I'm sorry but you haven't been much help at all during this whole thread...Buying a new game does not fix the problems with an old game...

I haven't played much lately but when i played a match online for a half hour the other night I didn't freeze. I wasn't sure if it was from luck or if it was fixed. Fingers crossed

virusak

thats not the problem, that just fixes the colors, not the freezing

Think there's something with the RAM, Full Screen, and the graphics booster that's built in Windows 7. I dont think it's just one thing causing it anymore.

satanrules666

i found this wee problem that fixes the colour issue for starcraft and age of empires 2 ill add it to the attachment for you

also i love old starcraft i find the new one starcraft 2 online its far to rushed love skirmishes and the campain but hate online

as for the lan freezeing problem i fixed it by having a static ip address to do this click start
all programs assessories command prompt once thats open type ipconfig look for IPv4 Address take note of that and the default gateway the subnet mask will fill itself in when u tick in its box

next open network and sharing center next to connections click Local Area Connection
click Properties click Internet Protocol Version 4 in the list then click properties click Use Following IP address

enter the info you found in command prompt for preferred DNS server you can just use the Default gateway

after that click ok and should be all good and no more freezeing

Chmonster

Static IP don't solve the problem, because Starcraft freez not only during the lan playing, but also in single game.

Hi guys!

I can't fix the problem, but I use ChaosLauncher (Chaoslauncher for 1.16.1), and I play the game in windows mode. The game look pretty cool like this and, wen it get freezy, at least don't frozen Windows.

I know it's not the solution, but at least can help to play while the problem isn't solved ^^

Are you kidding us?? Is this a Joke?? Have you not read this entire Thread?? You do know that SC1 was NEVER designed for Windows 7?? SC2 is build for Windows 7 and should work perfectly?? So again you are kidding with this question, right??

teichu72

dude how do i suppose to know it? i didnt even see entire forum

Strange thing Happened to me, I did a few months ago a fresh windows reinstall and installed only the minimum amount of software on the computer and luckily for me starcraft didn't freeze once.
Then a few days ago i was surfing the web and run into a site that required Java, I installed Java then SC started freezing badly. I uninstalled Java, an like a miracle, starcraft never froze again , and i played quite a lot these days.

ashjacky

great it works only downfall i cant use anyother programs unless i exit starcraft -_- but better than b4 so thanks

It seemed important enough that I register to at least tentatively confirm this. I too did a major system reconfigure and Win7 install recently, and was having zero issues playing Starcraft except the color screwiness that doesn't affect the actual game.

Then suddenly I was getting the hardlock with Winamp still playing in the background exactly as described here, and now seemingly not coincidentally with installing Java for some silly applet I used for maybe five minutes.

After uninstalling Java, I just played a few complete UMS games (my own maps, Nibbits.com has them) without even a hiccup. Something very fishy going on here, and it definitely explains why the issue goes beyond x64 and such.

So... Has a solution been found to this problem? I read through all 22 pages and I really dont want to have to dual boot windows 7 and windows xp just to play SC. SC 1 is awesome and I really hope we can all play it without hassle soon.

Heres something to try: iCCup — Forums / 85949. I haven't tried it yet so let me know if it works for anyone.

And heres another fix I found on teamliquid posted a few weeks ago. I haven't tried it yet but get back to me if it works for you: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/view...currentpage=16

The fast fix is like this

1) Open command prompt as administrator.

2) Make sure you are on your partition drive(usually C.

3) Type in: bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff

4) Then go to your run textbox at the start menu and type in msconfig.

5) Disable UAC in your tools tab.

6) If all that didn't work then put your SC installation in a different folder than program files and it should still run. Enjoy.
Edit: I tried the above solution and it seems to be working! However I didn't type that into cmd, I disabled DEP for broodwar. Follow this link for instructions http://windows7themes.net/disable-wi...s-7-vista.html. I had to reinstall broodwar then add broodwar to the list before applying the patch. For some reason it won't let you disable DEP after you installed the patch but it seems to be working so far. I've had broodwar running for 2-3 hours without a lockup. Typically my game wouldve locked up by now. I had a bunch of background processes running too including winamp and firefox.

update: K it doesn't work :|

shadowfox

Anyone else noticed that it's fixed now?

I just decided to take the game again to play around. After 2 hours of playing, I realized that it didn't freeze. Later on I made this attempt again for another hour and it worked perfectly. Is it possible that one of the updates fixed this problem? If so, then I think everything is resolved now. Same computer, same stuff as before

Fikezof

It still freezes for me, it used to be Winamp it but now even with Winamp closed it freezes.

Here it is the fix for brood and starcraft on w7:
2shared - download ddhack.zip

This should fix color problem and freeze problem. This ddraw.dll is a modified version of cnc-ddraw hack from here:
cnc-ddraw - keepin' C&C running

The cnc--ddraw had some issues with keyboard mapping and some mouse freeze in sc. I fixed them, rebuild, and here it is.

Have fun!
