Do you wonder exactly who you're talking to? part 1

nate42nd

I have pictures in my mind about the major users of this site. I know there are young people, old people and everyone in between and men and women too. It would be interesting to know if you are talking to a 74 year old woman or an 11 year old boy. Just a thought...I guess we'll never know. I trust most people and that's what counts. Very good people here.

that's the Internet magic... is for everyone

My great great grandkids tell me the same thing over the phone.

Something I really like about these web forae is the anonymity. When I attempt to assist someone with a technical problem, it benefits me to assume that they lack really comprehensive knowledge about computer science. Otherwise, my responses to questions about RAID configs would be links to white papers or certain listings within bibliographies. Instead, I can take a peek at the OP's profile, try to put on their shoes and attempt to help that person solve their perceived problem, if not the real problem. Consider the numerous postings about virtual memory - microfew posters get it right, with or without qualifiers or caveats. I choose to leave that one alone starting now.

No, I do not wonder. I am lurking here of late to enhance my knowledge of the new OS. I have found a handful of people that see the big picture and also understand that the OS is simply a tool. I belong to other forums populated by persons who use other tools that I also employ. I dig the anonymity there as well.

Oddly, at this forum I have found persons that I readily admire and I have posted pictures of my family - ripping the veil as it were. I have not done that elsewhere.

I am an uglier, fatter, hairier, shorter, and older version of Brad Pitt, but with the same dynamic screen presence and raw animal magnetism.

Just try and get that image out of your head! HA!

I like the anonymity, I just have to wonder sometimes. You know there are a lot of young people on the forum. We would be surprised how many older people there probably are too. Is all cool. It's kind of neat we can all come together and share our knowledge.

Barman58

Just picture an 18 (almost 19) year old guy with a Boston Red Sox hat on.
That would be me

And I'm pretty set with not knowing who is out there. I just like helping them through any issue that may present itself

Ahhh 39 is still young. 60 is getting up there but they may have a lot of good knowledge to share. I just worry about getting advice from a 10 year old. I suppose as long as it's good advice everything is cool.

wonder if I've meet any of you....

wonder what the likelihood of that actually is.

Eh, I generally hate giving away my age when people ask for help, usually they will think you do not know a thing if you are younger (me being 17, that happens a fair amount of time).

Holo you can find me in Pembroke NH 03275 :P Bring your Gundam RX78-2

nate42nd

dude. i rebuilt a pipe organ in a town maybe 30 miles from there. can remember the name of it though, was a couple years ago.

I would not be surprised if a few of us know each other and don't know it. If we all had our states listed it would give us a better idea. No need for it though.

Just think of a stunning and extremely handsome 64 year old stud, and you have me. . .

. . .to answer those who have asked, yes the "Stroke X2 & Still Fighting" means that I have had two physical/mental strokes.

So 60 is getting up there is it, I wonder if I should book the nursing home now or wait a couple of weeks until after my 66th birthday

Sorry to hear about the strokes Lee but as you say you're still fighting, as for that 64 year old stud I've enough to put up with managing my 60 year old one

LOL, I try not to think about that one I have in the past run into people I've talked to in forums before by some odd run. Its kind of strange when it does happen. Hell I travel here and there all the time so the chances are good to run into me lol.

This is reverse logic.

A few years ago, while contracting with Airbus in Wash DC, I discovered that one of the engineers was a fellow forum member (music player app). On the forum, he was regarded as quite the ***. It was challenging to reconcile the person I saw in the office with the jerk from the forum.

I never let him know that I discovered his RL bioform.

I'm not 39 and I still feel young. Gosh, I can't even see 39 from here. I'm so old I use punctuation. But I can still write code in 14 languages and my current project is building a Mini-ITX.

nate42nd

I have nothing to hide, 30 years young & still going

I even have a real pic of me in my profile LOL

Also, I think that we need not worry too much about who we help/talk to on this particular forum

Mongo

Im 22 not a teen and thats me in my profile pic, dont think it matters what age you are here.

I must say Cindy, that's a lovely, flattering picture. I would love to take computer advice from you any day....or give it. It's nice to put a face to a name.
