What kind of firewall are you using?, only windows own, or something more?

Are you using any Logitech Mouse/device, if so remove the software driver and install the latest version from the manufacturer's website

I think this is very likely to be solvable by updating all of your system drivers

Windows debugger shows a variety of Bugchecks as the cause over the five .dmp files provided but it blames the Ntkernel which doesnt give us a specific clue , I do notice you need to update all of your drivers , for instance your chipset driver is from early 2009
Code:
AtiPcie.sys fffff880`0191d000	fffff880`01925000	0x00008000	0x4a005486	05/05/2009 15:00:22
and most of the drivers in the .dmp's are from 13/07/2009 ?

also your driver wdcsam.sys which is a driver for your external western digital storage device is very old
Code:
wdcsam.sys fffff880`06ff5000	fffff880`06ff8880	0x00003880	0x4805bb2c	16/04/2008 08:39:08
please go to your motherboard manufacturers website and update all drivers and also find the manufacturers site for your other hardware devices and get the latest drivers ?

If you need any specific help please post back and please let us know how it goes

squallheart

Thank you for all your responses. In regards to the logitech keyboard i did download the drivers yesterday from their site and updated. Today i went to the motherboard website and checked all the drivers and everything is updated as far as i know the only one not being the BIOS. I freak out when doing bios updates though this motherboard does come with a utility to make it smoother. On the western digital external harddrive i have an account with them but dont know where to get them. Ill try a search again. It still seems to crash on me. I am checking all the drivers as we speak. Quick edit no firewall or virus protection installed only malware bytes purchased edition

squallheart

Heres a little update. I updated what ever drivers I could that I could find. From western digital I only downloaded the drive manager I did not find any update to the one mention wdcsam and in regards to the ati I ran the catalyst program and it went through the motions finished and said process completed succesfully but something about errors during it which is odd. Any other recommendations that you have. Thank You again.

EDIT: As I was typing this the system crashed again and gave me this.

keep uploading your.dmp files for analysis

squallheart

will do. Do you think i should run another system health? I typed msconfig.exe i think thats what it is to see the start up drivers running. I took off one called express gate and then uninstalled from pc. After that did a driver scan found some updates and installed those. Today is the first boot for the pc after i did all those steps. Seeing if it crashes so far hasnt crashed on start up but it usually does 30 min into it. If it crashes i will re upload dump files. BTW I love your signature lol I still dont know how you guys can read all those xx00989 maybe i should have gone to school for that o.o

QUICK EDIT:

I hate it wheen im right 5 mmin after this post the system crashed. The odd thing i got the blue screen and my pc made the sound like it turned off yet everything was still on o.o hmm oh well here is the new bsod dump fiiles in rar format.

ok at a quick glance as Im on my way out the door, I would say you need to update this driver wdcsam.sys for your Western Digital External Drive RAID Manager, go here and selct your device > WD Support > Downloads > Select Product
Code:
wdcsam64.sys fffff880`07228000	fffff880`0722b880	0x00003880	0x4805bb2c	16/04/2008 08:39:08
and
Code:
		  AtiPcie.sys fffff880`01862000	fffff880`0186a000	0x00008000	0x4a005486	05/05/2009 15:00:22
which is your video driver and Im confident there is a newer version available from ATI

N.B. what is your make and model of power supply please ?

let us know how that goes

squallheart

Thank you for your reply. I went to the WD website but honestly im dumbfounded. I cant seem to find the drivers for it i have the product registered but these are the options i get

WD Anywhere Backup Premium (upgrade version)
Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows
External USB/FireWire Fat32 Formatting Utility
WD My Book/Passport Studio FireWire driver (SAM)
WD Logo Icon
My Book Home Firmware Update - Mac
My Book Home Firmware Update - PC
WD Drive Manager (PC)
WD Drive Manager (Mac)
WD Macintosh +TURBO Drivers
My Book Home Edition Software (All)
WD Anywhere Backup Software (Windows)
WD Anywhere Backup Software (Mac)
and thats about it. The only thing ive downloaded from there is WD drive manager. Unless i download Back up software and a newere driver is in there. Though i doubt it.

As far as the ATI driver I find this odd since the Video card installed is an NVIDIA Geforce gts 250. I dont get why ATI shows up in my system I doubt this motherboard has onboard graphics o.o The mother board is an ASUS M4A87TD EVO AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard unless i didnt pay attention and this motherboard doesnt supportnvidia.

Anymore help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

have you tried the my book home firmware update ?

how long has this custom build been running successfully and did it ever have an ATI card ?

It could be a driver installed as part of the chipset package as the board is "ATi CrossFireX Ready" so make sure you have all the latst drivers from the ASUS website ?

have you had any more crashes, if so please upload the .dmp files, and do they ever happen with the external drive disconnected ?

squallheart

Hello again thanks for the replys.

I have yet to try the firmware update because I have read some people have had it brick their drives where they are paper weights after the update.

The pc was running succesfully for 3 days. Like i mentioned all parts are brand new except I kept my full tower case from before. I originally bought it off of ibuypower 5 years ago and decided its time to upgrade. The only thing not upgraded is internal harddrive. So brand new partion or reformat with installation of windows 7 from windows xp. Its odd since if i would have used xp i doubt id be running into these many blue screen since everything is windows 7 compatible.

I have never had an ATI card I have only used Geforce or nvidia last card i had before the gts was and old 6200. From what i can tell this motherboard is fairly new so the drivers off the cd are the same off the webiste except their is a bios update thats recent about 2 weeks ago. oh and the power supply is an corsair Tx650w. Pretty much i have a dvdrom, burner, main harddrive, external hardrive, and another internal harddrive that I dont use because im out of parallel connections so im going to upgrade my dvd drives to sata soon.

Apart from the basic crashes that crash the system after 30 min after boot there was a new one today where it didnt make it past the windows boot screen and this is the dump file it gave me.

ickymay

can you force a bluescreen with the external drive disconnected ?

also try removing all but one sticks of ram and see if you can force a bluescreen crash ?

the latest .dmp file appears to be corrupted, which can often happen during the crash, but it does suggest your sound driver viahduaa.sys was responsible ?

over the seven .dmp's you have provided the main ntkernel is crashing for a variety of reasons ranging from MEMORY_MANAGEMENT 0x1a to PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA 0x50 to SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION 0x3b ..................

at this point Ram timings or voltages power supply or a hardware device could well be the cause so please try the first two suggestions and when i get more time I will look over the files in griffs logs

squallheart

Argh i was just writing a response when it crashed trying to install adobe acrobat @_@

Anyway I was reading my manual and i cant seem to find the memory module that i bought or came with the package under the supported memory list. I even went to their website and downloaded the latest QVL and still cant find it on the list. What is odd is the motherboard has a mem ok feature where you hold it down it reboots and scans the memory. After that it saves settings to the bios. So far everything is detected ok.

In regards to the western digital external hd whats interesting about that is on xp when i had it the software it came with would always freeze to the point i had to end the process. After that the hd would still run though i wonder if on windows 7 its the same thing but it crashes the system? might be a thought.

Im pretty sure i plugged in all the cables properly as i followed the layout from old mother board. The only part i was iffy was on the usb controller connections and the system panel connector but i figured black always means ground no matter the electronic equipment so i went with that.

Heres the bsod dump

Thanks again for your help. I will go ahead and do the ram process. So you want me to pull all the ram out and boot it with just one? to see if it crashes o.o I actually just ordered a SSD not saying it might help it but I need faster boot times and im planning on also buying a new tower. The strangest thing i turned it on today and wouldnt let me log in kept bsod'ing i turned off external HD and it booted the pc made two beeping sounds. Sorry for the late responses. Theres beend alot of thunderstorms here ins sunny california so power up and down.

yes run it with one stick of ram and see how it behaves ?

i think i just found a breakthrough . I installed my ssd and reconnected everything . Well after i booted my pc i forgot i had my usb drive with memtest86 on it so with i hit enter to run win 7 installation cd mem ran instead. Whats odd is last time ran it it found nothing but this time. its found 305920 errors. Iths passed 2 tests and is currently on the 8th test as i write this. So am i to assume memory is defective. I haven't installed win 7 on ssd since its been 5 hours and tests still running.

I recommend burn to CD (using an ISO burner) & run from boot memtest86+ for at least 5 passes, please move the sticks singly and together between slots to verify motherboard ram slots work as well as the ram sticks and let us know how it goes

squallheart

ok heres an update. (Note im typing this again because as i was typing it crashed) I installed win 7 on my new SSD. It boots really fast and runs great. I ran memtest 86 though through usb i dont know does running it through cd make a difference? ANyway ran the test and everything it found no errors i even moved the memory sticks to the second dimm slots. The crash i got about 5 min ago at least this time i could clearly see it said memory management. Again note its installed cleanly no drivers or software installed other than the barebones. Only drivers installed are off the cd the motherboard it came with.

Heres something interesting as well i went into bios and change some settings. This time i disabled fast boot so it can show me the status of the devices booting up. Now yesterday it went normal but today after a cold boot it said Ram R/W test failed press F1 to continue. Now putting that with memery management im guessing it might be ram issues. What would you suggest the next step would be? Return the memory or do a bios update just in case. Im am really lost because system is freshly installed. Am at the point of thinking of going back to win xp lol.

this could be your problem as the drivers supplied on the cd with the motherboard are almost certainly going to be old

update all your drivers to latest version from manufacturers website, check motherboard BIOS version , disconnect your external drive then ;-

run your system with only one stick and monitor for crashes

squallheart

Roger will do. Note the drivers off the cd are the latest except sound driver has a newer version. The installation cd checks for new versions. in regards to bios there is a new version thats 4 months newer should i update bio? I'll run the system with one stick alternating after cold boot.

ickymay

which version bios do you currently have ?

lets try eliminate or identify Ram as the problem before changing any more variables

upload any new .dmp files as they happen ?

squallheart

Hello Ickymay,

Today after waking up i removed one of the memory sticks and booted my pc wich just one installed. Its been running for about an hour and a half and has yet to crash or give me that evil blue screen. Please note usually crashes in about 15 to 30 min of booting up so far its a good sign.

I checked the bios version and from what i can tell under the regedit it says DATE 8/24/2010 Ver8.00.15 So from what i take it i checked the bios update list at asus site and copied from where i believe to be the right version and up the list.

ok no crashes is a good sign and if it's still working well then we are on the right track , now this next bit is critical ?

I looked up your motherboard from your system specs on this forum and you state you have the

ASUS M4A87TD EVO ATX AMD Motherboard
but the motherboard you have looked up is the
Quote:
M4A785TD-M EVO

now although similar these are different motherboard versions and might have totally different BIOS files etc ?

to look up your bios and board version please download and run blackbox 64 bit and under the system tab is the motherboard and BIOS version ?

to look up your model numbers BIOS history on the ASUS website click the link Download product BIOS, Drivers , User Manuals and Utilities here. then select product motherboard then search then scroll down the list to "SocketAM2/AM2+/AM3" and click your exact model > select your Operating System and click search then expand the BIOS history button , we are looking for any reference to a fix for system and or ram compatibility ?

let us know how it goes ?

ok looks good so no more crashes so far ?

suggest run prime95 to stress your system and monitor for crashes ...... then if still no bluescreens swop the good stick you have in currently into the other slot to check to see if its a motherboard error and stress test that ...........

patience with this testing will bring us a more definitive conclusion

regarding your Ram this Attachment 128023 is the QVL and Gskill DDR1333 is listed with a specific module number running timings of 9-9-9-24 but only as a (3x2GB) combo ?

the only ram to combine (4x2Gb) for 8GB total is the corsair ?

can you please download and run the 64 bit version of black box and post a screenshot of the memory tab ?
also the processor tab to check the series for restrictions of the AMD chip (which holds the memory controller)

squallheart

Will do. I will stress test tomorrow after work. I did notice like u mention my memory is not listed but ive read users mentioning they are running memory thats not on that list fine. But ill test tomorrow and post the pics.

squallheart

ok its saturday evening and i left the test running overnight. It has passed all the testing so far I think that should be enough. So after i post this i will move the memory stick to another dimm slot and run the test. Do you want me to test the other memory stick i have in a static bag?

Here is as well the pics you asked me to take in blackbox. i guess ilil put the results for stress test.

Here is as well the pics you asked me to take in blackbox. i guess ilil put the results for stress test.
yes I would personally check the other slot and then repeat the process with your other stick then you will definitively know if it's a bad stick or slot , or if it is simply the combination of two Gskill F3-1066CL9-4GBRL sticks that is tipping the timings out of tolerance and crashing your system ?

Will do ickymay. Currently the the test stress is running on memory slot b_2 with the memory stick from the fist test. Left it overnight and its at 80% so far. I will test slots A_1 and B_1 with the memory stick i have yet to test that is in my static free bag. Do I just test the slots for Stage 1 in prime 95? I dont know if im supposed to go pass stage 1 or if it passes it everything is ok. This stress test takes a while lol.

stage 1 should be enough

Thank you starting stage 1 on dimm 1 dimm b_2 was a success.

Its still testing. I selected stress test instead of primenet. Heres something odd, I turned off the pc and put the memory stick i had yet to test into Dimm_1 slot. Booted up the pc and it crashed o.o I got a blue screen so it restarted fine. I go to run the stress test and the first time i tried to launch it failed. So i tried it again and it started running the self tests. What i noticed different from this test and the other two i did with the other memero stick is when im opening the browser or hell moving the mouse it seems to be freezing sort of lagging. With the other test I could do other things with out any slowdown which is rather odd. It seems its struggling a little bit. So far on the self test it says everything is passing though.

this could well be a bad stick or slot, memory tests don't always highlight bad ram when a stressed system will

squallheart

Hmm should i let the stress test continue, like i said so far is passed the tests but i did get a blue screen on start up. Unless you want me fiinissh the testt then onn the same slot i got the crash use the the memory stick i got good results with in the previous two tests. BTW is the stress test the same as primenet? lol cause im not sure if the stress test tells you its done seems rather long and i dont see a % complete anywhere @_@

ickymay

what you need to do is be able to is consistently force a bluescreen with a specific ram stick/slot combination then we can decide the best way to fix it

don't be scared of the bluescreens as they are windows way of protecting itself and its integrity and you are ideally working towards solving the problem, which now almost certainly looks like a bad stick or slot ?

The stress test is exactly what it says it doesn't really have an end it simply runs the computer at 100% to stress the components and you need to use it until you can faithfully reproduce the crash ?

It is beginning to look like RMA the ram might be the simplest solution (although it might be just one bad stick), but It would be nice to be 100% sure you don't have a motherboard fault first ?

squallheart

Thank you for all your input. So far with the latest stress test on Dimm_3 it has passed. The only crash i got was with dimm 1 with memery stick. Also not im prety sure if i run the stress test with both ram sticks in, it will crash havent testted it but i notice everytime they are both in they do. Im pretty sure its not slots since it has passed all tests. So what wouuldd your next suggestion be?

can you make it crash by using the same stick in dimm 1 ?

you need to determine if it's the stick or the motherboard ?

where did you buy your components ?

Hello Icky,

Well I was reading your post on my psp and decided to boot up my pc to see if I could force a blue screen and guess what I did. I turned on the pc and couldnt even get to the log on screen and kept crashing. The last stress test i ran was on Slot B_1 with the memory stick that had crashed my pc on slot A_1 but the previous time it would actually after the reboot work fine but not this time. So it wouldnt boot up so i took the memery stick i have had good success with and put it in the same slot as B_1 or replace the other memory stick. PC booted up fine. no crash so far as im writing this. I included the BSOD text.

sounds like bad stick to me needs to RMA ?

I would however get a conversation going with your supplier and ask if they think this combo of two will work when they provide you with a good pair ?

squallheart

I got this combo from newegg.com when they had a sale. I know I can RMA it though cant find the packaging it came with it so hope thats not an issue. I know they had a disclaimer of something along the lines off NOTE: Combo products might not be compatable with each other check documentation for compatability. I have read that a lot of people got it to work though. Weird that one stick works flawlessly.

well no i wouldn't say weird , the relationship between the ram the motherboard and the CPU are in your case negotiated by the onboard memory controller on the AMD chip, and this is responsible amongst other things for the timings along with the northbridge chipset ?

the ram you have installed is outside of the spec that is covered by the motherboard manufacturers testing so it's not guaranteed to be compatible ?

I am confident that you have one of two causes for your crashes here ?
  1. you have one bad stick of ram which needs replacing ?
  2. installing two sticks of the Gskill F3-1066CL9-4GBRL is changing your timings out of tolerance and creating unrecoverable errors ?

the two possible solutions I suggest are :-
  1. RMA both sticks and replace with something else compatible of the QVA list such as the Corsair CMX8GX3M4A1333C9 (4x2GB) combo ?
  2. RMA the bad stick of Ram and hope that will work in combo ?

This assumes the motherboard and CPU are working properly ?
Have you checked your CPU to make sure none of the pins are bent ?

When you compare to "other peoples systems that are working ok" I doubt they have the same motherboard CPU and Ram combination as you ?

let us know how it goes

squallheart

Thank you for your reply. I just sent newegg a message. I dont have the original packaging as someone came into my room and started tossing stuff away. I always keep the boxes. So hopefully they agree. If they dont ill just order the corsair and see what happens.

Hello Ickymay, Sorry for late response i rma'd the memory sticks took a while to get here. After a month of testing everything is working fine No blue screen.

I just bought another SSD but its not showing up. It does under device manager and bios but not on the my computer page which is odd trying to figure out why. Also im trying to find out if my SSD is recognized as an SSD any tips? Thanks for all your help.

ickymay

great news that new ram seems to have solved your blue-screen problem

my personal experience with SSD drives so far suggests that if I can see it in BIOS but cant see it in windows then it's firmware and or drivers, but if It's showing in disk management but not in my computer it is likely to be in an unrecognizable format ?

have you tried from disk management formatting and assigning a drive letter ?

squallheart

Yeah i didnt exp this issue with the vertex 2 though i did install win 7 and had to format it. With this agility it shows up in device manager and bios but in my computer so i cant right click it and format it. I even went through control panel to find the format tool and it doesnt show it. Maybe i do have to format it? Is there a simple tool for that seeing i cant do it through operating system?

ickymay

i use the vertex 2 and I did have some problems until I updated the firmware check the OCZ website ?

to check your firmware version look at numbers after the drive in BIOS boot screen or in device manager right click properties of the drive then select details/hardware id's ?

If you still need to format outside of windows try the open source linux live-cd called parted magic

squallheart

Yeah i tried their tool to download the latest firmware update which when downloaded it sends it to the agility 2 drive but I cant access that drive since its invisible lol So the firmware update is there with no means of me being able to run it. I guess ill try the linux cd XD
