Benchmark Results good? Bad ? Or Indifferent ? part 1

steve-pressman

Just ran a bench mark on my card and was wondering if any experts can tell me if the results are ok.

Steve

fishnbanjo

Steve,
I'm not too sure why you chose 1274x966 res, 1024x768 is a standard res and most games will run full screen using it, other than that the score is commensurate with an ATi HD5770 a very capable GPU.

steve-pressman

Oh I didn't know it wast'n it full screen

I have redone it again any difference ?

Steve

fishnbanjo

Heck yes!

Mellon Head

I was going to say let's trade but then...

Name: WEI004.jpg Views: 10 Size: 152.5 KB

I think I'm doing okay.

Nice card though, Steve.

archie123

set res to 1680x1050 8AA and 16AF run it full screen and post results , i can then compare them to results i have give you an idea of how fast your rig ias compared to mine

at those settings you have there your gpu isnt doing any work at all , its like your telling it to walk down hill ...... stress it out a bit

steve-pressman

Hi Archie it wont let me run at full screen at these 1680x1050 I have no idea why

Steve

archie123

i see why mate , your max monitor res is 1280x1024 , you absolutely need a new monitor for that rig , you should be gaming at 1920x1200 AT LEAST with that

that rig is wasted on that screen mate get a better monitor (im assuming as you bought a prebuilt overclocked rig from overclockers your not short of a few bob)

that card and that cpu will easily stand a 24" monitor get a decent one and you'll wondewr how the hell you managed for so long gaming at such a low res

here you go

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...id=510&subcat=

EDIT..................im getting that card confused with the card i used to have the 5870 , maybe im being a little ambitious with the res , stick to 22" 1680x1050

Steve
i edited my post mate take a look at the benchies , i got your card confused with the 5870 , still a nice build though

my kombuster

Wishmaster

Intersting benchmark.
Guess my 4890 is hanging in there

Done 1 at the default 1280x1024 res and a second at 1920x1080P.

Not too bad I think .. just wish it had DX11

Hi steve-pressman.
I'm wondering why you're using the ATI drivers so outdated. Did you had any problems with the newer versions?! If not, I suggest that you update them, since it is quite likely that you'll get better results with more accurate drivers!
They can be found here: http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-c...ndows-7-a.html

steve-pressman

I am kind of old school and a believer of "If it ain't broken don't fix it" However I will make a fresh system image in a few minutes and then download the new drivers and see what difference I get. Thanks for the info

Steve
Your point of view makes some sense! Nice that you considered relevant to what I said... you're welcome, buddy!

fishnbanjo

steve,
Try it with 10.3 and then 10.6 but skip both 10.4 and 10.5 they were a bit buggy, my laptop is very happy with 10.3 and my desktop 10.6.

steve-pressman

Could only find the 10.7 I will try them anyways I can always go back to my old image if they are buggy.

Steve

Solarstarshines

can someone post me the link to that program he is using or attach it for me so i can test my card i have the same one interested in how it benches on oc mode

I been using trail versions of pc vantage benchmark ect not really giving me the performance info i really want

thanks in advance if someone happens to have a kind heart and send

Solarstarshines

yeah you are kinda doing your 5770 a injustice by not allowing it to give true power on the screen belive me after building this rig i seen a hell of a big difference especially when i was using my 7300gt on a 22" now using the hd 5770 im like man where in the hell have i been all this time

belive me you will be wowed after a new fresh hdmi flatscreeen

steve-pressman

Here you go

Thank you for the fraternal words! Always a pleasure, my friend!

steve-pressman

Well I uninstalled the drivers and installed the 10.7 but had nothing but problems with them SO I went to the Asus site and downloaded there latest drivers and everything seems back to normal now and here are my test results.

Steve

It's a shame that you have found nothing but trouble ... I always keep my drivers updated and the only time I had problems was with version 2.49 of the Realtek HD Audio, with which I could not activate the Dolby Home Theater. It seems that what prevailed was your maximum - "If it ain't broken don't fix it" -
, my friend!

Wishmaster

Try here Steve:
SAPPHIRE- HOME

This is Sapphires site for ATI cards, usually where I grab my drivers.

I do not believe being a different brand should matter, as its all the same ATI CCC, But, they always keep older CCC's as well as the new ones.

Back as far as 9.11 ATM.

steve-pressman

OUCH tried the drivers from Asus and ended up getting BSOD every couple of minutes SO that sucked! I am glad I made an image of my system thats was running perfectly, restored it back to the image and now all is running sooooooooooooooo sweet again now.

Like I said earlier "If it ain't broken don't fix it" It doesn't really matter as I am not a gamer so I don't need to squeeze anything more out of my Graphic's Card.

The HD 5770 works fine on 23 inch monitor, games at 1920x1080.

not according to benchmarks ive seen , not over 25fps anyway but hes not a gamer so its not a problem

My Kombuster

steve-pressman

Ok you have me concerned now I have just redone the test again using other software here are the results I will try with 3Dmark Vantage as soon as it has finished downloading and post results.

Steve

archie123

those scores are ok mate i think , look at wishmasters scores , his card though older is quite a bit faster than yours , looking into benchmarks i think your card is performing ok , its no powerhouse but more than enough

i was mainly concerned with yuor furmark score it does seem very low

it might be worth getting 3d mark vantage or 3d mark 06 and running it at its default settings , you can compare your score to others with similar rigs on the 3d mark site

look at my komster score , last post previous page just so you can see how much variation you can get between cards , it doesnt mean yours is faulty

For me is fine, I have HD 5770 1GB and i run BC2, crysis and SC2 on 1920x1080 on very high-max. settings (no AA)

archie123

nah , not crysis on high , not at that res.....im not avin that it'll be a sub 20fps slideshow and as for BC2 you must be looking at 25-30 fps especially on Africa Harbour

If this was referring to my post then I don't think i ran crysis with AF. I never got 25-30 fps in BC2.

Steve
Wow Steve. Your card runs hot. It's almost 20C hotter than mine when I ran my test at your resolution to compare.

As for your results, it takes my two cards running in Crossfire to equal yours. I'm so jealous.

cloud8521

well since ONE GUY asked for it i will post it , tho i will use the same as everyone else to show how bad it is

Mellon Head

I think you should download a more recent version of Kombustor from the MSI website. Mine is a build from June and it sees my cards properly, the earlier versions gave lousy results similar to yours. It just didn't work right. IIRC, a 3850 shouldn't perform that badly.

smarteyeball

Latest:

MSI AB 1.6.1

cloud8521

ok new test says you are right, will post 4 test results

also the newer test seems that the MSI itself seems to have less graphically intense fur to it

Mellon Head

That's a bit more like it.

Faladu

I hate you all after seeing my score, no further comment.

But seriously, good to see a huge improvement over mine with newer CPUs.

Faladu

..or am I doing something wrong?

...or is 10.7 that much better?

I am still using 10.4, due to post 10.4 bug that makes one program unuseable otherwise.

I did run the test for 2 mins instead of one:

Is that for any mobo/video card testing?

It thinks my 7 HP is Server? and can't tell what my clocks are... ouch...

Mellon Head

You're using a pretty old version of Kombustor. See Smarteyeball's link at the top of this page for the newest version. It runs a lot better, and it can see your clocks, and detect Windows properly..
