I beg to differ, i hav'nt got the game but i am definetly an enthusiastic gamer.

To the OP, it is supposed to be a very good game apart from there is no Xbox 360 Contoller support.

I have to say i am a big fan of this series, I defiantly its worth playing, though the experience would be a lot better if you have played Bioshock, i assume you have? For me the first game was that good, i couldn't help myself but to get the second as soon as it was released.

Translating:
It's a great game, with great graphics and unique story, with a creepy/weary atmosphere that keeps you engaged. The action is engaging and the perks available offer you the possibility to tailor your character the way you like to play FPS games. The weapons are also uniquely designed.
Also, if you played Bioshock, in the second game of the franchise you play as a Big Daddy, the biggest enemies of the main character in Bioshock, allowing you to see the world of Bioshock through the window of the submerging suite of these buffed creatures.

Wishmaster

I liked it, and really did enjoy it. But ...

If you compare it to the 1st game it doesnt hold up. The first was the better game IMHO.
Some changes were for the better. Like hacking for example, I like better in 2.

But the story and gameplay just seems lacking something. Maybe just me though.

Overall, Yes it is worth playing especially if liked Bioshock. Its just not as good as the 1st one, but still a good game.

My 2cents.

That just about sums up my take on it, though still a very nice game!

ezeht

I got bioshock late and had all patches and then got the steam version it ran perfect for me. Bio2 retail is of the most buggy games I own it has both sound and vid probs and 2k does not care- they only care to milk folks with dlc's and ruined mp and split the community.

Both sp and mp is buggy. If buying cheap for say 20 bucks it is worth that and worth having, other than that it was is a let down. Any that say other or it is the best the gods ever made take it with a grain of salt, research and read threads about bio2- google is your friend.

As for graphics some say the new is a lil better maybe so- but bio2 is far more buggy than bioshock and not as good a game either in my opinion. I paid full price for it and feel very stupid for it- had I spent 20 bucks or less -well I would have felt better about it..

2k has made promises and pulled them then back again and pulled them again and never patched the the stupid game either- It was a waste of my time. Some are using stat cheat generators in the game too- so just playing mp to try and get best stats is a waste of time 2- granted some had the game months before I got it and have better stats- some are cheated too- it is just the facts.

Them with dlc's have an advantage in mp and and can not play the the added maps unless playing private- they will not rotate into the normal lobby pick up games if not all in the lobby have the dlc with the added maps- so many spent his extra money and can not play the extra maps.

Also I have friends right now with the bio2 on steam and can not have not been able to play his game yet- what over a year now or since the game came out- steam and 2k and gfwl all blame each other- while my buds spent his cash and can not play his steam version- it is just the facts. I would ask for a refund if it was me and not buy the next bioshock either.. As a fact these same friends have 1 and 200 games on steam and the only games they have probs with are gfwl games. I do not like gfwl at all..

It is odd tho- I have steam games with gfwl and have no probs- but I ignore gfwl and do not use or install it or try and put in its code either. My steam fo3 goty works fine for me other than naturally glitchy beth stuff..

I played bioshock some 15x I played bio2 1x and played mp some 15 hours a day for like 3 weeks- bio2 mp could have been really great if made by another company.. They half assed it's sp game too- what can I say..

I prefered hacking in original more than 2 but that is lil stuff. Bio2 is glitchy far more so than bioshock. If buying cheap get it- least you can say you have it- and might like it too..

Bioshock was is a pc game and maybe later ported- bio2 is a port from the start- so go figure..

sygnus21

I kind of have mixed views..... So I bought Bioshock 2 - Special Edition..

I loved Bioshock 1, heck I'm ready to play again, but Bioshock 2 left me wondering.....

@ exeht - Is there a piece of software that's not buggy? Every time you mention or post about a game or software buggy is in the sentence.

Bioshock had it's issues, buggy wasn't one of them - not when you compare it to games like Fallout New Vegas and STALKER. Now those were "buggy" games

ezeht

no sygnus- not all games or software I own is buggy- just some I play most is- as far as operating systems go- w7 can not wipe xp's butt- Others can think what they like- that is why the gods made them them and me me. Everyone has opinions- Why are some better than others- pc maybe- other reasons?

I speak my mind and the facts- I candy coat nothing and I am not pc- maybe that is what separates me from others-

Have a great day..

ezeht

Again- I said I got bioshock late and after all patches- It ran perfect for me- but yes I had read it was buggy when came out. As a fact I avoided it for that reason- but the game I bought ran perfect. Maybe I do not word things clear enough- But I said what I said..

As a fact I have installed bioshock in w7 runs fine for me or the lil I tested it- I have not tried bio2 in w7. I do know plenty of folks that have and have troubles with it. And no buggy crap- is not expected- other than in the pc world and them that make excuses for it. Not all of the pc world is buggy- so any that is is just wrong period. Maybe some could think some try and help such companies get over on folks.. Ha ha.. Or maybe some are trying to aid in the downfall of pc game's with suck port crap and or gfwl crap. Sorry I am not of that group- Forgive me for my honesty.

If it makes ya feel better I can post ya threads of my buds and can not play bioshock2 on steam- being I must just talk to hear my self talk or to complain or something.. Ha ha what ever.

Maybe now I will start having probs because I do not candy coat stuff. It is ok tho- If I am not welcome here folks just have to say so. They do not have to hint- be upfront and a man and say so- I am not a regular here- I will go away..

Take care- see ya..

ezeht

As a fact I can take a hint- I will solve my own prob before it really gets started- nip it in the bud per say. I will go away. In my world I can avoid bull and can be both happy or sad all by my self. My cup is just half full- not mostly full and all flowers and chocolates. I speak both good and bad- hate me for it- I do not care.

I guess next my poor grammar or spelling and walls of text will be next complaints- It is ok I am use to it. It is comical really.

Ha ha maybe some are in some alternate universe but bioshock2 is on up there with bug crap just like stalker games and fo3, But I have played bioskock and stalker games and fo3 1000x more than I will ever play bio2- Does it even matter no. I am me others are them- Good. But I will not tell folks to spend his money saying it is all sweet and good when it is not. I also said google is your friend- read for your self and from other places.

I had liked it here until a few minutes ago- I am man enough to say so too..

See ya.. ha ha what ever. I will survive..

Thanks for clarifying

Maguscreed

I actually enjoyed it better than the first despite heavy reservations about it going in. I know a lot of people would disagree with me having hoisted the original up on a pedestal that may very well never be reached again.

It's worth checking out though.

ezeht

I just say what I think- I read a lot too. I am the same way with free stuff most of my games for the last 4 years was give to me and my last 3 computers too or most of it. I say what I think both good and bad and I am not politically correct. Some find it odd I can complain about free stuff.

I am always me up front and honest period.. No mind games or cowardly or trying to get over on folks with me. I am not sorry for it either. But if folks still want to be so kind to give me things later, well- they better know what I like or will use and can maybe give me gifts I would prefer- where others with the silly games, well they might always get the suck stuff and who's fault is that- Is it better to get junk you hate or nothing because you pissed someone off or might get better and admired for your brutal upfront honesty- My self I am and prefer the later.

Guess I do always have the options to sell off what I might not like or use- but even then a gift is a gift- If I give someone something I do not dictate its use or you have to like it or have to kiss my butt either- or get pissed and try to take it back- not with girl friends either like so many will. An engagement ring might be different- it was taken as a contract in word for marriage- if she changes her mind then maybe she should give the ring back.

See ya..

I too was one who hoisted Bioshock 1 up on a pedestal as I absolutely love the story, atmosphere, and environment. It's one of the best games I've ever played. From that, I expected much more than I got with Bioshock 2. It wasn't bad, it just didn't go anywhere near 1.

I do agree that 2 is worth checking out though.

BTW You plan on giving Dragon Age 2 a go? What Games Are You Playing?

Maguscreed

I also am curious about this mystical 'gamer' creature.
It's quite odd I've been playing games since they came in text only format, and I've yet to meet one of these 'gamers'.
I'm quite certain at this point the species is extinct or perhaps never existed in the first place.

Dude what are you talking about??? We're all around you

Maguscreed

I've never seen one of these 'gamers', though I hear so much about them and how awesome they all are. I'm quite certain I would be blinded by the light that emanates from them were I ever to meet one. As I was slowly deafened by their obnoxious mating call "BOOM HEADSHOT!"

sygnus21

I know what you mean..... I hear those obnoxious people belittling gamers all the time

At any rate were getting off point of this thread - opinions on Bioshock 2

No apology needed for gaming. Contrary to popular belief they do stimulate the mind. Its what you get of it thats worthy sort of like a book. Theres good ones, and bad ones. Games just happen to be interactive

Anyway enjoy. And do let us know what you think when you finish the game.

Peace

Tbh, I don't think so if the opinions of the demo are anything to go by.

Not to mention the fact that I still haven't finished the first one

It's on my 'get back to it' list. Just like the first Dead Space - and quite a few others...

I have and it made me feel ashamed for even knowing what games are, let alone playing them.

They need a new sub-category for the likes of us who have played games for eons, continue to play a lot of games yet don't consider themselves a 'gamer'.

Truth be known, I wasn't a fan of the label when it first became popular. But at least back then it was initially a self-coined phrase by game players.

I like it even less now since it's become a marketed target demographic with ambiguous rules and classes.

Yes, I play games but I'll never call myself a 'gamer'.

Then you should enjoy Bioshock2 - enjoyable, not too demanding nor time consuming

More or less, this.
Bioshock 2 is by NO means worse in terms of quality compared to the first one, but probably it just lacks the "new gameplay" fashion.
I mean, it's a very good game which keeps you really engaged and which atmospheres look wonderful, but if you have played Bioshock you'll sometimes experience that "already been here, alredy done this" that makes you think that the first was better.

Quote Quote: Originally Posted by Wishmaster View Post

Of course you're right.
Have you ever seen an electrical device that can be hacked by properly redirecting a water flow in it?
Electricity? Water? Electricity AND water? TOGETHER?
AAAAAAAAARGH!

In my opinion these are the pros and cons:

PROS
+ It's more "tactical" than the first one. When you have to keep your little sister safe from splicers, you'd better study where to place miniturrets and trap rivets or you'll be struggling a lot to keep them away.
+ Also, hacking cameras and turrets is more useful (in the first episode I destroyed most of them because I quite didn't care about having them on my side, now it's quite vital).
+ The art deco/steampunk atmosphere of the first one is still there, and if possible has also been improved.
+ You can use plasmids and weapons together (and I can tell that the effect of setting enemies on fire and then finishing them with a headshot is great).
+ Big sisters, which are way more tough than big daddies.

CONS
- Gameplay is just a copy of the first, and in the long run it becomes kind of repetitive (go looking for another BD, kill him, adopt his little sister, go looking for adam, go finding a vent, repeat this 2x or 3x per level then face the BS). At least, the situation in which you'll have to wait for the LS to gather the adam are a little various (hall, little room, stairs).
- It leaves you with the impression that something is lacking, I can't explain why though.

So, I would give Bioshock 2 a fair 8.5/10, while I'd give a 9/10 to the first one.

brianzion

keep the comments coming im liking the game so far *DADDY* !!!!!!

No way. In BS1 the artwork, and atmosphere, was much more vibrant and alive. BS2 everything seemed dulled.

Now we can argue that the environment has been aged due to the time lapse between the two games (events in BS2 happen years later) but to me I thought the overall graphics of the game were a little dull, epecailly the underwater scenes.

Exactly my thoughts. The game just feels like it's missing something. You definitely come away thinking WTF!

I'd actually give BS1 a full point over BS2.

The story and atmosphere is definitely what made BS1 such a great game. BS2 doesn't live up to that success. It's OK, but....

I'm a gamer, or at least I play many games, and that "quote" is used by underdeveloped children that "think" (Crazy huh, what's the world coming to?) they have the honor of being bestowed the title of "Gamer".

The term is misused, people who play Call of Duty everyday of their lives are not gamers. Today at schools, people do some pathetic stunts do be "popular". I cannot wait till I leave their poisonous presence.

LazerScythe

Simply amazing game, I have it on the 360 and it is sublime, you should definitely get this game, and the original if you haven't got that already.

Tbolts23

Favorite game ever. I'm on my fifth play-through. New things keep standing out in both games the more I play them. I LOVED Bioshock 1, but I feel that part 2 improved on four elements that make the game my favorite.
1) Hacking everything - I never even bothered in the first game but it brings a whole new dimension to the second.
2) Research camera - So fun to to let it roll and try for the most points possible. Better than part 1's still photos.
3) Using plasmids & weapons at the same time.
4) Drill dash - Don't know if anyone is a fan of football but what a fun way to paste someone.
I have searched the world over for Minerva's Den (Single Player DLC), anyone able to find it for PC yet?
I will be first in line to buy Bioshock Infinite whenever it gets released.

Reachground

I loved Bioshock 1. Pre-ordered the second. Found myself being bored after an hour, never played it since. Waiting and hoping for Infinite now

Well of course the underwater scenes don't have much atmosphere.
What I was meaning is that as soon as you start playing BS2, you immediately feel "at home" in Rapture. I also think that the atmosphere is more "dire" in BS2 compared to what it was in the first BS.

I was tempted to, but... There are some elements of gameplay, and especially one (I cannot say anything more as it's towards the end ...tag-team with a big sister, anyone?) that really made BS2 "reduce" the disadvantage from the first BS, so the difference in my opinion is small, even if I agree the first BS was better.

Maguscreed

It would seem in the eyes of fans a sequel can never live up to the original.

brianzion

im loving it i got the game for a 5.00 so cant complain!!! thanks again for all your comments

brianzion

i can say that bioshock 2 has got my vote. i enjoyed it very much. i am now playing the first bioshock and i find it more challenging maybe i played them the wrong way round! but hey its fun!

sygnus21

Let us know what you think between the two. I maintain that BS1 has the better story, better environment, better looking graphics.

My two cents

i agree that bioshock the first one is better more going on the graphics are great, and you have to work hard in the levels, i love it

Clinkz

Bioshock was, in my mind is the superior. It felt like there was more attention to detail, and a greater level of effort invested in its development compared to Bioshock 2. This is not to say that Bioshock 2 was not a good game, for me, it was. It just did not seem the posses the same quality that the first one did.

Looks like Minerva's den still hasn't been release to PC yet - Minerva's Den and Protector Trials Not Coming - Shacknews.com

However looking into the Games For Windows Live Store - not only is Protector Trials listed, it's listed as Free for PC.....

mmmmm... i can not see Minerva's Den listed?(is it in the protector trials? i have downloaded it but not opened it yet see snap pic. oh and the other snap found it on twitter!)

brianzion

while im on-line a question. the 2k games file is installed on the c drive can i move this to another drive or will this effect marketplace/short-cuts etc?

sygnus21

You can put files anywhere you want, you just have to tell the program well to put them. I have my market place downloads an stuff going to my game drive (G-Drive).

Also as stated earlier Minerva's Den is not yet released to PC that's why you don't see it.

Hope that answers your questions.

Tbolts23

Protector Trials is a muitplayer only thing. I never got into multiplayer with Bioshock, the single player mode is too much fun. As for Minerva's Den on PC, Gamerevolution.com posted a review for it here:
Bioshock 2: Minerva's Den Review for the PC
So I got all excited. But I have yet to find it. Some info out there says it is not being released on PC, only XBOX and PS3, while other sources say it is. I think I am one of many who would buy this in a heartbeat from GamesForWindows Live or Steam or however I could get my hands on it.

brianzion

thanks for the info i have been looking for it to i love bioshock/bioshock2 its great playing.

I hadn't encountered any bugs in both games, I enjoyed both, excellent games. They're really worth playing. Highly recommended.

brianzion

well im trying to kill fontaine in the first bioshock and man he is all hard!! any tips please?

sygnus21

Keep moving and take out any helpers. Also stay away from him while shooting at him and draining his health. Also use your plasmoids - I used decoy and bees a lot

I beat him by doing that and occaisionally standing on the pedistal he comes off after recharging.

Good luck.

Right you are syngus, Protector Trials is single player and I am really enjoying it. It is still not pure single player as all you can do is protect little sisters while they harvest adam, but it is still way addicting. Keeping my fingers crossed from Minerva's Den though.
