Went to my friend's house to pick something up, and locked myself out of my car, with the car running. >.<
Had to pay a locksmith $63 to come out and unlock my car for me so I could drive home.

Bad luck Benjamin. I've done that
Many congratulations Dinesh. I'll look forward to the pictures.
I'll post this without comment but we can all see who it looks like. I don't think he's in Cornwall at all

Fixing the window would have cost more than $63 though!

Hi M'Lady, congratulations on the job! That truly says something very positive and complimentary about you. In the job market today, it is extremely difficult for a anyone in their 50's or older to find a job. I do understand what you mean about the freedom of retirement, though. I am enjoying mine. But a few more dollars would come in mighty handy!

Mae Lyne is progressing very in her recovery with no complications. She thinks she should be fully recuperated yesterday! She should be cleared to drive again Tuesday. He pulmonary doc told her it would be six months to a year before she has her full stamina back; but I can see improvement everyday. Thank you for caring and asking.

Make sure you reach on time at your wedding..

LADYPINKtomato1

I have 3 keys to my car.. one I use daily.. one hidden in the trunk of my car.. one in my handbag .. the latter 2 are just in case they might be needed.( an extra key is less expensive than a locksmith )
I've been there too Ben.. didn't cost me any money however.

Carl.. good to see your reply...on Maye Lynes progress.. yes 6 months sound about right.. she may go faster or slower.. just so it's getting her back to normal again and healthy.

Yes, I will be getting a spare key made soon.

LADYPINKtomato1

I'm amazed at this talk of locking yourself out of your car - all the cars I've owned or driven for at least the last twenty years were virtually impossible to get locked out of

Unless you actually lost the keys after you locked the car

The drivers door has to be locked with the key or the remote so the key/remote cannot be locked in the car, perhaps US cars do not implement this?

A Guy

I was standing by my car with the door open ..talking to my gf...
My gf.. said "come on in the Pizza place , eat with me.." so before thinking... I just slammed the door shut then looked in .. You're right my keys were in the ignition.. so I had to get down on my hands and knees to find my key holder under the fender... before I could get home. Lucky me I had planted the key there...lol .. it's just that fast and easy to do.

Nigel, a few of our cars had this feature. The driver's door had to be locked with a key. This was before remotes. It was not popular at all here. The advent of electric locks has made it easier to lock your keys in your car.

I had a great weekend. My oldest daughter, who lives in Redmond, WA, came to Orlando for a conference. After the conference, she spent Saturday and Saturday night with us and flew back home yesterday. We really enjoyed her visit and company.

carl it must be satisfying knowing your kids have grown to be successful,

Dennis, if she heard my real-life singing voice, she would certainly be driven to drink...or else she would start throwing tomatoes at me!

The Howling Wolves

Noob,
If she heard my singing voice she wouldn't have to be driven....She would just run to the nearest Pub and get an IV hook-up!

I think that it is the wish of every parent that their kids make good choices and be successful. All four of mine did very well and my three surviving are successful and happy with life. They all make more money than I did - so that they can take care of me in my old age. .

Arc, I agree with M'Lady. Have that wrist looked at. You don't want something to go unnoticed and heal improperly.

Main thing Arc is that your eyes are OK now. Excellent news, don't worry about your wrist, you're young, it will heal quickly but your eyes are a different matter. I'm very pleased for you.

lol I suppose I could do that, though it would be for a machine which is not operable yet I have not ordered the graphic cards yet, and have a few things I have to figure out with the case and fan controllers first.

I've been neglecting doing that and making a sig etc... But most my stuff is on that machine which I need to finish.

Thanks for the early birth day wishes!

Great my friend.. then take it easy using it for a week.. see how it feels then.. even a crack in the bone can be very painful.
I just didn't want something healing wrong..if it needed more.
Hope the pain is getting easier to bear.

Today I had to make some changes. Been a Cable customer for years ... got surprised with another rate increase as my phone bill had increased earlier. Total monthly cost for phone, Internet, and TV was about $105 USD. The first rate increase was the phone, then cable (and even more for HD programing, as we were still buying the basic "analog" package) until my monthly cost was going to be about $145 USD. Social Security Disability did not get an increase last year and will not get one this coming year but my costs continue to rise. By adding Internet service from a_double_t to my phone bill (savings good for one year) and using dish_net (savings also good for one year of two year contract) my cost now is $85 USD this year and something like $110 USD the next year barring other rate increases. Still less than the original $145 USD.

I am already missing cable. It is so easy to purchase devices that will record programming off of cable. With satellite, you have to pay for every tuner used ... one tuner for each TV, one tuner for each channel you might want to record. If there are three programs scheduled in the same time slot, you need three tuners. There just is no other way around it. And you must pay a service fee if you are going to use a DVR to record, which just adds more expense.

So today, I have a new IP address!

Cheers!
Robert

Hello Robert.

They are unfair with their pricing, I am so fed up with cable but I will probably never change because of the cable internet.

I'm on the same income you are Robert, I'm looking to downgrade my bundle somehow, just haven't figured out how and what yet, that bill keeps growing.

The Howling Wolves

Robert,
I subscribe to AT&T U-verse which I can program movies or soaps for my wife when I take her out.
My bill is $100.00 per month for TV, Elite Internet(think its 6mps), and phone.
I do this so I only have one bill from them per month. Makes online paying easier.
We both are on Social Security and no increases for another year while our elected people gave themselves a raise.
There are others cheaper but not in a package deal like we get from U-Verse. Even the guys who are selling Dish at Sam's Club say I've got the best deal going.
Keep us posted monthly, on how your service is working. Would be curious to know!

I had my doubts also, but the a_double_t dsl modem practically set itself up and I have no loss of speed for half the cost (at least for one year). I am still getting 3MBS.

I have heard good things about U-verse. Is that a one year promotional price?

Here in my town, a_double_t delivers its TV programming via direct t v. I found the regular cost of direct to be higher than the regular cost of what I got. I like the idea of one bill to pay, but do not like the idea of one company getting all the business so it can monopolize the price! (kind of like fox net?)

This will be a two year experiment ... so we will see how it goes!

Thanks!
Robert

Guys there are millions just like us out there .. I have a bundled Att internet.. Long distance.. and home phone service for 80 dollars per month ... my cell is ATT also..but a different bill.. I prefer it this way..because my monthly fee for the cell is 29.99 per month..
I'm madder than a wet hen over no raise on SS again this year.. If those rats in Washington DC would pay back to SS all the monies they've raided from it..to pay other things... SS would be solvent until, the Lord returns... even if they paid just the interest on the raided funds alone ,
back to SS.. it still would stay solvent.

LPT, I have an ATT bundle too (home phone and 3Mb internet connection). It's not too bad, except my modem cuts out every 20 minutes so it's impossible
I'm switching over to a Verizon hotspot though.. rechargeable and I can take it with me wherever I go. A bit more expensive but to me it's fully worth it.

Today i'm still at work, but managed a bit of computer time to check the forum.
The last 2 days we have been helping out, cleaning all the mining equipment ready for transport.
Nice change under normal circumstances, but i just heard it's around 50c.
No wonder i was hot and found an airconditioned office to cool down a bit.
i though it was around 43c, but feel worse knowing it's 50c.

Flying back to Perth on monday where it's nice and cool.

Welcome back Richard!

The Howling Wolves

We went to discount furniture store it is too expensive to buy a 3-piece suite there, so we will have go down the second-hand route.

I have also walked the dog and shortly going to email a couple of driving instructors and see if I can get any lessons cheaper than 20 per lesson.

The telephone wires are small copper wires and the connections can oxidize and loosen over time. Occasionally I have to go to the connector box on the outside wall of my home and use some light sand paper to clean the wires and then tighten the connections. It always improves the signal. A loose or bad connection can cause the symptoms you describe.

Hi, I'm new to the whole Internet-forum-thing.. I'm not really sure how a lot of things on here work. (Although I did find the option to change the colors)

Thank you I see there are several useful tutorials on here. I will certainly have to go through them. My son finally convinced me to buy a new computer last week (I was using Windows 2000 before) but now I have one of those acer laptops from Wal-Mart. It is certainly taking some getting used to, but with these tutorials I at least won't be completely lost in the dark when I am unsure of how to do something.

Well... it involved trying to vault over a 4'-tall marble-top partition wall after running towards it, getting my hand caught in the sleeve of my sweatshirt, having my hand slip on the shiny surface, falling flat on my face, and toppling over a rather large recliner in the process. You know those cartoons where Wylie Coyote goes chasing after the roadrunner, falls off the edge of a cliff, and then it's just bang-crash-thud? Yeah, it was kinda like that.

well today i fluxed and reflowed the BGAs on my ps3 after I got the "yellow light of death" and a nice upgrade I used AC5!

I am switching driving instructors at the moment, so my next lesson might be tomorrow morning or Friday morning. This is because my present one keeps messing me about and I have found a private one who only charges about 18.00 per hour.

I'm signing on later at the Jobcentre.

Hot Air Balloon Pilot Training

Endless Mountains Hot Air Balloons, Inc. offers both Private and Commercial Hot Air Balloon Pilot Training. Contact us for details. What does it take to become a balloon pilot?

To become a hot air balloon pilot it requires a passion to fly, commitment, training, patience, and time. One of the best ways to decide if you want to commit to becoming a hot air balloon pilot is to participate as an active crew member. This gives you an opportunity to learn and experience the concepts of ballooning and all that is required to fly a balloon. Once you have experience as a crew member you will have learned the "basics" and are better prepared to expand your knowledge and gain the experience needed to pilot the balloon. Every balloon flight is a little bit different and there is always something new to learn. Student pilots and certified pilots must approach each flight with an open mind, the willingness to learn, and the highest standard of safety and performance. Some say that earning a pilot certificate is earning a license to learn. All Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements must be satisfied. As with any FAA regulated aircraft Student, Private, and Commercial pilot certificates are required. Student Pilot Requirements

Every new pilot starts as a student pilot. Your flight instructor can help you obtain a Student Pilot Certificate from the local FAA office or FAA Designated Examiner. If you have already obtained a FAA certificate to pilot any other type of aircraft, a new student certificate is not required. The Student Pilot Certificate allows you to begin your formal training to obtain a Private Pilot Certificate. Private Pilot

To become a private pilot, you must fulfill the following minimum requirements as a student pilot:
  • The minimum age to become a Private Pilot is 16.
  • Read, speak, write and understand English.
  • Have at least 10 hours of training which must include the following:
    • 6 flights with an instructor
    • One solo flight
    • One ascent to 2000 feet above the takeoff point
    • 2 flights of 1 hour each within 60 days prior to rating application
  • Pass the written FAA Knowledge Test (or at a minimum, hold a Private Pilot Certificate for powered aircraft).
  • Pass the Practical Knowledge test (oral and flight) given by a designated FAA Flight Examiner or FAA Inspector.
Commercial Pilot

To become a commercial pilot, you must fulfill the following minimum requirements:
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Read, speak, write and understand English
  • Hold at least a Private Pilot Certificate
  • Have at least 35 hours of training, including 20 hours in balloons, which must include the following:
    • 10 flights in balloons
    • 10 hours of flight training that includes at least 10 flights with an instructor
    • Two flights as pilot in command
    • One ascent to 3000 feet above the takeoff point
    • 2 flights of 1 hour each within 60 days prior to rating application
  • Pass the written FAA Knowledge Test (or at a minimum, hold a Private Pilot Certificate for powered aircraft).
  • Pass the Practical Knowledge Test (oral and flight) given by a designated FAA Flight Examiner or FAA Inspector.

Today I have discovered that Acronis have no idea how to label Incremental Backups properly.... Look at this

Name: Acronis.jpg Views: 42 Size: 55.2 KB

My backup system is set up to make a full backup on a Sunday, then Incremental backups for the rest of the week, then it deletes the full backup the next sunday and starts again.

If you observe the System Reserved_C one Acronis has labelled them:
System Reserved_C(1)
System Reserved_C(1)2
System Reserved_C(1)3
System Reserved_C(1)4
System Reserved_C(1)5

all good so far, and then today, for no reason at all, rather than calling it System Reserved_C(1)6 it has decided to call it System Reserved_C15 instead,

as for the "My Backup" one, don't ask, I can't even make any sense out of the labelling for that I think its making up the names on the spot.

I should add: After sending my LG Xenon though the wash and dry cycle which it didn't hold up well do I know have a new phone and I'm teaching myself all over how to use it.....fun?

Hi severedsolo I just rename the file Acronis assigns during Backup process or even afterwards ensuring the.tib file extension is kept and have not had any issues when restoring

Thanks everyone for the Birthday Wishes.

Greatly appreciated.

Going to be a family get together. No one wanted to cook and I or my sister usually do but not on my B'day. Sister said she is on strike this weekend.
So the rest of them can figure out how and who pays at the restraunt.
I'm leaving my cash and CC at the house.

I still have the keys to the VIP store room with all the party supplies and the VIP bus.

I am at work again, but this weekend, my wife and I had a blast. On Saturday, we set up a booth at a Halloween Festival and we made some money and had lots of fun. This is her facebook site for her business and there are pics of the show for everyone interested to view.

Irvington Halloween Festival | Facebook

(Edit: a fun note about the show, we linked her smartphone to her Macbook and ran credit cards from 3G phone coverage because there were no wifi signals nearby.)

Then on Sunday, we went and hung out with a friend and carved pumpkins. and then gave out candy at our house for trick-or-treaters...

Had no internet after this point, and forgot about it when i got back from the north.

To date it has been going quite good. Took a bit of time to get used to the mask, but no real probs with it now.
I certainly sleep better, though the dogs (2 staffy's) still manage to wake me when THEY think i should be up, lol.

Don't wake up with headaches, so that is definitely a bonus.

Got an appointment with the cpap man tomorrow, just to see if everything is working out. Still need to go for another stay in hospital for 1 night WITH the machine, to compare vs the first stay.

In Aus, these machines are quite expensive, compared to the U.S. cpap $1900 / $2000. Mask around $275, and that are specials i found on the net locally.

Similar experience here with Wife's cpap. And yes they are expensive.

My experience of 20 years ago exemplifies the counter intelligence of the corporate thinking of insurance companies. The cost of her first cpap was $750 USD. I had already paid up my yearly deductible so my 20% = $150; insurance cost $600. After 3 months of deliberation, insurance co decided they would not insure any part of the cost ... except that under Medicare rules they would be willing to pay $100/month for 14 months. Then in January, I was informed I would have to pay my deductible again so my eventual total cost was about $750, but the insurance co also paid $750. If I were Spock, I would raise one eyebrow here and say: "Humans are not logical."

Nice numbers LW7.

Just got back from my appointment with the cpap man.
Prior to getting the machine i had 32 apneas in 1 hour, with the longest one being 75 seconds.

He downloaded the data and was very happy (me too). Only around 2 minor ones per night.

Going back next tuesday afternoon to get wired up again, but not staying in hospital as they are booked out till Christmas or after.
This means "the handbrake" will get a giggle seeing me in a weird state overnight.

Sounds like a frightening condition, Jon.

Joan Archer

Glad to hear the doctors pleased with the results Jon.

Up to now the machine is not something we've looked into yet so not sure how much it would cost or if he'd get it on the NHS, he's already Asthmatic and Diabetic plus had a heart attack.

He's always suffered with his breathing though and most of the time can't breathe through his nose, when young they took his tonsils out but didn't do anything with his Adenoids so I don't know if that has had any effect.

Hope things keep improving for you and maybe your wife wont laugh too much

Jon, the CPAP has really helped Mae Lyne - and me - to get a good night's sleep. She has been using it almost a year now and it has really made a difference in her. It is a Godsend.

Guess it is, Irene, except i'm not aware of it when i'm (supposedly) asleep. Used to wake up with headaches/migraines, but put that down to sleeping in an awkward position. Was wrong on that point, as since using the cpap machine, have not had any headaches.

He's always suffered with his breathing though and most of the time can't breathe through his nose, when young they took his tonsils out but didn't do anything with his Adenoids so I don't know if that has had any effect.

Hope things keep improving for you and maybe your wife wont laugh too much
Joan, i had my tonsils out at a very early age, like around 60yrs ago when i was 3, so i was told. Adenoids i'm not sure of, but according to the minister of finance, war office and kindly referred to as "the handbrake", these all have a bearing on it.

In my case, my tongue slips down, blocking off the airway.
It is an expense we could do without, but if it gives me (us) a better life, it is worth it.
Though i don't know too much about this cpap business as yet, they have a variety of masks that suit a persons needs.
A small one that goes into the nasal passage.
A nasal mask and a full mask, that covers the nose and mouth.
The technology in these machines is hard to comprehend. Mine is an auto pressure one called APAP. Just put on mask, and go to sleep. Too easy, lol.

Sally can do with a good laugh, so i don't mind it being at my expence.

This will be her when i get home wired for sound, i'm sure.

I didn't know much about cpap machines untill recent. Now i have a greater comprehension, and understand your comment VERY well, Carl.

Sally would use your words if asked. "It is a Godsend".
Can't wait to get my own machine as this one is a rental during the initial testing phase.

I have already upset the guy when i asked him how much he charges for his new ones. Bit below rrp, he said.
Explained to him we don't have a money tree in the yard and found a site based in Perth, that sells what i want around $600 below rrp. He said he knew the site as he checks them all regularly. Told him to have a think about it as i cannot afford NOT to go there.

See what happens in the next week.
Best wishes to your good lady, Mae Lyne, Carl.

I have been some more of my ITQ course to-day. I have learnt about how edit paragraphs and insert line breaks, insert clip-art and shapes. I have also start to learn about tables. This is all done in Microsoft Word.

Joan, This site has the cpap machine i'm planning to get. The S9 Autoset with humidifier.

Some info on the left side of the page you may be interested in. (knowledge is power).
Who knows, it may suit your needs, bearing in mind there are lots of different manufacturers with a variety of models to suit.

Thank you, Jon; and I wish the best to you and Sally.

Mae Lyne's machine is a CPAP; her air pressure prescription is 8.0. It also has a humidifier to keep her air passages from drying out. She uses a cloth mask that fits over her nose called the SleepWeaver: SleepWeaver Soft Cloth Nasal CPAP Mask; Light, Quiet & Comfortable CPAP Masks for Sleep Apnea. She also has one that fits over her nose and mouth that she uses if her nose is stopped up.

Tell Sally I understand completely!

Today must be the day my luck turns around. Enough bad luck already, welcome good luck!

Was using a free but ad-heavy VPN service to watch American TV. Whatever site I visited when using this proxy, I won something CNN, I was the 1,000,000 visitor this week. NBC, same thing, the millionth visitor. And ABC, as well, as on some other sites. Incredible luck Really, I got this whenever I opened a new site:

I'm sorry, I don't want to sound rude or use inappropriate language, but today I'm going to learn how to wipe my behind myself, so I don't need to send a text message to Angie asking her to come fast back home every time I have the urge but she's not home at that moment...

An occupational therapist starts today my twice-a-week lessons in coping home alone, everyday survival. Guys, I'm over 50 but I am nervous as a child waiting to start school first time ever. Not first time I've noticed rehabilitation is like going back to school because suddenly everything you have learned throughout your life is forgotten and has to be re-learned. re-programmed to your small still existing brain.

"Adventure" continues, I still don't know how to wipe myself... Therapist is sick, called now and made a rain-check.

BTW, it does not leave me with a positive first impression that she called about 40 lminutes later than she should have been here.

Barman58

Does not give a good impression at all

just hope you weren't just sat there waiting for her to arrive

Dwarf

It just goes to show that even the most basic of tasks, personal hygiene, has to be relearnt after a stroke. People tend to think about the obvious things, such as walking and talking, but there are a whole range of tasks and skills that need to be relearnt, of which those are but two.

However, the brain is remarkably adaptive and given time most of the things (if not all, to some extent) that you were able to do prior to your stroke you will be able to do afterwards. It just takes time to, if you like, reprogram the wiring in the brain to accommodate the enforced changes.

Kari

Well said, Dwarf. For me, it has been interesting to notice that I have had (unknown to me) an ability priority list. I mean, I could care less if my physiotherapist called and canceled our next meeting so I skipped an hour of learning to walk, but I'm always keenly awaiting the speech lessons and vocal therapy, can't wait to be able to communicate normally. It seems speech has a priority over other things I miss.

I had not known this, not realized I find an certain ability to do something more important than another ability.

spinifex

After quite a few month's, tody i got my phone and notebook to communicate via bluetooth.
Finally able to move the pics of my phone to the lappy. WooHoo.
My son gave me this phone without cabling. Can only get one via special order.

Also,

Kari, i understand what you are going through.
My best mate became quadreplegic nearly 30 years ago. Though he has limited movement in his arms, his hands are of no use. Not a good thing.

Sure hope you are on the way back to the old Kari.

Kari,
I have called several home care agencies and told them what my wife needs and the quality of care I am looking for. To date I have found no one I trust, dependable and reliable.
For the last 2 years I have been my wife's therapist, hygienist and caregiver. There are some things I've had to do to my sure she doesn't back up and suffer bowel obstruction, infection or bloating. When someone is bedridden(horizontally) there is no gravity taking the food downward and out the bowel trail. It's not pretty but someone has to do it.
So I know what you are going through and hope you find and get quality help.
Take care my friend and remember little steps will lead to bigger ones.

Onward and upward buddy. I'm not going to trivialize it, as it's beyond my comprehension. Just hoping it all goes as well as possible, and each day finds you with new ability.

I am installing some more of my games to-day. My uncle and his wife, who are from Spain are coming to see us this evening.

Well, enjoy a laugh at my expense.
Felt funny driving home like a cyborg.

We can rebuild him. We have the technology.

Glad to see people getting treatment and care for what ails.

I hope the sleep monitor gives your doc some info for treatment options.

and I hope for you Kari that you learn new abilities quickly so you can live your life to the fullest possible.

Dennis, I hope today goes smoothly. You probably wont have time to get online. She is going to want your full attention.

I am also getting treatment for my stress and will be getting a heart monitor soon to see if it records any murmurs or irregularities. ..... we were all so young once. And I am only 30 and am now feeling old. Good luck to all of you and best wishes.

My dad is on blood thinners, too. The slightest neck or scratch looks like a bloody fight! Yesterday he fell while coming up the steps and was knocked unconscious. I heard him fall. He broke three ribs and his collarbone on the left side. So it is back to the hospital routine for me. He is 90.

That sucks! Even bruised ribs hurt, even in your 30's, much less at 90.

Give your Dad my best wishes for a speedy recovery Carl, it wouldn't have been nice to get those injuries especially at his age.

My husband is on blood thinners, he's alright shaving mostly but does most of the damage to his arms when feeding and cleaning out the guinea pigs, plus one of our cats thinks nothing of giving him a swipe on a regular basis.

You see his arms covered in cuts and bruises and he can never remember how he did it, or even that he has.

Brutal reality:

A son of our neighbor, soon to be 14 years old, visited me today after the school, to thank for this. It was first visit since my last hospital period. We are friends, I have been encouraging and advising him when possible in his IT interests, being sure his future is in this field.

He said he's sorry not to come earlier "but to be honest, I'm a bit nervous to meet old, sick people". I said I'm only a couple of weeks older than when we saw last time. "But I have never realized how old you are. You are even older than dad." (His dad is 37.)

Reality sucks!

Kari

Ouch, mind you it's the same with all kids you're over the hill when you get to 30, some even say 20, depends how old the kid is

It's wonderful to have your humour back with us Kari, even if you are over the hill

CarlTR6

Thanks, Joan. He's a nice kid, mayby the only kid I know who I also consider as a good friend and I respect his honesty. However, it hurts a bit to notice how difficult it is to him to stay and talk with me; every time I say something, with my almost ununderstandable lisp, he cleary feels uncomfortable.

I think this time we were both happy when he went home, we have to start again with small steps.

No matter I sounded "tehnical" however I was asking genuinely. In India, when the tooth gets removed, people generally replace it by a gold or platinum tooth (depending on the financial status).

The Howling Wolves

Here is a brief blurb on Tysabri and why Donna and I were apprehensive about the side effects of this new MS treatment.

TYSABRI increases your chance of getting a rare brain infection that usually causes death or severe disability. This infection is called progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML). PML usually happens in people with weakened immune systems. No one can predict who will get PML. Your chances may be higher if you are also being treated with medicines that weaken your immune system, including other MS treatments. If you use TYSABRI alone to treat your MS, you can still get PML. Your chance of getting PML increases with a longer period of treatment or if you have received medicines that can weaken your immune system prior to starting TYSABRI. However, PML is a rare event. There is no known treatment, prevention, or cure for PML.

So far now present effects from yesterdays't 1st treatment that repeat's in 4 weeks intervals.

pebbly

I wish you and Donna all the best luck in the world THW my heart cries out for you both

Thanks Kathryn for your thoughts but do like I do............
I praise her, I applaud for her, I give her encouragement on whatever little task she can do.
Not once in 2 years, did she say that she didn't want her weekly injections of Avonex I gave her. Not once in the 1 year, did she say I don't want the Solu Medrol IV. Not once in the last 1.5 years did she say no to the daily injections of Copaxone.
So yesterday was the first time she asked me if we should try Tysabri and I was lost for words after reading some of the disclosure of this drug.
I know there are a lot of people, young and old, in this forum that are dealing with a variety of health issues and my comment to all of you is............"Never ever give up!" Have faith and live one day and one moment at a time. Always do and be your best then let the cards fall where they may.

Today I am remembering...
Quote:
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

Another sleepless night, watching old re-runs of Two and a Half Men.

Something on screen bothered me, had a feeling there was something funny. Had to check.

Main character Charlie Harper (Charlie Sheen) is in this episode interested in a children's ballet school teacher. To be able to be close to her, he pays $250 to his nephew, to go to the ballet lessons with small girls.

Anyway, long story short, I was sure I had seen something funny not really understanding it. Went back, found the place. Can you find the thing that catched my eye? The screenshot shows the entrance to this ballet school.

Very amusing!

Here's the actual text of the Wikipedia article. While I was reading it, part of me was fascinated - (having never heard of Josph Pujol before), and the other part of me was saying: WTI (Waaaaaaay too much information!)

"Le Ptomane ( /l??p?t?me?n/, French pronunciation: [l?pet??man]) was the stage name of the French flatulist (professional farter) and entertainer Joseph Pujol (June 1, 18571945). He was famous for his remarkable control of the abdominal muscles, which enabled him to fart at will. His stage name combines the French verb pter, "to fart" with the -mane, "-maniac" suffix, which translates to "fartomaniac". The profession is also referred to as "flatulist", "farteur", or "fartiste".[1]
It is a common misconception to state that Joseph Pujol actually farted as part of his stage performance. Farting implies the release through the anus of intestinal gases. Pujol was "gifted" in the sense that he was able to inhale air into his rectum and then control the release of that air using his sphincter muscles (avoiding any associated odour). Evidence of his ability to control those muscles can be seen in the early accounts of demonstrations of his abilities to fellow soldiers."

Along similar lines, here is a question.

Who was obliged to perform for King Henry II at Christmas Unum saltum et siffletum et unum bumbulum ?

You should be able to find the answer by following the links on the aforementioned Wikipedia article on Le Ptomane.

I am at the library at the moment, because my computer broke down yesterday evening. I have rang PC World and they have got a techinican coming to my place on this Tuesday (16/11/10) and hopefully fix it on site. I am covered by their extended warranty. If he cannot fix it on site, he will take the tower away to their lab and fix it there, which can take up to 2 weeks to fix.

I will give you an update either on 16/11/10 from my PC, if it is fixed of course. Or on 17/11/10 from the library. Either way I will give you an update next week.

So I will not be on the forums until 16/11/10 at the earlist.

Two and a half men used to be basically the only show worth watching at seven PM. When you have basic cable that consists of ~18 channels, there is not much to watch. The top hat that doesn't belong to anyone weirds me out though.

I've been thinking about buying a TV (HD) or a new Video Card (GTX 460) and a few games instead. I was leaning toward the video card for a while but after having the internet and phones at my house go out yesterday and stay down until earlier today (resolution at about 5 PM), I decided to buy the new TV instead. Bought a 50" Samsung Plasma 1080p TV. Very happy with my purchase, only cost me $900. I'm sure I'll be moaning and groaning come Black Friday with all the discounts out there though.

In the meantime, I love my new TV. Amazing to me that I can plug in my USB Hard Drive to the TV and watch videos straight off of it. And what's more, unlike my Xbox 360, the TV can read NTFS formatted hard drives. I love it!

spinifex

Good choice, and you can still play games.
Now to hook the TV up to the computer.

Your other coffee fans out there, how much coffee you need let's say in a week? In our two adult household, we consume about 1 kilo (about 2.2 pounds) a week, dark roasted Italian espresso. Angie drinks 3 cups a day, a cappuccino in the morning and two espressos later, I'll take care of the rest.

We ground the beans ourselves. For reasons unknown to me me we need about 1.1 kilo coffee beans to get that 1 kilo grounded coffee; I can not understand where that 100 grams disappear when grounding...

2-3 cups per day for me, Kari. So I don't go through all that much, I guess.

I don't like going to the dentist either. You go in looking normal and you come out looking like a chipmunk with a mouthful of nuts and slobbering from one or both sides of you mouth.
Glad you are doing better Stalker!

Kari

We waited until lunchtime yesterday for the engineer to turn up. When he didn't turn up Mum and I contacted PC World and found out that their depot had a power cut sometime in Monday night and messed up all of the deliveries and engineers.

Anyway we have sorted out for another engineer to come out to me sometime on this coming Saturday and hopefully fix it whilist he is at our house. I am really hoping that he fixes it on site, because if he has to take it away, it can be up to 2 weeks before getting it back again.

I will either update you over the weekend, or on Monday 22/11/10. At least it is covered by exteneded warrenty.

BTW, I think it is the motherboard, because it is just not starting up. Or it could be the Power Supply. Anyway they do have very good customer service and engineers.

Fun? You say this has only been fun from your side? After I've used my life's savings to pay the shrink? Bombarded the mods with PM's requesting your ban?

Oh shit, I wish I can reach that "private contratcor" in time I just sent after you a couple days ago... This is going to cause my next stroke...

Here in the USA, a health insurance company is certainly a worthy target of insults...so I guess it isn't just here that this is true?

You pay month after month after year after year. Some years you forget to use the "free" month which you get when you not asked a penny in 12 previous months.

And the when you need a bit more, it's a real PITA. Fill this, attach that, are you sure you need those.

I'm at work at the moment. I have just texted a couple of people selling a 2nd hand PC tower in the Friday-ad to see if I can get a cheap back-up tower. At least one can use for internet and watching some DVDs. This will be only used when there is something wrong with my main one.

I might go to the library tomorrow morning, before doing the afternoon at the shop. At least I can walk to the library, so I am not completely without Internet.

Hi nigel thanks for asking , we're all fine ,the rain though heavy wasn't disruptive for us though the river was running high.
our small city has a good infrastructure. when it comes to floods.
its the smaller, poor, old towns that has old rotting systems from Victorian times.

Correct! I am a single guy....if I did have a lady friend here, I could certainly imagine other things to do than watch TV!

Today i took our bitch (no, not the handbrake) to the vets. X-ray confirmed she is pregnant with 3, possibly 4 pups. Both are pure bred brindle Staffordshire bull terriers. She is only about 12 months old, but having 3-4 pups will not be to bad for her.
I fly back to work on tuesday, and pups are due late next week.
Sally is not looking forward to being on her own to deal with it. Would be ok if she wasn't an invalid.
I'm in the process of getting everything ready for the whelping.

We have not so many opportunities to meet face to face nowadays, so luckily he comes back for a few days before ending his work related European tour in a few weeks and returning home to Galveston, Texas.

Received my next piece of coursework for Uni today off the Intranet for my Operating System course. I have to build a fully working file system, either based on the simpler, yet less efficient FAT32, or the more intricate NTFS and optimise a 10MB HDD. I have 4 weeks to do it, so this next month is going to be fun.

With CEO's permission, I just opened the present my dear friend brought yesterday, a bottle of 18 year Laphroiag. First one in a few months. Now sitting in patio, watching beautiful fall sunset, enjoying the best Scotland has produced with a nice Dominican cigar, listening good music from laptop, eying SF.

Life could not be better.

For the record, last time I've been this long without my beloved Single Malt was just before my 18th birthday over 30 years ago...

Come and join me, there's enough whisky for good friends.

I thank you, although that pic has three essential faults, revealing that could never be my glass:
  1. Ice? Who would like to destroy a good Single Malt with ice? The only way I drink my whisky is as it is supposed to be enjoyed, room temperature or even slightly warmer
  2. That glass suits brown corn schnapps (also called Bourbon) or normal blended household whisky's like Ballantine's or Johny Walker. Not good to experience the rich aroma of Single Malt
  3. The color of that liquid reveals it's most definitely Single Malt

Hook up a slow drip IV and enjoy the effects.
I would prefer smelling and tasting the malt over the IV.

Dennis, unfortunately I can't test your idea now. The CEO has appointed herself also as the CMO (Chief Medical Officer), and as such she has forced me to end my civilized enjoyment immediately after noticing almost half of Laphroiag was consumed in less than an hour.

But I can guarantee you, the testing will resume in near future!

Today I spent approx 4 hours cleaning out the Sister-in-Law's Laptop. It had a Trojan. Then I went to work and spent 3 hours configuring a new CAD Workstation (Dell Precision T7500) for one of my users who needs it first thing in the morning. I then came home and spent over an hour shoveling snow from the Driveway, sidewalks, and steps. And now I relaxing checking out my favorite Forum for the rest of the evening.

Today we put fresh oil and gas in our snowblower and fired it up for the first time this fall. (Our driveway is way too big to shovel)

Interesting how this Globe of ours works, I mean geographically and climatically. Check this map out:

Winnipeg, Utsjoki, Leipzig

A is your Winnipeg, B where I'm coming from, Utsjoki in Finnish Lapland, and C Leipzig where I live now.

I can understand winter has already arrived in Utsjoki, night temperatures between -6C and -13C (21F to 8F) and snow enough to give to some tropical countries, as we say back home.

But Winnipeg and Leipzig are approximately at the same level. You had to showel snow today, we had a beautiful fall day with temperatures around 10C (50F)

Earth is interesting!

Sorry about the back noob. Ya just gotta love Snowblowers... I used ours to clean up part of the driveway...the rest I had to do by hand.

Very interesting! Big difference in temps. We had a very descent day today temp wise but it is now 11:18pm Central Time and the temp is now -16c (-16 Celsius = 3.2 Fahrenheit for our US friends) and it is supposed to get colder. The temp is not bad...it's the Wind Chill that is the killer.

If you take a look at that map again you'll see how much more north Utsjoki in Finnish Lapland is, compared to Winnipeg. The Gulf Stream is very powerful phenomen, only thing that can explain this. In Scandinavia we get the benefits of that, it seems it really warms especially our winters.

Here's a couple pics of the recent dump we got over the last few days...Last weekend there was no snow on the ground.

I wish that "Gulf Stream" would hit Winterpeg (what Winnipeg sometimes is called). It would be nice...

I can still remember October 2006. We were in Finland, preparing our holiday cottage there for winter. A beautiful fall, almost more like the end of summer, as this pic showing me coming from sauna shows:

Then, only a few days later:

And then it really began, so fast it was incredible to see:

All pics within a week, same place. Two last pictures within 6 hours.

its the same for us here in Cornwall (gulf stream)
we rarely see snow in fact i think we have only had about ten days snow in as many years, well maybe fourteen days
i so miss the snow as i grew up in Scotland and recall playing in the snow and sledging etc.
heres hoping that we'll see some again this year, no need for snow blowers here although because we have such sparse showing of snow when it does snow cornwall comes to a standstill. the schools close also , i think it is more to do with letting the kids enjoy the snow as it could be years until they see it again.we did have some last year and the year before it was four years before that and a further six years before that, we have palm trees and banana trees down here in Cornwall

I'll be having a couple of days in Saariselk next month, hopefully it will be at least like the last picture.

Kari

What are you doing in Finland, if I may ask? And yes, it's already almost like that there now.

z3r010

Taking my little girl to see Santa and play with reindeer's and huskies

Kari

Your little one would certainly love a personal letter from Santa? Take a look at this: http://www.santagreeting.net/?a_aid=77c2c6f0

That place, Santa's real home, is near the town of Rovaniemi, capital of region Lapland, 130 kilometers south from Saariselk.

z3r010

Oh, I might get her one of those.

Kari

I recommend, it's a marvelous Christmas present to all kids. I order every year for almost all kids I know. Those letters really look fantastic, with special stamps etc.

BTW, I want to give you some brownie points for using in word Saariselk

z3r010

Copy & paste

Kari

Saari = island, selk = back (as in "My back hurts"), also something like "out there".

At around this time of year The Ginger Folk gather to celebrate the birth of Boohbah.
Their ullulating cries can be heard long into the night.
Some say he is ancient and that he came into the world fully formed.
All we know for sure is that, like many of The Ginger Folk, he has devoted decades to growing a beard, for the benefit of all mankind.
We must praise him and give him cake!

boohbah

Wow thats some cake john ,makes me want to cut my ear off, .....and lo the purple followers of Boohbah zone munched into the night ,working themselves into a sugared frenzy of coffee and pie debauchery. and brandished their Boohbahs at unsuspecting locals
