Today [5] part 9

Kari

Had "walking lessons" today, got angry and said something not so nice to physiotherapist. I tried to tell her I can no more, I have to rest, and she keeps yelling "Are you a man or a boy, 10 more steps!", and finally I fell quite badly, hitting my nose and forehead to the floor.

Although it was about 30 years ago but if I recall it correctly, taking driving lessons to get a driver's license was not half as difficult than trying to get a "walker's license".

Kari,
Your therapist and I have something in common. To get you and Donna up on your feet and walking. Her goal is to get out of the wheel chair and use the walker.
She has fallen many times but gets back up and presses on.
So, little boy, get up and get going!! Never ever give up!

Sorry to hear that you fell, Kari...sounds like your therapist is like this guy (the one on the right)....
Name: full-metal-jacket-sergeant.jpg Views: 87 Size: 6.8 KB but I know they are trying to help you, so keep trying!

Kari

Dennis, I'm walking already, although only short distances and very, very slowly. But this physiotherapist says all the time it's just in my head, I could do better, pushing me more than my sadistic drill sergeant did when doing my conscription in the Finnish Navy.

I thought my goal was to be able to walk normally. She seems to think she's a sport coach, preparing me for the Berlin Marathon...

That's her goal ............deal with it.
She'll be proud of you if you can walk several blocks but won't show it.
She will probably say to you...I WANT MORE FROM YOU KARI!!!
Your therapist is just what you need. Someone to drill it in you to go for the sky!

According to an old Finnish saying, if you want to hear the truth you should ask your kids or your wife. I told Angie today someone said I'm an upstanding man, trying to explain what English expression upstanding means, breaking it to two words up and standing. She looked at me and said the truth, as she sees it: "To me you look more downsitting than upstanding" (works better in German...)

Well its that time of the year december. And it puts me into misery evry year(even more than the rest of the year).

Can you tell that in german ? My mind is to lazy to translate that.

Dwarf

From Google Translate (I hope that is correct, but I'm sure that Kari will correct if not):

Fr mich sehen, mehr als downsitting aufrechten

Kari

My small but true joke didn't work, told here in English. It's just this how in English several combined words, like putting up and stand together to form the word upstanding, means something completely different than either of those words alone, or even together but written separately.

Our beautiful Staffy, Holly, finaly gave birth to her litter.
The sad thing was the first born. Neither Holly or us had experience with welping and when we had a still born, it was a very sad moment.

The vet had taken an x-ray some time ago and thought from what she could see, we would end up with 3-4 pups. Well, after the first sad moment, elation. Over a period of time, she gave birth to 5 more.

Both dogs are brindle staffies. As you can see by the pics, there is NO doubt who the father is, lol.

Sally and I are very proud parents.

Very cute...a grandchild wasn't enough for you huh?

Nice litter and really cute pups!

Joan Archer

Well done to Molly, they look a very healthy lot good luck with her raising them, it's a pity about the first one but as they say that's life.

You've got your work cut out now trying to control that lot as they grow but I'm sure you'll love every minute of it. What did you get and how many of each ?

Joan Archer

Well isn't today turning out to be a good one. I have no water and no heating, I notice a puddle of water on my kitchen floor just outside the airing cupboard door looked in and the water was coming down the door frame and then started dripping quite badly.

Just after 9 pm the plumber came out went up in the loft and found a joint or something was broke and leaking he didn't have the correct one on him so all he could do was drain off water from the tanks to ease the pressure and stop the dripping and he'll come back in the morning with the part.

The system has to be all drained down so no heating and no water until I don't know what time tomorrow.

Kari

Sorry to hear that, Joan!

Joan Archer

Thanks Kari, it wouldn't be so bad if the house was built properly so that it managed to keep some heat in but it's a bungalow with concrete slabs for outer walls and all internal walls are just sheets of plaster board fastened to wooden framework.

You can't do cavity wall insulation on it as there are no cavity's, so I would think the thickness of the outer walls is about 3 or 4 inches, if that.

Around here they are what are called Waverley, something similar to pre-fabs and it was built in the 60's as a holiday cottage.

The Howling Wolves

Well Joan,
Bundle up and keep warm till the Plumber returns.
Any neighbors to stay with for the evening?
I have an extra room and electric blanket for you.

Hope you managed to keep warm last night, Joan.
Also, that your plumber has arrived and fixed your leak.

Joan Archer

Well the plumber is still here, he came last night to stop the leak for the night thus leaving us without water and heating and came back this morning. He's fixed the leak but still trying to get the heating working again, because he had to do a part drain down it's put air in the system and he's trying to get it out so the blooming radiators will work again, and I'm having problems typing as my fingers are so cold but hopefully we'll get there, sometime today I hope.

Do you have a fireplace, or an electric blanket, at least, to have helped through the night? Or are you just drinking lots of hot tea?

spinifex

Sorry to hear about your problems, Joan. I have lived in a cold climate, so understand the frustrations.

Hope it all goes well and gets fixed.

StalkeR

Today I'll be learning all the day

spinifex

Today i have been looking after Holly and her new puppies, researching which parts to buy for Sally's new Christmas pressie.
And if that is not enough, have also been pulling parts out of one server to update another to be used as a storage computer.

CarlTR6

I am glad the leak is fixed. I hope your heat is working by time you read this.

Kari

Joan, hopefully you aren't freezing anymore!

Kit

Well hopefully today my car gets towed to the neighbors garage so the exhaust can be fixed and the rear struts replaced, because my cousin wore out both my rear struts and trashed my entire exhaust system by driving over rocks sticking out of the road.

It's important to keep eye on diet, blood pressure, and platelet count.
Glad to see you ending Lovenox Therapy.
Wife is headed for 2nd IV Tysabri Infusion this Friday.
So far I have seen no improvement

Tews

I'll be doing labs weekly for 6-8 weeks, then every month for the foreseeable future ... Im just glad to be done with those da*n injections!

Kari

Tom, do you still have to take some blood thinning medicine?

Tews,
When my wife was on Copaxone Inj. she hated to see my coming with the needle.
It was pre-loaded but a DAILY injection. But after 2 years of it we could tell it wasn't working so now she is on Tysabri every 4 weeks.

Joan Archer

Glad to hear you've finished that treatment for now Tom I hope things get better for you.

And I'm still not warm the plumber was here until just after lunch but had to go as he had to be somewhere, still don't have heating and he's tried several things, even put a new pump in but thinks it is an air problem and it's just blocked up somewhere.

He's coming back tomorrow and he's going to have to completely drain down the system and empty all the radiators then fill and start again, so it had better work after that.
The temperature is suppose to be -3F over night, I do have a fireplace but that's only in one room and it will go out through the night so getting up in the morning is going to be a nightmare as I don't have any other heaters. Luckily I had some coal so I could light a fire after having to open it all up again but it's only a small open fire that soon goes out if you don't keep feeding it coal.

Anyway I'm going to disappear soon and go back in that room to warm up, it's too cold to stay down here and I don't have a laptop to use in there, not sure if my new Nintendo DS would work getting in here even though I can get onto the Internet with it and browse around.

Keep your fingers crossed for me that I'll have the system back working later tomorrow.

Irene

Joan, so sorry to hear that your system is not fixed. Certainly not the ideal time for this sort of problem.

Wrap up and stay as warm as you can...

Kari

Today, Monday the 6th of December 2010 my warmly beloved and greatly missed Finland celebrates her 93rd birthday. The indepence day is to us Finns very important, reminding us how close it came to lose our freedom. Two times, both in 1917 and 1939-45. The text below is an immigrants sentimental rant, you can stop reading now if that kind of stuff disturbs you.

Finland never was a sovereign country, per se. We were a part of Kingdom of Sweden until Sweden lost us to Russian Csar in 1809, in what is today called as Finnish War. Finland became an autonomous Grand Duchy in impearilistic Russian Empire. From those days we still are officially a bilingual country, Swedish language having an official status beside Finnish. When Lenin was causing major disturbance in Russia, the Csar had so much other things in his mind the Finnish nationalists decided the time was right to declare Finland independent. Surprisingly, Lenin won in St. Petersburg but he too had so much other things to worry he accidentally accepted the Finnish declaration of independence, as one of the first of his foreign policy decicions after the revolution. So, the independent and sovereign Republic of Finland was born on 6th of December 1917.

Living next to the Great Bear was not easy, especially considering Finland has almost thousand kilometers border with Russia. When World War II began, we had basically no alternatives; we allied with nazi Germany. Luckily our government very soon realized that whatever happens, we have to change our allies. The rest of the war we faught a comical war; allied with West, against nazis, but at the same time fighting against Soviet Union. As such, Finland is the only country that fought most of the war against nazis and (one of) allied forces. Reason is clear, Stalin could not accept that a west country had it's border only 50 kilometers from Leningrad. He demanded the eastern part of Finland as a buffer zone.

The war ended, we lost about 10% of our soil. We had to give Karelia and Petsamo, the eastern parts of our country to Stalin, to keep him on the "right side of the border". But: in the WWII, there were only three capital cities of war participating countries never occupied by the enemy: London, Moscow and our Helsinki. Finland was the first country (and quite a long time the only one) who paid the war compensations to the last penny. Finland is the only country bordering Soviet Union who could keep the western, capitalistic system and didn't fall under the Soviet umbrella after the war.

Both my grandfathers fought against both Germans and Russians. I'm proud of our independence and my granfathers' part in that. We are only 5.3 million people, a half of that of New York City or Berlin. We are not very well known, normally people know only Nokia, Linus Torvalds, Jean Sibelius and some ice-hockey players or rally and Formula 1 drivers. What people seem not to know is that since 50's, Finnish troops have been an essential part of almost every UN peace keeping operation, or that our former president's have had an essential role when negotiating peace in Northern Ireland, Kosovo, Namibia, Sumatra (former region of Indonesia) and other parts of this globe of ours.

Don't misunderstand me: I love my German wife and family very much and have chosen to live an immigrants life here, rather than in my Finland. I love my life and my home. It is my own choice, based on my bottomless love to my beautiful wife Angelika. My home is where Angie is, no question of that. But as in every home in Finland, or in every Finnish home abroad, tonight at exactly 6PM I light those traditional blue and white candles by every window at home. To remember how close it was some 60+ years ago, to thank the fathers of my mother and father for fighting for my, my childrens and my grandchildrens freedom, to show how proud I am when I can say "I am a Finn!", and to remember home is not a place, it is a state of mind. My home is hear in Germany, but part of my heart can not and will not forget my origins.

Good morning Kari and Dinesh (morning here anyway)

Nice history lesson Kari.

Kari

Thanks, Dinesh. As a history and geography freak, I'm also interested in your young country's history. Loved to read the story of Saleem Sinai, born on the night you got independence, in Salman Rushdie's excellent book the Midnight's Children. Been there a couple of times, seen the speed of the development last 20 years.

For you, Dinesh, here's Angie in India. Picture taken on our last trip there together, August of 2006. Location is somewhere near Uttar Pradesh. I'm the photographer, in picture our driver and guide with Angie (Angie on the right ):

You can count on that! Although for some funny reason Germany has today a normal working day (Really! It seems Germans are not celebrating Finland's independence ), for a Finn it's like St. Patrick's for the Irishmen or Fourth of July for you geeks on the wrong side of the pond

My surfing comes to an end in couple of hours, then it's a night out with our small ex-pat community and after party at our home. I shaved myself the first time since August this morning, tuxedo was picked from dry cleaners on Saturday, bowtie and socks ironed, my neighbor is at this very moment in town with my shopping list, to stock my bar. The speech is written and rehearsed; I'm the oldest one in our small ex-pat group so it's my responsibility. Angie has promised to be a designated driver, both for the car and my wheelchair (walking all night still not possible).

I'm sure she'll be happy with my "pressie". (i hope)

It's the least i can do for her as she got me a very nice Dyson vac to keep me occupied. (true story).

Yippee I have heating as from about 5 pm today, it has been a nightmare and the plumber said it's the worst he's had to deal with but at last we have it working again, although not so good is the fact that being without heating has caused my husband to become ill.

It will probably take a couple of days for the house to become really warm again, especially after last night and the minus temps and the same again tonight brrrrrrrrrrr

The Howling Wolves

Joan,
What did the Plumber find wrong with your system and what caused it?

So happy to hear you have heat again! Yippee...Now get you husband to the warmest part of your house so he
doesn't get worse.

We had lots of snow last week, so the Library was closed from last Tuesday until last Saturday. I also couldn't get to work last week as there were no buses or trains last Thursday.

Now the snow has gone from the south east and hopefully we will have dry weather and no more snow at least for the time being. I still have no computer, it might come back this week, but if it doesn't I will ring them next Monday morning. I will not ring before that, just in case they have got behind themselves, because of the snow.

I got my new phone on last Saturday and got delayed by the snow, as we had no post for about 3 days. At least I can check my email with this new phone.

Also I did not have my driving lesson last week, because the weather got so bad. I have got one tomorrow.

I will update you tomorrow afternoon at the Library.

Thanks everyone for the good wishes, you don't know how good it feels to start feeling warm again. Hubby is still bad, it's gone onto his chest so he's got a bad cough, trouble is last time he had a bad one everytime he coughed he would pass out and just collapse so it's a bit worrying.

We'll get there and it's our 34th Wedding Anniversary on Friday but I don't think there will be much celebrating done.

Joan,
When I was a kid my Mom boiled some water, put Vicks Vapo Rub in the hot water, stirred it and then put a towel over my head like a tent. I sat in a chair with the hood over my head and breathed in the vapor from the hot mixture.
Sure cleared my head and lungs up. Might want to give this a try.

Joan Archer

I don't think he'd be able to do that Dennis, he can't even use a Vick's Inhaler because of the medications he's on plus he can't breathe through his nose, thanks for the suggestion though.

I thought Vicks Vaporub is available only in India.
Its good to know its a global product.

Vicks VapoRub

History
In 1890, pharmacist Lunsford Richardson took over the retail drug business of his brother-in-law Dr. Joshua Vick, of Selma, Greensboro, North Carolina.[1] After Dr. Joshua Vick saw an ad for Vick's Seeds, Lunsford Richardson began marketing Vicks Family Remedies.[1] The basic ingredients of the range included Castor oil, liniment, 'dead shot' vermifuge.[1] The most popular remedy was Croup and Pneumonia Salve, which was first compounded in 1891, in Greensboro. It was introduced in 1905 with the name Vick's Magic Croup Salve and rebranded as VapoRub in 1912 at the instigation of Smith Richardson, Lunsford's oldest son[1] ; Smith had gained valuable sales and marketing experience while working for a period in New York and Massachusetts after attending college. Smith Richardson assumed the presidency of the company in 1919 upon his father's death.

Another remedy is to slice the ends of an onion, put it in a bowl with a little water added to it and place it at the bedside of the sick one. This is supposed to draw the illness from the sick and make him fell better quicker.
The onion will turn black the next morning.

If I can fetch that e-mail I will post it ASAP.

The Howling Wolves

Found it....

Lets check it out the components inside onions that have play significant role to your health.
Researchers from University of Bern, Swiss found growth plate chondrocytes (GPCS) inside onions. This crucial component, GPCS, is effective to prevent osteoporosis. GPCS works by preventing bone mass reduction, including calcium. For that reason, onions are claimed to have significant role to avoid osteoporosis.
One of few published studies in humans, from India, dates back some 30 years, but it found that people with diabetes who ate 2 ounces (60 g) of onions a day experienced a significant drop in blood sugar levels. Researchers credit these effects to the sulfur compounds in onions as well as their flavonoids. These powerful antioxidant compounds also help fight some of the side effects of high blood sugar, not to mention heart disease.
One study found that people who ate the most onions, along with other foods rich in flavonoids, had a 20 percent lower risk of heart disease. Thanks to their sulfur compounds which help prevent dangerous blood clots and lower high blood pressure. Since sulfur compounds are strongly anti-inflammatory, onions may also help relieve the pain and swelling of arthritis. Plus, onions even seem to boost HDL, the good cholesterol.
Onions are one of the richest food sources of chromium, a trace mineral that improves the bodys ability to respond to insulin.
Bear in your mind now, onions hold crucial part in your health as follows:
1) preclude weakened bones
2) avoid osteoporosis
3) decreasing blood sugar levels
4) lowering the risk of heart disease
5) prevent dangerous blood clots
6) lowering high blood pressure
7) boosting you HDL, the kind cholesterol
8) improve your bodys ability to respond to insulin
9) relieve the pain and swelling of arthritis
Therefore, it is strongly suggested to eat an onion each day. It is a must also to have onions in your kitchen as the simplest natural home remedies

Back in my old, bad habits again. Recovering maybe too fast, or rather thinking I'm recovering faster than I actually am?

Woke up yesterday morning having a mother of all hangovers (reason). Made a pot of coffee, sat in front of my desktop at 8AM. The hangover took control of me finally at 4PM, had to go to bed for a couple of hours, after "only" 8 continuous hours online eating nothing, drinking a bit whisky and a lot of coffee. Back online some hours later at 8PM, and since that all the time posting, again only with whisky and coffee. It's now 2PM, so now "only" 18 hours online time. If any doubt, check my last posts since yesterday morning European time. A 30 hours session with whisky and coffee, broken only for 4 hours yesterday afternoon.

Canceled neorologist yesterday and physiotherapy today. Don't take my medicin due the fear what they could cause, having at the moment only very little blood in my body alcohol... Angie went to shop after breakfast, she slammed the door so loud at least our German members could hear it... She's mad at me now, not saying a word.

Hopefully this still ongoing session at least ends early tonight, hopefully I get to sleep around the clock.

Life is (mostly) good, Mac OSX still sux!

I know this all guys, but thanks anyway for caring. Hopalong, that's precisely why I refuse to take my pills now; I need to wait until after a well slept night. Hopefully tonight. If I go to bed now, at 3:30PM, it's a doomed try to normalize the rhytm. I try to stay awake a few more hours and trying then to sleep, to reset the situation.

Anyway, I was explaining to myself this to be normal behaviour after the long abstinence, mainly from PC's and the net, that it's just normal to want to gain the lost moments. I'm also explaining this to me by thinking I'm allowed to try to remember, to get my memories back (I still have a black hole in my memory from late August to mid October). I know this is not right, I understand the weakness of my explanations.

Funny, I could have never thought I could one day feel myself so much befriended with you virtual friends I could tell things like this. Today I even like Dennis!

Kari

The Howling Wolves

Kari,
Dennis does NOT LIKE YOU! I will not sympathize with you. My brother WAS the same way.
You are drinking you life away. The next time you pull this stupid ass stunt Angie will walk out the door and never come back. You are an Alcoholic! Time to look in the mirror and say it.
I AM AN ALCOHOLIC!!!!
You are reverting back to the good old BOOZE DAYS. It is time you get medical help NOW!

We are your virtual friends and cannot be there to take your sorry ass to the clinic. If I get banned from this forum ......so be it.....but I won't sit here and let you drink yourself to death.
Time for you to think about someone other than Kari. You have a lovely wife, Angie, who adores you and family and friends that would do anything for you.

Make the call and get back to the clinic and get help NOW! Tell them the real problem.
I am out of here with the hope and prayer's for you to do the right thing.

Thanks for the congratulations boys, hubby not right yet in fact he's in bed now coughing his heart up. The problem is that there's not a lot that can be done because of the medications he's on he can only take paracetamol to try and help.

On another note I have to agree with Dennis and Mike and their attitude to Kari, we all care about him but he's not doing himself any favours going on the way he is and he's in danger of losing Angie if he doesn't get his act together.

You'll have to wait until Tuesday I'm afraid Im not wearing it until Tuesday, so my Nan is keeping it at her house until then as I am staying there Monday night anyway.

I am working at the community centre to-day and still have no computer, but it could be waiting for me at my house, just I have to see when I get back home.

BTW, when I got my new phone recently the software that came with it is supplied on a small CDROM disc, so will it work in my external CD/DVDRW drive?

Good News:

Yesterday when I got back home there was my tower waitng for me. On the invoice it said Motherboard and Other. It was away for 2 weeks, so it wasn't that bad and it is working OK.

Bad news:

I went to Hastings to-day to see my Jobsearch Advisor and the office was closed and locked. It might the Christmas Dinner or something, but it would been nicer to have him to ring me, as I wasn't really planning to go to Hastings this morning.

Other news:

I am going to try the small disc that came with my newish phone on the PC this evening and see if I can get online, like I did with the other one. So I might be on the forums tonight.

I would accept anything you buy for me my dear....

Just be careful where you buy it from. Check their return policy as some have a
15% return to stock policy.

Tonight started to rain snow.

LADYPINKtomato1

Dennis .. Yes your right about the returns.. I try to never get in that situation.

I thought the above item would serve me a lot better than my cell phone , I so rarely use .
I can get service for the Tablet at the same cost to me as my cell phone plan.
The Tablet .. has a browser.. e-mail ..tons of applications.. and more.. books , movies..
photos on an on. the android thing on it also.. ( I may have spelled that incorrectly.)
I can purchase a cell phone card for what I need.. on a Trac phone from Wal-Mart or another brand.
Thanks so much for your reply.

Hi LPt
I have a TracFone that I bought at Target, and if you don't make very many calls or texts, it is very cheap. I've spent less than $200 for my phone service from November 2009 until now.

The tablets, on the other hand, I don't know very much about, so I can't really say if it would be good for you or not.

Kari, I concur. Oour winter last year was one of the coldest on record and this year looks to be more of the same. Tonight we are supposed to drop to 25 F (-3.9C). This will be coldest weather since 1989 when we had snow on the ground in St Augustine. That year destryoued the citrus industry in Florida. Gobal warming is a myth perpetrated for financial and political gain.

I agree, Carl. Here in England our winters are getting colder and colder. Last year was one of the coldest winters we have had in a long time, This year looks to be more of the same.

Having said that, Im pretty sure our climate is changing. Just not neccesarily Global Warming. Our weather seems to be "skewed" by about 3 months. Last year we had snow in March (normally December/january) a rainy July and August (normally March/April) and then September and October were like the middle of the summer! I honestly couldn't believe it when in October we were hitting temperatures of 22/23C (which is hot for England)

Climate is and always has been dynamic. It has never been static. During Roman times, England had vineyards.

Got an email from a friend back home in Finland this morning. What an Christmas present he got!

He and his wife wanted to buy a small holiday apartment in Gibraltar, or the vicinity in the Spanish side of the border. They were there three weeks late October, to see what's available. Not too much, Gibraltar is small and market very restricted.

Two weeks ago he got a call from someone working on the agency in Gibraltar they are using. A small one bedroom apartment they had already seen and made an offer which the seller refused as too low, is now available. Owner has not got a better offer, and is finally willing to sell. He needs 20,000 as soon as possible to secure the deal. My friend transferred the money, everything should be OK. Right?

No. The money is missing, as well as this former employee of the real estate agency. The owner of the apartment has not agreed to sell, in fact he had withdrawn his apartment from market early November. Police both in Gibraltar and Finland are now involved, looking for the rogue real estate agent.

Nice Christmas present. But, even he is a friend of mine I have to ask how stupid must a man be to transfer that kind of the money only because of one phone call, without any signed papers or guarantees?

Sorry. Sad to say, yeah, that wasn't too prudent. That's why we use escrows in most of the US, so that there is a simultaneous transfer of title to the buyer and money to the seller. Or if escrows aren't available, then lawyers to oversee the process. . .

Kari

That's the normal procedure here, too. I simply can not understand how a person I know to be a hard core business man can fall to this kind of trap.

We have ice on the roads. Less than a 1/4". You ought to see all the traffic mess on the news. Interstates closed. People stuck everywhere.

This is live now. People stuck for the past 3-4 hours on the road and can't go anywhere.
Fire trucks and police cars can't get to crashes etc. in some places. No traction even with chains on the tires.

Salt trucks aren't getting around to well either plus all the traffic in the way so they can't salt and the cars can't get out of the way.

What a mess.

I'm snug as a bug here at home.

LADYPINKtomato1

A Guy hi.. awww.... but snow is good at times.. if it doesn't hang around very long..
maybe a few days at most.....makes it seem like winter / Christmas .
Do you have your shopping completed yet ?

All the kids are grown, and we adults don't exchange presents, so other than my Mom (got her a 24" monitor to replace her 15" ), all I do is get some cards, some wine, and some See's candy. How about you? With work, are you ready? A Guy

You know, there's periodic bad weather conditions no matter where you live. Nature is a tough cookie! I lived in Southern California most of my life --- until now. In California I suffered through 2 major earthquakes (and countless minor ones), and huge mudslides and wildfires that threaten thousands of home EVERY YEAR! So yeah, the weather is usually beautiful, but it's still pretty scary to live there. Now I'm in Milwaukee where it's ccccccccold, but at least the ground is steady under my feet! Uhhhhhh, that is, until I slip and fall on the ice. . .

LADYPINKtomato1

Today I say good-bye to my Daughter and my three grand-kids after a week long reunion with them. They flew here all the way from Germany for the visit. It had been almost five years since we had seen each other, so we stayed up into the wee hours catching up what was happening in each others lives and spoiling the kids.. This is without doubt the best Christmas I've ever had...

Tom, that is one great Christmas. I am glad you got together and had a good time and a good visit.

Mae Lyne's three kids are getting together in Milton, FL for Christmas. Her oldest lives there, her second lives in AR and her son is currently stationed at Ft Gordon, GA. This will be the first time they have all been together in almost four years. So Mae Lyne is going to spend Christmas in Milton. Unfortunately, I can't go. One of us has to stay here with Dad. So we will have our Christmas this weekend.

I'm proud of myself, for the first time ever I am almost done shopping and wrapping, always before I've done it all between the 22nd and 24th....a nightmare!

Randy,
It's scary...............I finished mine yesterday as I too use to wait until the 23rd to do mine. Then I liked the craziness of shopping. Now, I am not even going close to any shopping center or mall. I will stay at home.

I hear ya, Dennis. That was another thing I did for the first time this year....all the shopping so far has been at Amazon.com......no annoying crowds! I am going to have to brave a Walmart to finish up though.... Mom suggested a bunch of different colors of yarn for my grandmother to knit/crochet with, so I'll have to brave the masses for that.

I'm happy for you, Tom. I can only imagine how you are feeling now.

Although my family, my two sons and two grandkids, as well as my mom, brother's and sister with my nephews and nieces are living in the same continent, living abroad automatically means you don't meet them as often. But at least I can meet them two three times a year.

Today, for the 2nd time this week, I was really sick to my stomach. Upon being home for a few hours(both times), I feel much better and more alert. I think I know what's causing it, which is good.
But tonight, I plan on getting some long needed, uninterrupted sleep, since it's Friday for me.

Gotta get that stomach healthy before Christmas MWRed. My guess is that you've got lots of good food in your near future, so you'd better be able to eat it, right?

Looks like we're going to have a white Christmas, if the 10 day forecast is correct. The weather service is predicting snow for Thursday the 23rd, Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th, so if they're right, it'll be a very beautiful Christmas.

???!!! Weren't you just awarded for your work? What happened?

Kari

Dinesh, really? You just got rewarded, and now they want you to resign?

Dinesh

Yes, its so ironical situation that I was awarded last week and this week (today) I will have to resign.
I made a mistake, I accept it. Infact, I wanted to help the company but I never thought it'd cost my job. Its 17th day of the month. I m not sure if they will even pay me for these 17 days of work. Life sucks ATM...

The managers, human resource team, my supervisors, etc. they all are trying their best to retain me in the company as they know I m innocent and I wanted to help the company so whatever I did, I did it with good intentions.

However, the Irish clients, sitting there in Dublin, have asked for my immediate resignation. Its been already 2 days to this discussion and today is the JUDGEMENT DAY!!!

This is nothing but injustice with me...

Life may have better opportunity for me!

Kari

Today, walking back from school, the last day before Xmas holidays, I was very surprised and shocked to find our brand new car (Toyota Avensis, very new + expensive for us) had the whole rear end of the car completely smashed up. My dad wasn't in the car at the time, so the 'culprit' left a note with a phone number and other details. Thanks to the black ice and snow, a driver (female driver ) crashed straight into the back of our car. At the moment we are not sure if we are going to have any car for the next few weeks/months and whether our insurance company can bother to give us a replacement car, so everything is a bit hectic at the moment, especially so close to Christmas. Of course, my mum is over-reacting, shouting and stressed out, but my dad just takes it coolly

Bill2

Dom, sorry to hear that. Be nice to your mom, show this to your dad:

That is awful, and I hope you get a replacement car. Good thing that your dad wasn't in the car at time or it could been worse.

Dinesh I'm so pleased to hear that you have been retained, it's good to hear that the clients came to their senses and did the right thing and kept you on.

Tom I'm glad you had that precious time with your children just before Christmas those memories will carry you through the festive season.

well, where i am at in socal we are suposed to see rain for about a week. other than that im trying to get dual-boot with ubuntu, but i quickly realized that i needed to shrink my main windows partition, but i couldnt because of file fragmentation and what not. So right now im letting PerfectDisk Professional defraag my 500GB drive. so far its been ~2hrs and still going.

We had some more snow this morning (just stopped actually), but hopefully that is it. As there is no snow in our area for tomorrow, but it will remain very cold the next few days.

At least it is less than last time and I have seen one gritting lorry. The only thing I am a bit worried about is signing on Monday at the Jobcentre, but the trains are running a revised timetable at the moment according to: BBC - Travel News - Sussex : Public Transport Disruptions

It was but it's not too bad at present the roads have been kept clear as it's a bus route but there's still plenty lying in the fields and the temps have struggled to get above freezing during the day and dipped below most nights.

A Guy

I have just read on the website of the bus operator in my area, and it says that they are hoping to run all the services on Monday and the trains are still running at the moment. So I should be able to sign-on at the Jobcentre on Monday.

Tomorrow I will not be on the forums very much, because I'm going to do a triple-boot consisting of Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP2 and Windows 7 SP1 RC. I will be on the forums in the morning and in the evening.
