Hi,
Im unsure if this is the right section but looking around it seems the most appropriate, so im sorry if this is in the wrong section.
I have 2 problems with my current desktop screen.
1) There are 2 lines at the top left of my screen (around the My Computer icon in the top left) that are void so to speak. I am unable to click on any spot that the lines cover. If i have an icon or a program, any button covering those lines i am unable to click on it.
e.g When using firefox i can't click the back button or forward button at the centre of them. (this is where the lines go through). I have to click on the edge of the button or move the firefox window.
2) At the bottom left of my screen is a spot that when i click (left click), right-click options appear.
The same options that appear if you were to right-click on the top of a window (restore, move, size, minimize, maximize, close).
If i click close, the problem persists. If i click on the spot again the options appear. however if i click restore the problem goes away.
Thanks for any help that anyone can provide and thanks for taking your time to read the above.

My first reaction would be to download and run the free version of MalwareBytes. Make sure to update it, then do a quick scan. What ever it is, it's not your video card causing it. Please write back to let me know if MalwareBytes finds anything. Even if you already have an anti-virus, it might find something yours missed.
It might simply be that you monitor is not correct adjusted, most monitors come with an auto adjust button, it might simply be a case of pushing that and let the monitor set it self to the correct setting for your screen.

At the moment, im running the malware scan and my avast anti-virus scan.
As for the monitor. Im currently on a laptop so im unsure what to do about the screen.

@ steve-pressman, thanks anyways for trying.
@ petey7, I did a scan with Malwarebyte and it didn't find any problems with my system.
Ill run the scan with avast and see if anything pops up then.

Screenshot below.
Problem 1
There are 2 discreet lines that go vertically down that cover two spots on the My Computer Icon (this icon is in the top left space for me). They are about the same size as the icon. If i hover my mouse at those 2 areas no action can be done. Left click nor right click works.
I tried my best to show it on a screenshot. In the picture you will see two red lines over the my computer icon. That's where the problem occurs.
Problem 2
As you can see the right-click options appear at a spot at the bottom right.

Just to be sure we're clear on this, are the lines in the first pic drawn in or are they actually appearing on the desktop. Also, what is Gary's Mod?
The lines are drawn on to show where the problem occurs.
As a breif, garrys mod is a modifcation of the half life 2 game engine. It basically allows you to use every prop from half-life 2 and make items like forts or cars etc. What ever you can imagine you can most likly make on it :P. It is a very good game to have.

Hi Aran Taylor,
Would you please Download DDS from one of these links:
Mirror 1 Mirror 2 Mirror 3
The scan will instruct you to post Attach.txt as an attachment.
No need for that though ..... just post it's contents as you would any other log.

- Disable any script blocking protection
- Double click the dds icon to run the tool.
- When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
- DDS.txt
- Attach.txt <---this will be minimized in the task tray
- Save both reports to your desktop.
The scan will instruct you to post Attach.txt as an attachment.

Is this your computer? Do you have kids who sometimes use it?
I have a brother that occasionally goes on it.
Why do you ask ?
Why do you ask ?
I ask because I want to know if this is your computer or your Parent's computer.
Oh its my computer.
Did you install easybits for kids?
Easybits as in the magic desktop ?
Magic desktop was pre-installed on the machine when i recieved it.
Magic desktop was pre-installed on the machine when i recieved it.
Where did you receive it from, if you don't mind me asking? Is this your computer, as in you own it, or do your parents own it?
I bought the laptop off ebuyer.com
And yes i own it.
And yes i own it.
Usually Magic Desktop/Easybits is installed by (what I consider to be) over-protective parents. It just seemed weird that it would be on an adult-with-no-kids' PC. This wouldn't be the first time a young person went online to try find out how to get around parent controls without admitting it.
Type msconfig into the start menu and open it. See what programs you have set to run at start-up. Do you see anything related to Ask.com/Ask toolbar?

Ask.com or toolbar isn't there but there is however,
Easybits Recovery ?
Do you want the list of programs that appear on startup ?
As for the parent thing. It was just a pre-installed app from hp as well as all the other stuff like hp assisstant etc.

Look in Programs and Features for the Ask Toolbar. It looks like it was installed along with Open Office. It's mostly junk software, and I think getting rid of it would be best.
I checked my programs and i couldn't find it.
I untick all the options to the toolbars and things like google chrome.
Update -> Just checked and problem 1 has actually gone. The two lines in which i can't click on have disappeared. Not sure what the change was but problem 2 still persists.

In the report you posted, it was listed, so it is odd that you wouldn't be able to find it anywhere. Maybe we should wait to see what Jacee says, as she knows a lot more than I do about, well, pretty much everything.
if you installed magic desktop you must know the password for it , to disable it , its most likely that thats blocking you from acessing system sensitive files throguh my computer etc.
are you sure your trying to "hack" your dads pc

Im confused as to what everyone is getting at ?
I bought the laptop and magic desktop was pre-installed. This is kinda of a long plan by showing 2 problems to overcome a password or w.e.

I found the ask toolbar in the programs. It went under the name of gretech.
I just uninstalled it now.
I also uninstalled easybits magic desktop.

Are both problems gone now?
I think i need to do a restart for certain files of magic desktop to disappear.
Do this for me please ... download HJT from here HijackThis - Trend Micro USA
Right click and run as Administrator. Click on run system scan and save logfile. The log file will appear on notepad. Copy and paste the log back here.

Sorry for all the confusion Aran. Just wanted to make sure you weren't some 12 year old trying to do something inappropriate that required disabling parental controls. Follow Jacee's advice. She knows what she is doing.
The link is broken. Please try again.
Rescan with HJT, check these items:

Sorry for the late reply been away.
I also did the Hijack list you told me to do.
Problem 2 still occurs.
With problem 1, it is on and off constantly. Sometimes it's there, sometimes it goes away.

Thinking back on your problems, are you sure its not the mouse acting up at random times?
It's not the mouse
I tried another mouse to check and it still happens.
