merkat106

What type of router does everyone use?

I have a DLink Xtreme N Dir-655

smarteyeball

Billion 7404-VGPM

Generator

Netgear WGR614v7 and I hate it. I'm forever resetting it because port-forwarding seems a bit numb on it. (it's very forgetful)

FullyLoadedMan

Billion 7300N

Jarhead57

Linksys WRT54G

The Cool Guy

Linksys WAP54G, and it's great.

stevieray

D-Link DI-624 revision C, most up to date firmware. The thing is excellent.

ken9122

A Linksys WRT54G, but reflashed with dd.wrt.

bobtran

Netgear WNR3500

Guest

Netgear Wgt624 wireless firewall router B/G/N @105mbs

Dwarf

Mercurial

D-link DI-604 ;D

halo200

Netgear DG834v4 Never ever had to hit the reset button on the back

jebuchanan

D-Link DIR-825. Firmware up-to-date, never had to reset (as I often did with my 3COM).

Brink

D-Link DIR-615 rev.B. It has a great hardware firewall protection and wireless connection rate.

yoyo2112

Linksys WRT610N and loving it!!!

Netgear WGR614v6 I believe. No problems with port forwarding here.

p7ast1k

I have an old Dlink DGL-4300

I'm now using a BT Home Hub v2, before I used an Addon 4 Port Wireless Router with my previous ISP and never had any real problems with it in the 4 years I was using it.

I've tried each and every firmware upgrade and all sorts. From just powering off to full factory resets. Maybe the SPI firewall is a bit too sensitive on this version for me to run my apache and game servers or something.
It does get hammered quite a bit in all honesty.

I've known the v6 or v7 to drop connectivity altogether but not just port forwarding issues.

It appears to forget random forwarding settings in the table. I'll go to redo the settings and sometimes it says it will cause conflicts with one I've already set and sometimes it accepts the same settings I've already put there.

a bit like a corrupt DB... it's really weird!

zrtom

D-Link DIR-655. I've had it about 6 months. Really like it except can't get Shareport to work in Windows 7. Other than that, it is extremely fast, range is excellent, port forwarding is easy for SlingBox and other unmentionables....

Dark Nova Gamer

Well my neighbor uses a Linksys WRT54GS Router, since I use his internet I suppose I have the right to vote.

Prefer d-link over linksys though. >.>

I use Linksys. I have had really good luck with them.

I have tried Belkin, Netgear, D-Link and all of them gave me some problems (not all at my house tho).

I use to work at Best Buy and we sold the most of Linksys because everyone knew the name and since I had good luck with them I would recommend them. It's a personal preference in my opinion. Sometimes you just get a bad one and that will discourage people from getting them again....

Linksys is my choice

I use Linksys WRT160N. Router Works great, although I had some problems with initial setup. I contacted Linksys customer support and spoke with the rudest tech person I have ever delt with. Ended up solving the problem myself. Router works great but Linksys customer support

So, I'm the only one that said "None". Why? I have ONE computer. Yes, you read right : ONE computer. Not two, not three, ONE.

No need for routers then.

Joan Archer

You would still get benefit from having a router even though you only have one computer, it would act as a barrier between your machine and the Internet especially if it was a NAT enabled one.

You're not the only one, I have only one machine.

also routers offer you 'instant-on' access to the internet.

you boot into windows, and you're online...no messing about with dialup connections.

Huh... I boot and I'm already on the net and I only have my cable modem.
And, I don't need a router at the moment. Seriously.

Nobody is telling you that you have to use a router. What people are telling you is that there are benefits to running one. Having more than one computer means you need to use a router ( there are ways around this but it isn't worth the effort) but the benefits are available to you if you use one with only one computer as most are firewall/routers these days and they can be had for very little money which is a small price to pay for the added security.

Man... I configured MSN dialup for a client night before last. 22400 dialup connection speed. I am glad I can't remember those days!
