Nicely done.
Put a bigger eagle with the flag colored into its wings and it would be awesome.

Wonderful, Nick !!!

The second one .... with the aurora in sky and Stonehenge in ground ... who will say that it is made from the default xp bliss wallpaper, the most widely used wallpaper worldwide ?

Love your works, respect your skill and expertise

PooMan UK

Thanks guys

JaidynM

Not sure if I can request here but a new wall would be great at the moment. I tend to change it around a lot as I get bored of even the best wallpapers, pretty easily.

Anyway, I'm currently using a wonderful wallpaper made by Nick that is to a black and white theme. In the end, I would just like it to match my dock icons (which are black and white). It would also be good if it had Windows 7 somewhere on it. I don't mind if it's just the logo, or 7 or Windows 7 Ultimate or something similar.

I've attached my current desktop if you want to see it.

Take your time, mate . I like this one, but it does not fit perfectly on my screen . Either I am to stretch it, or it cuts some parts out of the screen

Lol .... it's a clever manipulation ... using a downloaded image and the eraser tool

Look at the psd ... Black OPs.psd

(fonts .... call of duty=Impact and black ops=bank gothic)

And a toxic version, too !

A little bit left, so that it will not be covered by rainmeter bar, if you have ....
-1.jpg

Or centered ?

Unfortunately, tinypic doesn't load for me .... antivirus or something blocks it

JaidynM

Thanks Archie, the centered one's great.

Now I see the trick in this thread

Arc

Ok it is going to be a long post .... I am showing the steps I have taken to make that wallpaper .
First, make a background like this one, using paint bucket tool and soft brush .
-1.jpg
Now put a layer on it, fill it with black, render lens flare 50-300mm zoom , change the color to blue (ctrl+u) Duplicate the lauer, hide the duplicate, and apply Gaussian blur 30.8 .
-2.jpg
Now make the text ... Charlie Brown M54 font . Black text, apply7 the duplicate lens flare layer an it , and ste the layer to screen . Put some little inner glow ... make the 3d effect (alt+down arrow) and apply shadow.
-3.jpg
Now water. This image of the seagull .... remove the seagull bu content aware filling .
-4.jpg
N ow a brush is needed . It is rotated ... applied, color is changed, opacity is reduced, and unnecessary parts are removed by soft eraser .
-5.jpg-6.jpg
Taken a windows logo (self made, too) applied distort to make it look like floating ... removed the edges by soft eraser . Set the layer to opacity, and duplicate it .
-7.jpg-8.jpg
The colors of the logo looks creepy . So fill it with appropriate colors . Make color layers like it ....
-9.jpg
Finally, Select the logo (ctrl+mouse click) select the Color logo and select inverse (right click, it is in the context menu) , hit delete . The unneeded parts will be deleted. set the layer to color. Do it for all the four squares .
-10.jpg

Additionally, if it is needed, some extra shadows may be applied . And it is the trick of this thread .

I think that looks great....if you could make that in 3040x900 I'd be proud to add it to my rotation!
(yes, it's an odd size..primary monitor is 1600x900, secondary is 1440x900)

Here you are Randy, it seems to bright and colorful to me, but maybe you can use it.

Here's a screencap...

You are welcome Randy. I didn't know you could get a screen cap of multiple monitors like that. Looks good.

When you have multiple monitors, the default screen cap is both. A Guy

I just did the old shift-printscreen, and that's what I got......then I pasted it and saved it into Irfanview. Much easier than trying to do a snip with two screens!
Here's a camera shot of them.....(unsightly messy desk and all)

Britton30

Nice Randy. I've never used more than one monitor at a time. I was gonna ask if you could take a pic of the setup, thanks!

noobvious

They're kind of in a V-shape, just so they fit. I had to put down a piece of floor tile on top of my desk to widen it so I could use them.

I lucked out in two ways with this setup. First of all, when my uncle built the system, he set it up with 2 DVI ports, no VGA.....and second, I got the primary monitor, a 20" widescreen, from my boss for $45....he'd only used it a couple of times, and now uses his big TV as a monitor.

I didn't know at first what I would do with two, but I've figured it out along the way....my music programs automatically boot up on the secondary monitor, for example. If I am doing file transfers, my progress window and Explorer windows will be on the 2nd screen.

I can even watch video on one screen and browse through my various forums on the other.

Britton30

So the cursor just travels willy-nilly between the screens?

noobvious

Quote Quote: Originally Posted by Britton30 View Post

Yes....primary screen is on the left, and you can go from left to right and back to the left with the mouse pointer as if it was indeed all one screen.

JaidynM

I've always thought about using two monitors but never got around to it. Is it useful or just looks better?

noobvious

Quote Quote: Originally Posted by JaidynM View Post

It can certainly be useful, yes....depending on how much multi-tasking you do.

As much as I love Aero Peek, I haven't needed it nearly as much since I got the second monitor, because I can actually see at least some of my other stuff on the other full screen.

Our admin, Windows 7 Forums - View Profile: z3r010 , has taken this to the next level and beyond...click below.

Hmmmmmm, is there such a thing as a transparent layer so I could drop the emblem on top of an existing wallpaper? (I don't mean an installed wallpaper but using a program like Photofiltre to add the "decal" on top.) Would be cool if I could stick it in a "black area" of a fractal flame so it doesn't obscure the flame.

beman36

if I understand U correctly, u wanna put an image on a wallpaper? which u can do by playing with the layers by "inserting or overlayering" the layer.... also normally U can make a PNG image transparent by removing the background around the image hope this helps U

Hmm, thing is there's also black in the middle of the image(W7 circular logo thingy you did) so that messes up using black as transparent color. Since it's black on black maybe I'll forgo that and just paste it on top. I'm lazy I guess.

edit: btw it's just for using on my own desktop. Not trying to rip off your work.

edit2: came out ok. Here's a reduced shot of desktop

Thank you. But I'm using it now. I used Photofiltre to reduce the size of the W7 logo ball, then copied and pasted into the fractal swirl I did. It looks pretty good. The colors you used match nicely with the swirl colors. Since both images have plenty of black area the fact it's pasted is hardly detectable.

MilesAhead

btw if anyone wants my fractal flame without the orb, it's at the bottom of this page:

I hate to tell ya but I can see the black square around the orb you "pasted" on your wallpaper in your screen shot, what I suggest you do is get paint.net which is free and learn how to use that, then you can just add layers onto your wall and sorta "merge" your image into the wallpaper of your choice...just a freindly suggestion

MilesAhead

I like it.

edit: I've done layers in the past. But Paint.Net has to be the easiest I've tried. A couple of clicks.

edit2: If you give the ok I'll put this up for download with credit in a readme in the zip for the orb work. If not just say so and I'll delete the image here.

edit3: been messing with StartOrbz and your W7 orb makes an excellent start orb.

Here's my desktop with the start orb:

-scrshot.jpg

as long as you like it, thats what counts bud...but that square around the logo would drive me nuts! LOL

Here's one a bit better. Used a larger logo and did a circular crop before pasting.
Goes well with the small logo as start orb.

-smokyswirlslarge7.jpg

beman36

ok but what I am trying to show you is that cutting and pasting is not working, I can still see the "cutting" job and it isn't merging in with your wallpaper....I am not making your wallpapers to show off or say I'm better than you, what I am trying to do is show you the "proper" way of photo editing...I have learned from Arc and poohman and take thier advice and tricks and try to use them and utalize them! as example I made a slightly diff variation of your wall...see how it all flows together? yiou cannot see that I have copy and pasted the win logo but rather use layering and other tricks to make it all flow together

edit: I would suggest you download and learn to use paint.net or gimp! they are freeeeee and very powerful tools! also goto youtube and check out some tutorial vids, it can teach you about layers and merging and blending images and whole bunch of stuff!

The Howling Wolves

My 2 cents before I retire....
-bemanwall.png

MilesAhead

Maybe you can tell me how to get a circular crop in Paint.Net? In Photofiltre I can put in the numbers so it comes out exact. But if I save to a file then it has a white area for the remainder of the rectangle.

Paint.Net I cannot figure how to get ellipse selection to go where I want.

when U choose the circuler crop tool hold down the shift key while cropping, it will stay circular as apposed to ovale when not pressing anything... also dont just paste it after copying make another layer and then past it onto the layer and then merge the layer together and it would take me forever to explain all the stuff and tools you can do with paint.net that's why I suggest to watch soem vids on youtube

Heh heh. As you can tell, I'm not artistically inclined. I mainly dabble in the graphics to take a break from programming. Now and then I accidentally get something good enough for a wallpaper.

Britton30

Miles the shift key will do wonders for you with many tools. It'll make the rectangle select square and when you have an image selected will keep it proportional whiles dragging a corner.
With paint.NET open, click Help/Plugins, download and install plug-in packs from Pyrochild, Boltbait, and Madjik. will add more funtions for you.
PM me if you have a question.

You can save the animation as a movie file, and apply it via dreamscene activator

That would require one heck of an upgrade.....I think I would need a second video card, and that would probably mean I'd need a bigger PSU, then a bigger desk.....altogether too much $$$

Nope, I used the attachment tool in the WYSIWYG post editor. Gets me with the big pics.
Some of Beman's walls are downsized too.

I use that same WSYIWYG setup.
So now for a test....the first image, I captured with the snip tool, and then did save as capture.jpeg. The second, I did shift+printscreen, and then in Irfanview I did ctrl-v to paste the image, then did save as Clipboard01. Loaded them both here with the attachment tool. Of course, the one I captured with the snip tool, although slightly downsized, is a much bigger file and higher-res image when you blow it up....very interesting! OK, back to bed for this sleepyhead.

Britton30

Interesting. My first is snip saved as a png, second is shift prntscrn, opened in paint.net and saved as png.
Both got downsized, oh well.

You'll need to change the color of your desktop beman. Then that color will bleed through your transparent(?) background.
right click the desktop/Personalization/window color/Advanced appearance settings, you'll see the adjustment.

One of my favourite wallpapers use to be this one, which has the max resolution of 1600x1050 so I thought I'd remake it. Here is the result.
