About time it happened... part 1

Prisoner

Well, the inevitable has occurred today. I managed to slip on some ice and fell on my arm. Ended up with a nice clean break. xD

Now I am in a cast and am typing this with my right...
X-rays.

I just thought you guys might be interested. Maybe it's just the meds. Lol

linnemeyerhere

Sorry to hear of your mishap. Ice doesn't give you a chance, your up one second and on your ass the next.

Prisoner

Indeed. xD

bigmck

Sorry to hear about your fall. == That reminds me of the first time I went ice skating. I came home and my clothes were so wet, it looked like I had been caught in the rain.

Brink

Sorry to hear about your bad "break" of luck.

Skulblaka

Aw, this is very unfortunate, sorry to hear about this. Hoperfully you get well, even if it'll take a few months.

Prisoner

Thanks, y'all. Looks like the medication's wearing off. Not too painful, thankfully. But it hurts quite a bit when I move it...

rvbfan

So that was you I took the picture of.

I hope you have a speedy recovery.

vierasniper

ah is bummer

A Guy

Sorry to here that, rarely a possibility here. Hope you get lots of "sympathy" from the GF

Seriously, that's a tough break you had there

okay, funny over - that sucks mate and I hope it heals nice, clean and quick

Dwarf

Ouch! I bet that hurt. You were lucky in that it was your left arm, unless, of course, you are left-handed in which case it was a most unfortunate event. Still, it could have been far worse.

Take care, and don't forget to do the exercises to rebuild the strength in your arm. Can I suggest this one (ignore what it says for the Over 50s)?

On the plus side, a numb arm is like a freebie from a stranger...

Move to match the immobility...

xD she's being very kind to me. Helping me do a lot of things that I seem not to be able to do. I'm just glad it's me and not her; she almost slipped while coming to my house... that was really scary.

Well, here's the x-rays. It doesn't look too bad, in my opinion. Could be much worse.

............Hope you heal up quick Cody.

Prisoner

...I just realized what he meant by that... -sigh-

And thanks, Derek.

Funny because it's true!

You're welcome.

Fantail

What kind of meds?

Prisoner

Lol. Pain killers.

Trucidation

I used to rock climb in my foolhardy 20s until I realised losing the use of a hand would break me. Fractured the ol' legs here and there but it's all good now. Yea, casts itch like hell.

Get all your friends to sign your cast and take a pic when it's full, it'll be something to remember later

Imperfect1

So sorry Cody! I'm always afraid of slipping on the ice too! May I recommend YakTrax to you? I'm just about to get a set myself --- they're like chains --- and easy to attach to any shoe, and I've heard they're really effective.

Prisoner

Interesting. I do a lot of walking in the winter (and slipping, I guess.) so these would be nice to use.

Kari

Prisoner, sorry to hear what's happened. As I was just recently forced to use my computers only with one working hand with trackball and on-screen display, mostly lying in bed, I believe I can give you a nice tip.

I got this, and it really made a big difference:

Kari

Prisoner

That is really interesting... I'd get that even if I didn't have this injury. It looks neat.

That sucks.....hope you mend quickly. I've been fortunate, broken my leg twice but never had to deal with a cast. Hope you don't do much with the left hand....

Prisoner

This thread is crawling with innuendo. xD
Eh, being ambidextrous helps, but doors will not be fun... but I guess I have legs for a reason.

Prisoner

Things appear to have gotten a little worse. Today I went back in to see how the bone was setting. It didn't exactly set... it went from about 50% off to a full 100% off. So I have to go into surgery tomorrow and get a plate or sorts put in to keep it aligned, or something along those lines.

The "fun" thing is that I learned that the break is close to a major nerve that controls my hand functions. So all I can do is pray that this surgeon knows what he's doing. But I think he does.

jfar

The best of luck tomorrow.

Imperfect1

Prisoner, before you go rushing into surgery, don't you think you should see a 2nd surgeon for at least a 'second opinion'??? I know that I wouldn't go into surgery without a second opinion --- especially since you've been told the break is close to a major nerve --- and especially since you seem a little unsure about the surgeon. Best of luck to you!

Prisoner

Well, I'm only 15. I wouldn't be able to contact a second one.
My parents are calling the shots here, and it seems like they're okay with it.
And thanks for the luck.

A Guy

Best of luck, I'm sure things will go well for you. A Guy

Hope it goes smoothly for you tomorrow.....we'll keep our fingers crossed.

Prisoner

Thanks, guys.

The ironic thing? I found out (parents told me yesterday) that they bought, of all things, a drum kit. Back in September, they put this kit on layaway and were planning to pick it up today while I was at school, but now that's not a possibility for them.

Awesome Christmas present, horrible timing... Just my luck. XD

Bummer...you sure one of the neighbors didn't push you, knowing a drum kit was on it's way?? Sorry, couldn't resist

A Guy

Prisoner

Lol. Nice one.

Well, the surgery went just fine. My arm hurts like hell, but that's the price you pay.

Imperfect1

So glad to hear you got through the surgery okay Prisoner. Sounds like your pain medication isn't working too well for you. If that's the case, you can ask your parents to ask your doctor for something different instead. People react differently to pain medication and one may work much better than another.

Prisoner

Well, I've been taking some Vicodin that the doctor prescribed for me, and it works well, but my arm still hurts when I move it at all. So I've got it on a pillow next to me while I play around on the computer.

A Guy

Glad you got through it ok, hope you will be able to play the violin again Hand seems ok? I know you were concerbned about that nerve. A Guy

DirtyElf

lol you're 15. hope you heal quickly.

Prisoner

Hand's a little hard for movement. The nerve got messed with or something, not sure how. But it'll recover soon.

Imperfect1

We'll keep our fingers crossed for you!

jfar

He didn't mean that , about the fingers crossed bit.

jfar

Prisoner

Lol. Nice. =p

Well, it's better than having your avatar changed to The Golden Girls or Dolly Parton!!!! (You have to go to the VIP section's Dolly Parton thread to get the joke. . .)
