Sometimes I fail to understand the English language. When I read your post, I thought today is your birthday and you're 67 yrs old. Later, when I read LPT's post, that's when I figured out Bill is talking about the temperature and not the age.

Don't feel sad.

After 200+ years we Americans are still trying to understand English.

I knew he meant temperature only because I know A Guy is about my age.

Hehe I've just had one of those phone calls from a very nice gentleman in India telling me that I have all these files on my computer that are bad for it and he can help me take care of it.
He got fed up in the end because I wouldn't press the keys he told me to and he cut me off, how rude.

It's the first time I've had one of those type of calls, I thought it was quite amusing, at the beginning when he told me to go to my desktop he wanted to know if I had a black screen, I said no Facebook so he again told me to press Ctrl and the Windows key. Everytime I asked him what would happen if I pressed the keys he'd just start at the beginning again and tell me I had all these nasties on my computer, didn't make any difference when I told him that I didn't.

mickey megabyte

what was ctrl-windows key meant to do? prove you had nasties?

ctrl-windows-tab is pretty cool, but i don't know about just ctrl-win...

I've no idea, he could have been saying to add some other key along with that but I couldn't understand him that well and wasn't taking that much notice of him.

Arc

Joan, if that guy called you without any invitation, take it as a fun.

One day somebody called me to make me know that I have won a precious prize on a random lottery based on phone numbers. I told the caller that I am gifting him that prize. He may do whatever he want to do with it but calling me again

After that, I never won a single lottery based on phone numbers

but sometimes cats bring you presents - maybe this was a gift to you?

in the past, my cats have bought me a weasel (see picture - not the one my cat had), and a bat! luckily both the weasel and bat were still alive and in good condition so i could set them free.

Nice Sunday today with Angie and Mutti (mother-in-law). As quite often, we drove about 55 kilometers or 30 miles outside Leipzig, to restaurant Fhrhaus in Pretzsch (Fhrhaus = ferry house). We like the place, the ambient and the owner.

(Location on Google Maps)

Herr Schneider (Herr = Mr.), the owner, is a model railroad enthusiast. Each year week before Christmas he sets up a miniature railroad in his restaurant, letting it stay there until mid January. Our visit today was because he called yesterday, telling that "the last trains are running this weekend", then again next Christmas.

This years railroad was rather small, however as entertaining as ever. I'm no photographer so excuse me the quality of the video. Owner himself seeing in controls, Angie and Mutti occasionally on the right:

Some pics from Fhrhaus, in and out:

-20120115-150258c.jpg
-20120115_003.jpg -20120115_005.jpg -20120115_006.jpg -20120115_024.jpg -20120115_027.jpg -20120115_028.jpg -20120115_029.jpg -20120115_001.jpg -20120115_002.jpg -20120115_032.jpg -20120115_031.jpg -20120115_038.jpg -20120115_033.jpg

The restaurant is by Elbe, one of the biggest European rivers. Each year Elbe suffers of flooding, this year the flood season has already started, earlier than usual, because of the warm winter. Snow is melting on Alps and filling other rivers with fresh water which then finds its way to Elbe.

Again, please excuse my photographic skills And, of course, my English that seems to be rather bad after a few afternoon whiskies...

Here's a picture hanging on the wall of the restaurant, showing the owner by his door when the floodwater was highest in summer 2010:

-20120115_007.jpg

thanks Kari,

interesting to see the Elbe again - i was in hamburg for a few days just before xmas - i really wanted to go on an elbe boat trip, but the weather was too grey and wet

very nice hotel indeed, and great street markets - plenty of glhwein and jgermeister were consumed!

Today was probably the most relaxed day of my life. I just took an hour or so to think about what's been going on in my life. It really helped actually, with all the stress coming from my mom's arrest and my parent's separation, it was good to think about the positive things. Great friends, my HSPT scores being so good, and the continuous A's I've been getting in most of my classes. I didn't think I would get much out of just thinking, but it has been the most relaxed day I have had in a while.

Tews

Skater hi.. It's always very good to reflect on ones life.. quite often .. it moves us forward in the right direction.. glad you've enjoyed your day.
Sorry about all the stress you've been going through.. we're here for you .. if and when you need someone to listen or to to unwind from life's stresses.

Sorry to hear that but if it will be easier on you then I hope it will improve your quality of living.

If they won't let you use the ISP we will come and do things we can't say on the forum to get you up and running.

Just let them know that a lot of peoples computers need your assistance so you need the Internet.

Today I had a customer who lives at Laguna Seca Racetrack. His 5th wheel has a small "yard" set up outside the door that is literally feet from the track. He works at the track and works like 10 days of the year. If you like racing, what an incredible job/home! When I go back, I'll try to remember to get some pictures of his view. A Guy

I got my laugh today reading an online newspaper from back home, Finland. Iltalehti.fi is the online version of one of the biggest national afternoon papers in Finland, a site I visit several times a day. The site has about 250 to 300K daily visits.

Last weekend there was a minor scandal when an online vote for a national TV's talent shows got an extreme amount of votes alltogether, most of them given for a candidate that really did not deserve them. This scandal being a big issue in my small, native Finland (5.3M inhabitants in whole country), all media has covered this since Sunday. Above mentioned newspaper opened yesterday an online poll, asking a simple question: "Do you trust online voting?"

This just now:

Name: Capture.PNG Views: 62 Size: 7.6 KB

Simply, in Finnish it says that in the first 24 hours of this poll, over 1.2M visitors have voted, all 100% of them "Yes, I trust in online voting".

1.2M votes, on a site that has max 300K daily visitors, in a country with less than half of inhabitants of New York City.

Made me really laugh

Kari

[UPDATE]

My PT thought it would be a good idea to check out the local ALP's in the area to see if they were suitable for me ... unannounced ... ninja style! It was a horrible experience! We rolled in to a filthy, run down building and sat in the lobby ( in clear view of the "receptionist" and after 25 minutes, Nurse Cratchet tartly asked if there was anything she could help us with. My therapist identified himself as a representative of the VA, and you would have thought the *itch was slapped with a major attitude adjustment! We were immediately ushered into the administrators office and after an exhausting 10 minute interview it was decided that this was most definitely not what I needed, or wanted.

Larry (my therapist) was so embarrassed and told me this was supposed to be one of the better ones in the Tampa/St. Pete area. I told him if this was case, I'd just as soon stay where I currently live ... with Sam of course!

Tews,
Sorry to hear about your ALP experience yesterday. Need to check in with friends who will recommend another place.
I am finding the same problem with Care Provider's.
The Agencies want an arm and leg for their services and pay their staff minimum salary. Thus the quality is way below my standard of care so I will end up doing it myself.

You are absolutely correct in saying if you want things done right, do it yourself!
I was amazed at that inept, unqualified, incompetent people that sent in resume's or called in for the position. Never did get to the face to face interview with any of them

Today, and every few days, the pest control thingy sprayed that smoke that supposedly kills dengue-carrying mosquitos....

And those every few days, i get really bad because i'm allergic to that spray.. my throat practically closes so i can't breath, then i have to puke..

This has been happening since i was 4yrs old and apparently the spray doesn't work 'cause i've had Dengue 4 times in my life.. what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger..

If i'm not making any sense right now, please understand, i'm still having the spray effects

TODAY, i finally got my GTX 560 Ti i'm sooooo happy

Came with a free 10ft PNY active HDMI-to-MiniHDMI cable...

I'll be installing it tomorrow (or maybe sunday, who knows?) i'm going to unbox the whole thing... stay tuned on the "Show us your rig" thread for the full build (new case too )

Love you all

EDIT: i've unboxed it, it's not exactly the one listed in Amazon! but i like it the one that Amazon had, had a central fan, this one is not.. but still.. now, would that change a lot of the cooling?

mickey megabyte

enjoy your new toy, Punkster!

Today or rather yesterday i got my laptop back from repair center.I feel so relaxed and happy.Thankfully only dust has accumulated on my fan and cleaning & maintenance solved the problem.

Today, my grandson has been notified that in view of his "positive start" his probationary period at Williams F1 has been curtailed in favour of a permanent contract of employment, and he's also been signed up for an excellent company pension scheme and private health care.

He's now busy helping to construct and tune the Williams cars for the first F1 meeting of the new season in Melbourne, Australia in March this year.

Congrats proud grandpa

That's excellent news! Congrats to him.

Apple didn't fall to far from the tree.

No, it didn't Dennis.

Thank you, both of you.

It just does my old heart proud to see the young lad making something of himself.

No airs and graces, just puts his head down and learns as much as he can.

Guest

seavixen Congrats to you and your granson , nothing makes a family more proud than to see their offspring are following in good footsteps .. a great example is the best for our youth.. it's paying off now.

Guest

Thanks LadyPink, it is a dream come true for him, but he's found out there's no substitute for hard work. As they say, the harder you work, the luckier you get.

LADYPINKtomato1

TRUE !!!!.. sounds like he's a true hard worker , "easy come , easy go".. my family always said.

I'm so pleased to hear that, it just shows that hard work and a positive attitude pay off.

My best wishes to him and hope his good fortune continues, any chance he'll be in the pit lane at the race, not that I'll see him because of the greed of some people BBC don't have all the races now and I don't have Sky Sports so the seasons going to be a bit lean.

Kari

Thanks Joan.

He hasn't been able to find out who will be going yet, but I've no doubt the more experienced race technicians will be chosen first. Matt is only 20 so he's got time on his side.

I don't have Sky as it's got too expensive.

Perhaps we'll see the highlights of the race on terrestrial TV

JaidynM

Pleased to hear about your grandson, Seavixen! I'm only sorry he's not working for this season's World Champion-to-be Kimi Rikknen and his team Lotus-Renault

Kari

Thanks Kari.

As much as I admire your confidence in Kimi, I think Sebastien Vettel will be the man to beat once again.

Came back from Sydney last night. We had a great time, did a lot of sightseeing in those two days as well as climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge. I hate heights but I did it anyway and it was amazing!

that was a good walk - 10 miles in two hours. it must be nice being young!

looks like a useful little app and i could do with losing some weight, but don't fancy anything too strenuous, walking seems like a decent pace - downloading now!

*edit* downloaded it and it told me not to use it and i should use noom weight loss coach instead.

i'll have to have a closer look tomorrow - just gone 1am

good night all

Guest

Well yes MM, that's pretty good app.

Nice one, Boshko! Do you use Wi-Fi much?

StalkeR

Thanks guys. I don't use WiFi so much. I bough that mostly for my mobile. Sometimes my pc is busy from my bro, and I need internet, so I'll use my phone.

JaidynM

Ah, right. I don't use Wi-Fi much either. PC's are so much easier to use than mobile devices.

We have one cable line into the house, and the computer in that room is connected to it, but the four other computers in the house, and the two iPod Touches, and my Samsung Galaxy that is coming this week, all run on wifi.
