Looks great, not big on the single player for those games but love the Multiplayer in the battlefield games. Especially in BF2... Man had some good times.

Been playing the heck of out BC2 and Vietnam lately

EDIT: Kind of looks like they taken some AA3 elements and thrown that into the mix.

AstaLaVista

Here's another Actual Gameplay trailer I was able to find... I am liking this game more and more due to the fact that is not a SciFi or futuristic game with crazy weapons... not that I mind having crazy weapons but I like the real-life-like effect more.

mickey megabyte

looks great - also looks like lots of bf2 fans are going to have to upgrade their graphics card!

i hope it'll be like bc2 where they don't let snipers have claymores - definitely my least fave 'feature' of bf2...

Clinkz

It does look very nice, i am very much looking forward to this release, i would have to agree with AstaLaVista, thats how i prefer this type of shooter anyway, not to say that i'm not a fan of a big honking space gun, i am!

ArtG818

yea hopefully my pc will handle it -_-

AstaLaVista

Is there a Demo out yet? if not... when?

Oh and I mean for SP play.

imeem

this will give me another reason to upgrade my gpu and psu next year

I seem to recall lots of BF2 players had to upgrade their video cards back then too. As long as DICE keeps the performance of BF3 similar to how BF2 was, then those on medium spec hardware should be more than fine.

Zepher

I've already pre-ordered 2 copies.

I've been a fan of the Battlefield series ever since I saw the trailer for BF2.
We went all out in 05,

I also bought 2142, but no one else I know really liked it. I thought it was a blast.

AstaLaVista

OK, stupid questions...

1.- Battlefield 1942... A.- it is also an SP/Campaign game. B.- Based on WWII, correct?

2.- Battlefield 1943... same as 1 or something changed?

3.- Battlefield:Bad Company... not for PC I gather?

4.- Battlefield: Bad Company 2... played the campaign, like it, wanted more.

5.- Battlefield 2 & 2 Special forces... are those MP only, SP, or add-ons to BC2 and are they 2 different games?

I have also heard of Battlefield Vietnam but know very little of it.

I will not be buying any of the newer games for a while and I rather spend some money on these old games if they were as good as BC2 was... Again, I am only interested in the Campaign.

A. Yes it had SP but it was more against bots than any real campaign. B. Correct.

2.- Battlefield 1943... same as 1 or something changed?

Console only, more like Bad Company 1, only WWII based. Used the Frostbite 1.5 engine.

3.- Battlefield:Bad Company... not for PC I gather?

Correct, another console only. First to use the Frostbite engine (1.0).

4.- Battlefield: Bad Company 2... played the campaign, like it, wanted more.

Never finished the SP, then again it is more like BF2 in that MP was the main focus. Also used the Frostbite 1.5 engine.

5.- Battlefield 2 & 2 Special forces... are those MP only, SP, or add-ons to BC2 and are they 2 different games?

There is SP element to them, but again it it only against bots and played on the same maps as MP.

I have also heard of Battlefield Vietnam but know very little of it.

Same as BF1942 only in set in Vietnam, and with Vietnam era weapons and vehicles.

I will not be buying any of the newer games for a while and I rather spend some money on these old games if they were as good as BC2 was... Again, I am only interested in the Campaign.
All things considering if looking for campaign type FPS games, then the Battlefield series on PC with the exception of BFBC2 is not it.

Thanks stormy13, I appreciate the honesty but... can you expand on it a little bit? Why would you think I would not enjoy it.

Don't get me wrong, something tells me that, if I never did play the old games of Battlefield is because, at the time, I saw something that I did not like.

That Battlefield 2 & Battlefield 2 Special Forces baffle me though, as I have never read anything about them.

stormy13

The only difference between BF2/SF in single player and MP is that the single player is against bots (and mostly braindead ones at that), there is no campaign. Other than maybe weapons and vehicle practice (and there is only one of the maps in SP that has jets).

Then again if you don't have it, it might still be worth trying as it can be had for $10 or less now. Who knows, if you do pick it up you may even try playing online; and even after all these years there is still a decent number playing (just over 8500 at the time of posting this),

BattleField 2 Servers | Server / Player Search | Game-Monitor.com :: Server Search, Monitoring, Stats and more

Zepher

Special Forces is an expansion for Battlefield 2, adds different maps and weapons.
single player mode is against bots like was mentioned above, and you are limited to 16 or 32 players (I can't remember) and the maps are truncated.
64 players online.

stormy13

16 players only on SP. You can use something like this,

Battlefield 2 Single Player 64 Maps

to increase the map size, but still only 16 player (15 bots).

AstaLaVista

let me understand this (sorry, I'm thick headed )... both those games (BF2 & BF2SF) are not NORMAL or STD SP games but kinda like MP but with ai bots? Am I understanding this clearly? There is no Off-Line play but you don't fight other live persons?

I am just trying to figure out why I never heard of those 2 games or why I never played them. I do remember not wanting the WWII ones because I was kinda tired with MoH and CoD but can't recall about these two.

stormy13

Battlefield 2 and the expansion Special Forces (requires BF2 as it is not a standalone game despite having a separate launcher) and the two booster packs (Euro Forces and Armored Fury, both free now after the last 1.5 patch), were never intended or really designed as single player games and as such have no single player component like you are used to seeing in something like the COD series.

This sums it up nicely,

Battlefield 2 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
Battlefield 2 is essentially a multiplayer game played via the Internet or on a local area network. A single-player mode with three difficulty levels is included. Both player modes use the same maps and use Battlefield's conquest game mode. Single-player mode allows 16 computer controlled players[9] while Internet mode allows up to 64 players. Players can choose to play as the United States Marine Corps, the People's Liberation Army, or the "Middle Eastern Coalition". Additional factions are playable through the expansion packs, such as the European Union. Progress in the game is made via promotions which allow additional weapons to be unlocked. By playing the game on ranked servers, players are able to add to their global player statistics. These statistics are used to award promotions and other achievements.
The gist of it is that if you're looking for a COD style FPS campaign kind of game, BF2 is not it.

Battlefield 3 OMFG a beast I just hope My specs are good enough to run this game at high once I overclock everything.

I wouldn't start worrying about that sort of thing until it gets much closer to release time and the specs are revealed.

Oh and,

mickey megabyte

now that's how you deal with snipers!

gaymores weren't much use to him in that situation.

DX11 graphics card is a must for this game so everyone get ready to see some extreme graphics.

AstaLaVista

Definitely not a smart snipers as I would have been all the way up on top of that roof but yeah... it was a good way to get rid of him

Ahhhh, this is probably why I never bought it then, hate networking and the things you must do to get there. Besides, at that time my internet was slow.

mickey megabyte

there's a hotel in vanilla bf2 that you can get on the roof of - at least two in fact...one's got a swimming pool to dive into (gulf of oman)...can't remember the name of the other right now - but it's a deserty urban one - aha jalalalalalalabad!

Lol, your talking about Karkand i believe.

This is probably the most important PC game of 2011 to show PC gaming truly isn't dead.

lol, that is certainly a different way to look at it.

I have to tell you all, I cant wait for this game. I am building a new machine with thoughts of playing this one. Yeah I know I'm strange but my HP DV7 is having a hard time with BC2. I just wish I knew more of the games specs right now but I am planning to do HD 5770 and then before the game is released getting a second one and doing crossfire.
I hope to see you guys out there.

These games are not meant to be played on laptop, you need to invest in a desktop with good specs and good cooling solutions in order to experience the true awesomeness. The specs for BF3 won't be too higher than bad company 2, may be who knows frostbite engine 2 is far more efficient than the bade company 2 frostbite engine.

your right on that one Aman113, my laptop worked great while i was on the road and for BF2 and 2142. But now that Im no longer traveling I can finally get into some high end hardware for the new engine and I'm looking forward to it.

first and foremost... Congratulations!!!!

Now, you'd be surprise what you can get with little money now a days... all you need is patience and a little luck, the rest is easy.

If you check on my system specs, I built this rig with less than 1000 bucks about 2 years ago... I am sure you can do the same for less and having a much better rig

Trickeh

Can't wait to get my hands on it

hybridfan

I have to admit these are some really fine looking visuals, love the particle effects with bits flying off the buildings, ohhhh can't wait better save up and upgrade my graphics card as I doubt a 5770 will handle it that well.

I'm sure it will but on lowest settings :/

AstaLaVista

I just posted on the Crysis 2 thread that I was not going to upgrade to a DX11 card but I had forgotten about this game... I guess I will start to think about an upgrade when this game gets closer to launch date, even though I expect a few bugs and such so I won't be buying the game until after I see some positive reviews and a couple of patches.

sfong002

i actualy just saw the trailer this past friday and i thought it was real lol
incredible graphics

knk17forever

I want a beta key for this game but they are probably all long gone.

Think it is safe to say that it will be several months before a beta for BF3 comes out.

Muggs

Beta predictions are saying September time for a BETA. And if you've bought MoH when it came out, you'll be getting a BETA key. Or sign upto fileplanet and subscribe to them. Chances are DICE will give them a load of BETA keys. They always do

Thanks God this game is not made by Ubisoft, otherwise, you'd be waiting a long, long time for that beta even though they bamboozle you into buying another flop of a game with the promise of the key to play the beta in the summertime...

DICE has always like getting a lot of people into the betas so they have more info from the end users. Lets keep our eyes open my guess is end of summer for word of betas.

Eblim

These graphics look very comparable to Crysis 2. Except the lighting, Crysis 2 has always had the exceeding lighting effects.

Glaice

Bleh, just another linear Battlefield game with nothing special added to the gameplay.

We really don't know all the details yet.
Right now all we have seen are some squad video, nothing about the vehicles, or command options in game.

I hope that you are totally wrong but... something tells me that you will be on the ball. More so if we go by the last few FPS games.

And I am talking solely on the SP/Campaign side when I say this.

mickey megabyte

surely battlefield is more of a multiplayer game?

you finish the sp campaign in a few days, then spend months (or years if bf2 is anything to go by) pwning n00bs online...

where's the linearity?

(ok some of the vietnam maps are pretty A-B-C linear, but even so, each game is different....

yeah, two level 50's in a chopper taking out noobs is a real nuisance..

spent a whole session on one server just avoiding the same pair, last night..

Learn to at4? Rank doesn't mean skill. It means knowledge

mickey megabyte

that;s one of the best things about bc2 vietnam - those choppers are easy to take down with a tank.

Finally been uploaded somewhere else.

I could be wrong but we had already seen this trailer? Perhaps not in 1080P but I know I have seen it nonetheless.

I sure hope that this game has rate of fire, I like to change between full auto, to short bursts to single at will and not just full auto all the time... I sure miss that.

I think you will be able to change the rate of fire just like in bf2 if they are trying to make the guns close to the real world counter parts then that will be the case. If you cant then it will become dull quickly.
