MB requires a matched set of ram. See here
In the Manufacturer Specs section it states: But, a little lower it states: Although Windows 7 can run on one 2GB stick of memory I feel your machine is being starved for ram. it is like putting a two barrel carburetor on an automobile racing engine, and until you can obtain another stick of G.SKILL 1x2GB DDR3-1333 or a matched set of at least 4GB from a friend or family member this issue of stop errors will never go away.

In the Manufacturer Specs section it states:
Quote:
Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.
Quote:
Q: Do I have to install matching pairs?
A: No.
No, you can install modules one at a time, and you can mix different densities of modules in your computer. But if your computer supports dual-channel memory configurations, you should install in identical pairs (preferably in kits) for optimal performance.
Q: Does my computer support dual-channel memory?
A: Yes.
To benefit from the performance advantages offered by dual-channel systems, you should install memory in identical pairs. Installing a kitted pair is the best way to ensure that your modules are identical, right down to the chip count.

I would like to concentrate on the memory that is installed on your machine, and rule it out once and for all.
All of your stop errors are related to memory and/or the way the memory is handled.

Does the memory that I have need to be listed on the list of compatible memory for the motherboard or is that not important?
Also, I ran Hot CPU tester and the Complex Matrix test returned an error that said cpu (0) checksums do not match and then I ran it again and it said cpu (1) checksums do not match? I can upload the log when I get home from work.
Do my symptoms have anything to do with a bad CPU?
EDIT: I also noticed that the memory I have is rated as DDR3 1600 (800 MHz) yet it is only running at DDR3 1333 (667 MHz).
I came across this thread. It explains exactly the problem im having.

It states that certain ASUS motherboards have issues with G.Skill memory where you get BSOD on cold boots. I am going to purchase a pair of corsair memory (same speed) and see if the problem continues.

I am hoping for a good outcome!

It has a 500W PSU and I have nothing installed in the computer except for HDD and memory. I will test it though and report back.

I have instructed him to keep the dialog here in this thread. If it is okay with him, it is okay with me if we disclose what we discussed in that PM.
Personally I would feel better if we did. Essentially it consisted of a discussion about his recent link here, and here.

This is what was discussed in the PM's to keep everyone following on the same page

I would appreciate it if we did not continue troubleshooting here in the PMs, this is not what it was designed for.

Well a dual set of mem, split and a noted issue with the Gskill should be the first attempt to fix because, right then and there that is an issue. Unless that is corrected, to see if it solves the issue, the more you run in circles.
Troubleshooting a computer is to follow each step carefully to rule out a possible issue.
I had a whole bunch of BSOD's. I thought it was a bad USB 3 but it wasn't. It was a bad video card. Now, I don't have any issues.
That is why if try to find a problem and you are already have a piece of hardware not running within specs or that piece has a history of problems, fix that first to rule it out.

the psu checked out ok. I should receive the memory this week and will report back
Good move.
Ok so I got the new memory and installed it and when I turned on the computer after being off for a couple days I got a BSOD. This time a driver was listed. I rebooted the computer and it booted into windows. I was on it for like 5 minutes surfing the web and it just restarted with no BSOD. I then went into the BIOS and turned the memory timings back to stock. They were currently set to 9-9-9-24, 800MHz and 1.65V which is the stock settings for this RAM. I reboot the computer and it gave me another BSOD with the same driver listed. I restarted the computer again and it booted into windows. Can someone please look at these dump files and tell me whats causing the crash now. thanks
So I ran memtest again and on the 1 pass on the 5th test it reported back 300 errors. I had the memory installed in the two slots closet to the CPU. I took the stick in slot 2 and put it in slot 3 and am re-running the tests. Can a bad motherboard cause memory errors like that?
EDIT: With the sticks in slots 1 and 3 it didn't error on test 5. I will let it run though for 7-8passes

Is the ram your using on the asus compatibility list ?

No. It's not. But I searched the net and saw that people who had my motherboard and purchased it said it worked fine.

did you test your PSU under load as switch-mode power supplies can drop under load and as the windings break down ?
did you test your PSU under load as switch-mode power supplies can drop under load and as the windings break down ?
No. I pulled the PSU out and hooked it up to a tester. How do I test it while it's under load?
Ok. So with the memory in slots A1 and B1 with the speeds set to stock it made through the 1st pass on memtest with no errors. I was getting errors before when I had the speeds set to 800Mhz and the voltage set to 1.65 and the memory in slots A1 and A2
This should only be attempted by a competent electrician as you can trash your board if you make a mistake
heres a link to another & safer method using resistors to test a PSU
you can of course monitor your voltages with software but its not guaranteed to be accurate ?
Reading through this thread it does sound like you have a very fussy \ unstable or possibly bad motherboard ?
N.B. the reason memory testing isn't wholly accurate is because it only detects particularly bad ram producing a lot of errors, to quote since windows 95 Microsoft have stated about memory testing programs
Quote:
Defective memory chips may not be detected by memory checking tools. Some memory checking programs are not adequate tests because they do not test RAM in the same way that Windows uses RAM. Most memory checkers use read/write cycles when scanning memory. Since Windows is executing code from memory, it uses execute cycles. Execute cycles are different from read/write cycles and are more vulnerable to parity errors. It is possible for memory checking programs to find parity errors if the memory is extremely faulty.
I'm hoping it's a fussy mobo because from what I've read there are lots of people who have/had issues with this motherboard with memory configurations being the root cause.
So with the sticks in DIMM slots A1 and B1, CPUZ is not showing the memory as dual channel. WHen I put them in B1&B2 they come up as dual channel. I am going to run mem tests all night and see if any errors pop up
I don't know, codes flying all over the map and never the same. First mem, should be in slots recommended for dual and running at stock. Don't raise the stakes when your battling a BSOD situation.
Memory issue and ATA issue. Are you running bare bones?
Minimum hard drive. Remove CD drives. If that still fails. Put a vid card if you haven't already done so.

I don't want to speak too soon but I believe I can marked this thread solved. After installing the two new sticks of memory in both the blue slots of the mother board and having the BIOS at stock, I have not encountered any BSOD. I ran memtest for 15 passes and it had 1 error but i think it was a false error. I also ran prime95 blend test for 6+ hours with no errors. I've been able to shut down the computer over night and turn it back on with no issues. I've also been able to quickly resume from hibernation where before it wouldn't work.
I appreciate everyone's help in getting this issue solved and I've learned a lot from this experience.
@DeanP Should I still update that driver if I'm not having any issues?
