Sources suggest a January 15, 2012 release It seems that by way of several sources, we are now hearing that we should expect Rockstar to formally announce Grand Theft Auto 5 in June at E3. In addition, it is expected that the game could be on track to make a January 15th, 2012 release date.

Too far away!
anyway, I hope it's set somewhere good. I'd love it to be a return to San Andreas, but I definitely don't want it to be in vice city. Somehwhere completely new and real has been rumoured, such as Europe, but I'm not sure if I'd be as big a fan of it if it was set somewhere we could completely relate to :/

Everlong

Whether that's the release date for a PC version though is a different matter. Every GTA game on PC has had a separate release long after the console's version. For the better though as they do add PC improvements.

biggles1000

oh yeah, good point. so, get it for the PS3 at release and have fun, then get GTA5 and new PC later for lots of fun

Squid

A return to Vice City would be epic IMO. San Andreas, not so much again IMO. GTA 4 was by far the best looking so I am very much looking forward to 5.

SWEEEEET!!!

Well, the San Andreas story did get rather long and boring, whereas vice city was 'fun in the sun', so I can see where you're coming from.
Strangely, GTA4 and the DLC look awful on the HD TV, but on the old plasma it looks great. Still, yeah the graphics blew any others far out of the water

AstaLaVista

I remember playing the Demo from the first GTA installment, I was not even able to finish it, it was that hard I thought. I loved the sky view of the whole thing.

And no, January 15, 2012 is just around the corner... believe you me.

well, i must admit this year has gone quickly so far

yowanvista

I only hope they don't make it a resource hog

Yes exactly! I am sure GTA 5 will take place in a new arena but where? Hmmm anywhere will probably be good but could you imagine GTA 5: Pennsylvania? I mean being an Amish gangsta in a horse and buggy? That, my friend, would truly be EPIC!!

yeah, it'd be like red dead redemption but miles more fun!

zEric7x

I used to sort of like GTA for the open end game play it had but I lost instrest. The last game I played was before 4. Still 5 could be really good so well wait and see.

I heard it was going to be set in Europe, London I hope.

biggles1000

yeah, London could be fun. I hope it is either a big city or a huge (interesting) county.

Um, GTA4? lol I don't think so.

I do agree with most that GTA:VC wasn't exactly the best part of the franchise (except the epic rock/metal classics 8D), but I don't see how GTA:SA is. I mean, seriously, the whole game is like this:

Actually, this may not be the best example as this is actually funny, unlike anything in San Andreas.

vierasniper

bahahahah, good one gornot. the only thing i want from GTA 5, is for it to be full of easter eggs. there i said what we are thinking.

biggles1000

I found San Andreas to be tonnes of fun, but I do see why some people disliked it.
While I find it rather lame that people like Rockstar run the Lola del Rio mystery and Activision and co run CoD conspiracies, I too would like to see lots of easter eggs (more easter eggs than saints row 2 would be great). I would also like them to revert to the old san andreas style of cheat inputting, such as 'never die' rather than refill health.
If you have played GTA4, you will enjoy this humorous cartoon: YouTube - Grand Theft Awesome

I play GTA on an i7 now. It's like playing a completely different game as to if you play it on a dual core of an old quad core. Graphics were better than console version, despite the slow down.

All PC versions have had an increase in graphics increase. My favourite GTA though has to be 3. Mainly because it was the first full 3D GTA world.

If that's true, then I shudder to think what the released product will be like.

Rushed games are always awesome

Ivan the SoSo

I just hope they fix the bugs BEFORE they release it....instead of patch after patch

Yeah - that's not going to happen.

Release game unfinished to meet deadline, then patch and patch and patch.

That's just how it's done these days

AstaLaVista

As long as the patches fix what is broken and not break what was working... I am all for it but, I am also with smarteyeball, it seems this is the modus vivendus now a days and I, for one, blame us equally. If people would stop and read reviews before they blatantly buy the games just cause, the publishers would make sure the game is finish and polished before they sell it.

sygnus21

I'm not getting the game as it's not my type but these caught my eye....

First, I'd be leery of buying any game where it's "publically rumored" there may be contract issue with the developer. Wheres the support coming from if they don't get contracts resolved?

This is a perfect storm for a disaster if true - contract issues, a rushed game with lots of bugs, and no support or patch as key personnel are gone

It's not something I would touch, even if it were one of my favorite titles.

Unfortunately this is the business of game companies - use the public as beta testers, let them complain, then throw a patch at em (maybe).

Anyway I'm not going to go into the whole politics of things but I'll just say that if consumers had better rights with regards to software there would be less incentive to rush buggy software to the market.... But there is no easy answer for that, and none to be debated here as it would just hi-jack the thread

At any rate let's hope this whole developer contract issue is just that..... a rumor

My two cents

Sadly it is and I will

Everlong

Well the PC version will suffer the most like every other PC game at the moment as it looks like they're gonna be releasing it at the same time as the console gets it if they have this deadline.

biggles1000

yeah, the problem is that PC games nowadays have such high requirements (well, by my standards ). When you buy a console like the PS3 or Xbox 360, you know that you'll be able to easily run any game released for it. When you buy a PC, unless you get one/build one with amazing specs, you would be in fear that your computer may not run it, or run it with bearable graphics settings. And of course game makers want to go where the most money is. PC games generally have much higher settings than consoles can support, which was great. Sadly, this era seems to be dying for several reasons

I have to disagree with you here, at least, that is not the case as of late... ever since consoles had the ability of going to the internet, all games decline in the sense that they are not completely finished because the publishers knew/know that they can always sell the game and then bring in a huge patch... even if it doesn't fix the game to its completion.

yeah, i see your point. for example (with Rockstar ) GTA4 didn't originally have trophies for the PS3, and when the patch came out (AFTER everyone had got bored to death with the game) you had to start a whole new save game to earn trophies
and of course there's the infamous Mercenaries 2, which (as far as I know) EA still haven't patched it, as it locks up the console when you try to go online

biggles1000

been playing Vice City recently
I forgot how much fun it was, and it's still a blast on old machines unlike san andreas... :/ After re-playing it, it has occured to me that it would be quite cool if GTA 5 was set in vice city, but a vice city that's the whole size of Miami. After all, we've come a long was since 2003 with games. From what i've heard, LA Noire and Driver San Fransisco have the whole area of their respective cities, so I don't see how it could be an unrealistic dream

PwnFrnzy

I am hoping they actually TEST the PC version for Grand Theft Auto V.
The Grand Theft Auto IV version for PC had far too many problems, causing a lot of people to literally go insane due to it not working after initial installation. Another horrible thing is that new copies do not include released patches, making it even that more awful. Let's hope Rockstar Games actually gives their customers the knowledge that the game will work.
I currently play San Andreas since my current PC cannot handle Grand Theft Auto IV, but I use a graphics mod called "ENB-Series" that enhances the visuals to nearly that of Grand Theft Auto IV (light reflections on vehicles, more bloom in lighting, ect.).

biggles1000

yeah, i definitely agree with you on the patches. If Rockstar want to be considered 'big players', they have to act like it. Releasing a half-done mess of a game and then patch after patch doesn't make it look like they're professional.
you're lucky with San Andreas My laptop can only cope with Vice City (although it's got slow again, which i need to fix). I think what may be a tell-tale sign of my computer not being up to scratch is when the game only draws three types of car model (i had modded most vehicles to their real life counterparts ) so seeing nothing in Los Santos but new york style cabs, 1980s black crown vics and ford pickup trucks, it makes me think 'this is unplayable', along with the game lagging.

jr26

I've logged 100+ hours into GTA IV and its expansions(PC). I eagerly await some details on GTA V. I was just thinking the other day about cool city's or themes i'd love to see in the new game. GTA V: London... that would be awesome. Maybe a vintage city? Something like Mafia II? I think though if I had to guess it will be back to Vice City.

PwnFrnzy

In response to Biggles1000, I too have a very heavily modded GTA: San Andreas. Most cars are replaced with fitting counterparts (Sabre -> 1970 Dodge Challenger 440 six-pack; Elegy -> 2009 Dodge Challenger (for the peel-out effect)). Other mods include HQ Lights mod, and the Vegitation Pack mod.
I am able to run the game very well on my XP partion, but sadly if I drive at top speed for too long the game crashes, I think it may be the result of the read/write speeds of mt PATA 500GB Hard Drive.

Yeah. I also want it not to a resource hog. Or else I have to buy a new gaming desktop.

Yeah, I hear you with the fitting counterparts bit. I was determined to mod every vehicle in San Andreas for their real life version or as close as I could get. I ended up giving up halfway through (literally halfway through the vehicle list, most standard vehicles had been swapped) as my computer wasn't up to it anymore. You're lucky having a better machine , but yeah, it does seem to crash at odd times. For example, I was racing against a friend of mine (computer next to laptop, same room) with him in a hydra and me in a modded truck with a trailer. The challenge was who could get around the map first (I drive a circular route around the edge, he flies to each corner, lands, takes off). I nearly won, and would have done if I'd taken the highway to San Fierro instead of accidentally going through the desert. The point of that tale is, the game just crashed many times when I was merely cruising along in the truck

If it has the facial animations seen in L.A. Noire I'll be a happy chap.

nice i can't wait for it

Yeah, I haven't got L.A. Noire yet, but I have seen a lot of videos and the graphics look amazing. The face details, the vehicles, the damage system. Please Rockstar, don't mess it up this time. Make it look like L.A. Noire. It's a piece of art.

biggles1000

Was just playing GTA4, and for once the sun was shining over liberty city! With this car, the tire smoke, the sunshine and 'heart of glass' playing on Independence FM, it made me hope that GTA5 will be set in Vice City, as even with just GTA4 style graphics it would look AMAZING, and be a lot more pleasant place to be than LC.

Coke Robot

YES!!!

I'm thinking they might do a Hollywood-esque setting since that is just loads of of GTA 4 related material waiting to be used, like commercials for products that make you more fatter and lazier maybe...?

smarteyeball

Looks wise, it will be very similar to GTA IV as it's going to use the same engine. (hopefully tweaked and prettied a little)

I don't want to see it set in another dingy city either, although I don't want it in Vice City either. I'm sick of rehashes. Some new and original content would be nice.

Realistically, as long as it's big and fun to drive around like it is in GTA IV - I'll be happy.

(More realistic car damage would also be awesome. I'd love to see cars have a 'grip' meter that is worn out as you handbrake etc. Popping tires from excessive handbraking would keep me amused for hours.)

Coke Robot

Oh gosh, I'd love some more realistic car damage! Just more realism in general! (mostly so I can crash through stopped traffic so I don't end up doing it in real life )

biggles1000

the slight addition of realism in GTA4 for tires was better (pop after ages spinning them, if a tire catches fire when you drive through flames, the tire will pop leaving you with rims and if you shoot a tire, after driving for a while, it will pop), but yeah, some complete realism would be nice, ESPECIALLY with the handling. The GTA4 handling seemed ok for me on the PS3, but for PC it's unbearable. They're all bouncing about on their springs like some 80s cop show

Yeah, I too would like a big map, perhaps a bit bigger than LC? San Andreas size would be great, but probably get dull (well, wh knows, if they sort out vehicle physics, it could be a joy to drive miles and miles)

Levent

After somepoint remaking old maps from old games is not good
Making All New Map is mucch more exiting and remaking old map is take same effort as making new map
and i think gta4's map was big enuf for 2 months but it was deff not interactive as i expect it
and im thinking how do they get better graphics for Consoles thats another question because there is no hardware avaible to upgrade i think there will be no differances at consoles (At Least at Xbox)

RST101

Expect it to run like a pile of poo(no matter the hardware) and rockstar come out with a sad excuse like....... it's made for hardware that's three generations away.
