Sorry, your card does not meet the minimum system requirements for either Vista or Windows 7.
Best advice is to upgrade to better card. You can get an AGP DX 9, or better even 10, card real cheap all the way up to what I run, in specs.

You could try installing the XP driver through the device manager, though.

vista have a driver for my card when i used that os..is there any way that i can get that and use in windows 7?
buying is not an option for me because i just want to run windows 7 on my old computer with basic video functionality
NVIDIA has never made a driver for your card and Vista. On the download page, XP is the newest OS supported. The XP driver may work, like I said though.

You're welcome.
I'm not really sure how to disable hardware acceleration on Win 7 graphics, but you can try to set a basic theme instead an Aero one.
Right click the desktop and choose personalize. Then scroll down to the basic and high contrast themes section and try one of those.
Maybe running like that will alleviate the bsod, but I am doubting it.

i recently found out how to edit hardware acceleration settings thru:
Change display settings>Advanced settings>Troubleshoot tab>Change settings..then move the slider to the chosen preference
I have a Geforce4 mx 440 working on Windows 7, using the forceware 71.90 drivers, no problems with it, so maybe the drivers will work on your card, without having to turn down acceleration

The driver you mentioned is older..does it really work without turning acceleration down?..i really want to make sure before i install it..and qould you be so kind to give me the download link?
Thanks
Link for 32 bit ForceWare 71.90 Win2000|XP WHQL download from Guru3D.com
The driver, despite being older, works and without having to turn down acceleration. Same thing (BSOD) happened to me with the 93.71 driver. I see the link posted there now, if you've tried it, does it work?

try driver 81.xx
I've not yet tried later drivers, but im working my way up the list, the 71.90 drivers are my best so far, im trying some of the 81.xx series drivers tonight, and I'll update you then.
I have tried the 81.98 drivers with success, however, before you double click the EXE, you have to set compatability mode to "Windows xp (service pack 3)". I've tried all the drivers available on the 9x.xx series, but they all cause a BSOD, i'll try one between 81.98 and 9x.xx soon.

I've tried 85.96 Beta drivers, and got a BSOD. Im sticking with 81.98 whql drivers, seem to be the best found so far.

btw is this the download link for the driver you tested? -->>http://downloads.guru3d.com/Forcewar...|XP_d1282.html
or do you have other download links?
Just thought I'd give this thread a slight bump. I installed the ForceWare 71.90 driver for my GForce MX 440 on my 7100 build, and it went off without a hitch. Whohoo, got my 1680x1050 resolution back!
I don't do games on this machine, but I do quite a bit of image processing and it's nice to have my monitor's best resolution mode back.
Thanks, guys!
Best,
Michael

Hey guys I just had the same problem for some time! I just installed forceware 72.14 and it works flawlessly for my gf 4mx (pci) on build win7 7600.
Must say that the latest, 93.71 by the site of nvidia, DOESN'T WORK for me!

I have an Geforce 4 Mx 440 PCI and it works smoothly w/ 72.14 nvidia driver w/ Win XP SP2 compatibility on setup.
lol... My 8 years old card still worth a while.

Thank you so much! My Geforce4 Ti 4600 finally worked using this driver. Full widescreen with 32 bit color and smooth video!
I've been searching the right driver for more than 3 days until I came to this thread, really appreciate everyone's input!
Im sticking with 81.98 whql drivers, seem to be the best found so far.
My card is GeForce MX 440. Installed in Win XP SP3 compatibility mode on 7 Home Premium x86.
Screen resolution top number increased. Desktop activities seems like became faster, also scrolling pages in web browser seems like takes less resources.
Hardware acceleration is active: judge by working with SketchUP 7.
UPDATE:
Too bad, new info. Harware acceleration in Sketchup from time to time produces huge lags, and even sometimes W7 fells into BSoD, caused by NVidiA driver.
When Hardware Acceleration is turned OFF, no such problems.
Will try 70.xx driver or revert back to XP.
Has anyone been able to get MX 440 work on 64-bit W7? I have the PCI version, if that matters.
I've tried several drivers now and I just can't get it installed. Some of the installation setups even say the driver's been installed and the system has to be rebooted, but once in Windows again, device manager says there is no driver installed.
I use my primary display with the motherboards Radeon and would use this GeForce just to get the s-video out.

XP is the latest driver for the MX 440.
Highly recommended to update for Windows 7. If you're using any other later card, that's a 2nd reason why it will not work.

Thanks to all. My old GEforce MX440 V64 is running on Win7 using Forceware 81.98 WHQL 32 bit. Had to install with compatibility mode XP SP2.
Thanks again!
