Please help, my computer is not working. part 1

PinkRoze

Alright so I upgraded my computer from windows Vista to windows 7 like 3 months ago so it's not too much or not too little. I had a little trouble with the installation but in the end everything is working fine with my upgrade (I'm not sure if this is relevant to my problem). SO recently my computer has been shutting down on me, it has happened like five times. As I tried to fix the problem and use start up repair it said the problem could not be fixed so I clicked on "Show more details" or whatever and it showed me Some "Signature" with numbers next to them and on signature 6 it said something like "osversionmismatch". I tried everything ! going back in time with system recovery point and also try to log in to safe mode but I cant... it either stays at the screen where is says "Windows is starting" with the logo on top or it gets past that and shows a black screen with a cursor on it. You can move the cursor around (But what good does that do on a black screen?)

I would really appreciate it if you guys could help me with my computer I really need it!

Update:
I took pictures of my sad computer

Let me know if you did an upgrad or clean install (had to reinstalll programs). If up grade, just bite the bullet and do a clean install.

PinkRoze

I did an upgrade and I dont know how to do a clean install because it wont let me log into my PC

richc46

Can you get in with safe mode?

Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

PinkRoze

I used to be able to (Like two hours ago) but not anymore, it shows me the black screen with the cursor

richc46

Use another computer to make this DVD

System Repair Disc - Create[2]=Performance Maintenance

PinkRoze

Does it matter what computer? The computer im currently using is a windows XP

And also would I lose all my files?

richc46

You can make the DVD from any computer.

Once you get to the reapir console, it will depend on the option chosen to see if your filles are lost, but probably not

PinkRoze

I click on the Neosmart files you need to download to make the USB and the link is not working

richc46

Wait a while and try again

Download Windows 7 System Recovery Discs — The NeoSmart Files

PinkRoze

I get confused with all the links ! I downloaded the Windows 7 Recovery Disc 32-Bit (x86) Edition and it's just a weird file, I also downloaded ImgBurn but I guess I wont be using it because I want to install it into my USB, and I also downloaded something else but that thing is not working it gives me an error message.

I'm totally lost please help.

richc46

Start over, go step by step. Post the precise problem.

PinkRoze

This is the error I get

richc46

Although, I have never had the need to do the procedure myself, I think this is what is needed.

Microsoft Store: Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool Help

PinkRoze

That is the program that gives me the error

If all else fails.

Take out your hard drive, and access the files on another computer. Backup all your documents and then format the disk.
Re-install your OS and all of your programs and drivers (You will need all the CDs or download them from the internet) and transfer your documents back.

PinkRoze

@Kevon100 I'm not that savvy x_X; just 18 year old girl trying to get my PC fixed, I've seen the inside of a computer before but I'm too scared to mess with the insides.

richc46

Can you get your hands on a computer with Windows 7? You said that you are on XP

PinkRoze

No, I can't this is so frustrating I really need my computer >_<;

Alright I guess I'll buy a blank DVD and use ImgBurn see if I have more luck that way.

Kevon100

Well you could have someone do it for you...it's effective.

richc46

Very good Kevon

PinkRoze

I cant click the bottom button that you're supposed to click to burn the DVD I tried other programs and none work. Is there another way I can fix my PC?

Jonathan_King

Don't worry about the repair disc now, you have a Windows 7 DVD, right?

You said you tried doing a system restore? Did you boot from the disc and try it? See this tutorial: System Restore

Most importantly, relax. We'll make sure this gets taken care of as soon as possible. No worries there!

Hello,

Look at this video

Jonathan_King

it says, there is no CD in the drive X_X: but there is !

PinkRoze

At this point, I recommend a custom install. Be sure to read this tutorial and follow it to the letter, to avoid losing your data: Custom Install Windows 7

Your programs will be deleted, but your user data (My Documents, Pictures, Videos, Desktop, Downloads, that will all be saved.

Jonathan_King

I cant do that because I cant get past "Windows is starting"

PinkRoze

You are booting from the DVD and it is saying that?

If so, then it sounds like a hardware problem. First I suspect hard drive. See this link to test it: HD Diagnostic

I dont think you understand my problem X_X; I cant do absolutely anything on my PC I cant log in because all I get when I turn on my computer is Windows is Starting

After inserting the Disk on the sick computer and reboot does it prompting you to boot from disk ?

Also make sure in BIOS CD ROM is enabled as a boot option How to Set BIOS to Boot from CDROM - www.hiren.info

Jonathan_King

I called microsoft and all they did was erase my things...this is really depressing. They told me to press F12, select the disc and do a clean install. The computer restarted multiple times and then just shut down so I turned it on and it gave me an error message saying that the installation could not be completed so please restart. I restarted it and it turned on shoung a blue screen with white letters for a split second (too fast to read) and then the pc restarts infinately

PinkRoze

Hello,

I'm so sorry about your situation. So Microsoft didn't fix it ? If not then Run a Hardware Diagnostic (Memory and Hard Drive) follow this link for instructions Hardware Diagnostic !! Captain Debugger

Hope this helps,
Captain

Jonathan_King

the link you sent me asks me to burn something and I can't do it.

Could you take the hard drive to another machine, and test it there? Install it as a second drive, and then run SeaTools on it: | Seagate

Guest

I don't know which chip is the hard drive. I'm scared to mess with the notherboard

Guest

Michelle,

I'm sorry to says this but I think it's best to take your System to a Local PC store and have a professional help you with it.

I agree with Captain. Taking it to a PC shop is probably the best route.

Thorsen

I agree with Capt'n. At the shop, an expert can look at the system first hand and figure out if it is a hardware failure and if so, what needs to be replaced.

Call around first to see what each places prices are. If you have a friend that is good with computers, let them look at it. A lot of times, (I myself would) a friend will look at it for free just to get more knowledge of computers and to add another This-fixes-this solution under their belt.

A shop can also take out the Hard-drive and get all the lost info off of it if possible. There are ways to get this info back if it hasn't been written over.

If you do find someone who can look at it, involve them with this forum if they are good with computers, but need help. We can assist with vast amounts of info as a group.
